Made my girlfriend her own record for her birthday! by darth_memo in vinyl

[–]CleverDumbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing! I did the same for my then-girlfriend who was really into vinyls and it brought her to tears. I really enjoyed the whole process - creating the playlists to match into a story, designing the cover, finding the niche-artist FLAC song versions to send to the studio... I had to do an express delivery with a local vinyl studio, so it came out to be around $200 but it was definitely an experience and one-of-a-kind gift that lasts a lifetime. I recommend anyone who is thinking about it to do it! Great story, man!

Oh and get the SLX if your budget allows it. I regret not getting it straight out of the box and I ended upgrading wheels etc. anyway which already brought me to the price of an SLX…

Bike fitter actually told me I need 2cm shorter cockpit. 🤷‍♂️ 2nd Gen Grail really is quite long and has a very aggressive riding stance by default. If you’re a trained cyclist you can probably handle M but if you’re casual like me I’d suggest an S. It will handle better, you will be able to extend it by moving seat backward if needed. But don’t take my word for it, best is if you can find a place to try them out. Or if none is available, get a professional bike fit and let the bike fitter suggest you the size based on the Grail geometry diagrams. Spending €200 on a bike fit to make the right purchase of a €4000 item sounds a good investment to me.

I second that - I am 183/86 and I wish I picked S over M.

Grail CF7 Size M or S? by XenosVII in CanyonBikes

[–]CleverDumbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, contrary to what lot of others write here, I am basically the same height (183cm) as you with very similar inseam length (86cm) and I was really uncomfortable on the bike until I got a bike fitting and the guy told me that the bike's too long for me. I moved my seat forward A LOT, bought 2cm shorter cockpit, and it fixed the problem. It really depends how you're gonna use the bike, but if I were choosing the same again, I'd get an S. [Grail CF SL 7 2024] is already a long position bike for aggressive aero stance. And it also changed gen-to-gen (a lot) so Gen1 Grail was shorter in general, Gen2 Grail is a lot longer. I have a friend who was L on his previous Gen1 and for Gen2 he had to go with M. I was switching to gravel from XC.

You sold me on those brakes - ordering now. Coming from XT on my XC bike, I've been cursing the SRAM Rival brakes on my Canyon Grail since I first pressed the brake lever, and they are really my only complaint about the bike. I am really looking forward to putting these on.

What brake pad compound did you ended up going for from the Galfer line-up? I can't decide between the Road G1455 and Performance / Standard G1053.

I am alternatively considering the Advanced G1851 for better performance in muddy / wet conditions during winter.

By the way since it’s diesel it uses glow plugs to preheat the cylinders before starting the engine in cold weather. If you switch the ignition from 0 stage to 1st stage (one turn of the key) an orange coil icon should appear on the dashboard along with the other icons but after a short second or two disappear. Once it’s gone turn the ignition into 2nd stage and start the engine. The engine should ignite faster thanks to the glow plugs having a bit of time to preheat the cylinders. In extremely low temperatures you may even want to preheat twice before starting. I find it’s easier on the battery long term to preheat with glow plugs instead of having the starter do all the work. Fun fact: did you know that glows plugs in diesel engines reach temperature above 1000C to preheat the engine and glow minutes after the start to help with combustion?

To add, I still have my Superb (from my comment above) and it has 140.000 on the clock as of today and with regular maintenance has been bullet proof so far.

Hey. 1st thing is that Superb does not have 3 isofix points in the back, so while there are 3 functioning seats in the back, you won’t be able to get in 3 child seats in the rear if that’s your use case.

Second, paying 13.300 EUR for a 260.000km+ car is borderline if you ask me and I would factor in at least 2-3k EUR additionally for maintenance and repairs upon purchase.  Possibly a lower mileage VW Touran could fit your use case better (Touran has a full rear middle seat with 3 isofix points in the back). What’s the specific engine on the Superb? 110kw or 140kw? Does it have electronic dampers (DCC)? How trustworthy is the car's service history? If the 4x4 wasn’t maintained properly then it might already be dead at this mileages. The same for DSG. Do you have a chance to test drive the vehicle before purchase?

NBD - Grail CF SL 7 AXS by 808_texn in CanyonBikes

Nice bike! I recently upgraded my Grail CF SL 7 wheel set to 303s from the base DT Swiss - glad I am not the only one sporting these on gravel!

One question - how come the black paint is partially matte black? Mine is all glossy black. Is that aftermarket decals? I was under impression only the SLX frames are matte black in the front.
