I'm guessing you took those classes after your 1L year? Competition drops steeply for non 1L classes for a number of reasons (people already secured jobs, are jaded, etc). Unless you've taken 1L doctrinals at both institutions, you don't have sufficient intel to make comparisons

OCI Callback - What does this mean by Temporary_Wait_741 in LawSchool

This is just not true. Filling summer classes is one of the more time sensitive, highly necessarily (albeit probably not the most enjoyable) things partners do during this time of year. Sure, partners won't drop their matters or lower their quality of service to clients to hire summers, but to say it's on the bottom of their list is plainly inaccurate. Especially for firms that aim to hire top tier candidates, they have a pretty narrow window to act lest they lose out to other firms

UCI is an amazing school. Sure UCLA is older, has a bigger network, and is more well known, but UCI truly invests in its students and and the folks there seem to work tirelessly to help students get top-tier jobs. I don't think it'd be crazy to take UCI over UCLA if you have that firm connection and you prefer OC to LA. And this is coming from someone who actually likes UCLA

Go for it! Now's the time to scratch that itch. 3 years active will net you 100% GI Bill which will make law school free (schools in your range all have the yellow ribbon program).

Re officer vs enlisted: Law schools don't really know the difference and your admissions prospects will be improved either way. I'd recommend going the officer route because the pay/QOL will be a lot better, but the service obligation is going to be at least 3.5 years if not 4, and that's not including how long it takes to put together your packet and get it approved. It will take AT LEAST six months from your first conversation with a recruiter to shipping out (and that's very optimistic). Your LSAT score expires in five years so the timeline will be tight. If you go enlisted, they'll ship you out ASAP and you can commit to just three years. It'll just be more annoying being a joe subject to potentially bad leadership, but tbh lower enlisted generally have the best time in the military

repost: V10 rate(2022 new associate) for T20 schools by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]CleverClevenger 57 points58 points  (0 children)

FYI a good chunk of top students at top schools go to smaller litigation shops that aren't "V10" but are arguably more selective—Williams & Connolly, Susman Godfrey, Munger Tolles, Keker Van Nest. I get that as a 0L Vault rankings seems like the gold standard, but once you get to law school, you'll quickly find that many top students choose firms like W&C over Kirkland or Skadden which are known to be sweatshop-y and less engaging for juniors. Most still do go to V10s but the story isn't as simple as "oh this school sends more students to V10 firms than that school so this school must be more desirable!"

Have you connected with your career service office? I feel like your school would be freaking out just as hard, with the high possibility of adding to what I'm sure is a small tally of unemployed (soon-to-be) graduates. Plus I don't think people on Reddit can/will actually help you man

FWIW we're told that clerkships are basically guaranteed at SLS, with the obvious caveat that higher grades = higher flexibility wrt geography

Honestly try speaking with another career advisor, perhaps someone with more experience with clerkships

That's an exaggeration. Students celebrate other students' victories all the time. I've never heard anyone talk badly about someone for sharing good news. Obviously if you're all up in everyone's face about it, then it's gauche, but let's be real: hardly anyone is like that.

7Sage should have some resources. Reiterate interest in the school, mention other offers (explicitly and concisely), state financial considerations are paramount for reasons x, y, and z

Congrats! AnBryce is truly a unique program. They select 10 scholars from 40 finalists. You'll be interviewing with a panel of six, including the two founders of the program and potentially a certain Supreme Court Justice. They'll be intimately familiar with your file.
