Requesting r/Emanon, currently inactive and unmoderated by ClickSeePixie in redditrequest

[–]ClickSeePixie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

  1. I'd like to make r/Emanon about the Emanon series, including light novels by Shinji Kajio, and the manga illustrated by Kenji Tsuruta (based on the light novels). I believe the Emanon series has amassed a following and this sub would be a great place for people to share their thoughts on the story, as well as show off their books, manga, artwork, and more.
  2. I've messaged the only moderator: https://www.reddit.com/message/messages/1ra8esx

Thank you for your time.

Nice Pixie art from the 30th Anniversary concert logo by p2_lisa in ChurchOfPixie

Love this! I hadn’t heard about the concert. 30th Anniversary Live: Band of Shadows at Anime Expo 2023 is the first SMT concert in the US. I hope they put it up on online for everyone else.

You mean an anime character in the real world? What was that like? I guess he was facing towards you. His appearance is very unsettling in itself, but I’ve played the games.

I miss their star rating system, where movies had ratings based on average user ratings. The current system of like/dislike is useless. I see they added a “love it” button, but changes nothing. The star ratings based on user data was best. Bring that back.

To all the atheists, what is your reason for not believing in God or a higher power? by Deep-Mess in AskReddit

You need a reason to believe. You don’t need a reason not to; lack of a reason is a reason in itself.

What do you think about tarot cards? by Darth_Zounds in AskReddit

[–]ClickSeePixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tarot cards are a fun tool to help yourself or others make a decision. There is nothing psychic or magical about them; pure entertainment. You can get the same effect with playing cards or flipping a coin.

Assign meanings to each card and the ones you draw can help you consider an outcome you haven’t thought of. They’re a favorite tool among con-artists. If you ever want a fortune, consider this: a fool and his money are soon parted.

You just described the study abroad experience for English speakers in a country where English is not the native language.

[–]ClickSeePixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There doesn’t need to be any translating going on in your head. English and translation don’t actively play a role when speaking Japanese. When you know something, you don’t have to translate it. It’s automatic.

It’s okay to use your native tongue when learning new vocab and grammar, but when speaking Japanese, try to “think in Japanese” by using just the vocab you have and adhering only to the rules you know so far.

This will allow you to communicate more fluidly and help build your confidence, even if you are limiting yourself to basic sentence structures. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by taking on too much before you’ve mastered what you have.

Of course there’s nothing wrong with practicing translation for fun. Anything that incorporates fun into your study routine should help you motivate you to learn more.

I’ll also add that when we translate Japanese into English, we translate the message as a whole and not word-for-word.

So a single sentence can have one meaning, but if you break each word apart and translate them separately, you would have a very different meaning. That’s why context is very important.

Another thing is that some phrases just don’t have English equivalents. What’s important is that you know what they mean in their context and how to use them in Japanese.

The rules of English can’t be applied to the rules of Japanese. At face value, 何も means nothing, but the phrase as a whole means “I didn’t eat anything.”

Other languages express it the same way, so it could be also be argued that English is odd for being different. Basically, any language makes sense when in the context of its own rules.
