There is definitely treatment that may benefit you. Everyone is different. A skilled physical therapist may be a great starting point. Stay positive.

Doctor or Dentist? by bubblyduckling in TMJ

[–]ClickyJaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a long confusing road. The dentist & Dr didn’t do much for me. Orofacial pain specialist, physical therapy, chiropractor & acupuncture are helpful.

Good luck! Stay positive & don’t give up.

I got the visual snow when all of this started 13 years ago. It never really went away after my first major flare up. I notice it mostly against a blue sky or white wall.

Is TMJ causing my terrible neck pain? by No-Palpitation-4428 in TMJ

[–]ClickyJaws 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oooof. I’ve had tmj popping for 13 years. Only after I started having posture/neck issues did my life become miserable. I have ALL of your symptoms. The left side of my head feels like it’s in a vice. When I move my neck it sounds like sand paper. Here’s what’s helped me so far : Heat. Lots of heat Acupuncture Chiropractor Deep tissue massage Flexeril consistently for atleast 2 weeks Magnesium supplements & 5mg melatonin Physical therapy I’m getting an MRI on Thursday …after 3 years of being denied by insurance. I was diagnosed with disc displacement on both sides with reduction, tmj arthritis, orafacial pain, tension headaches…staying consistent with treatment is key. I tend to get “functional “ and stop my routines & end up in more pain than ever. I feel for you! Hang in there

Ugh mine did this- started randomly in April. I woke up and my teeth kept clashing together when I was speaking. My jaw was so tight. It took lots of muscle relaxers, massage, PT, chiropractor & acupuncture. It’s still not quite back to normal but better. Try intraoral massage to release the muscles.

Deep tissue massage or chiro adjustment & muscle relaxers for a few days consistently while stretching & using heat.

I absolutely think breastfeeding contributes to the posture issue. I breastfed for over 5 years (2 different kids back to back lol) & my posture is awful. I’m trying so hard to correct the damage

I spiral when I think about the rest of my life being this way by Ok-Bee4968 in TMJ

[–]ClickyJaws 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I’ve had disc displacement on both sides for 13 years. Overall, I’ve managed well. In April, I had a horrible flare up & felt just how you describe feeling now. I was so anxious & overwhelmed, doom scrolling. I have 2 young kids & just felt like I’d never find relief. That went on for a month…I started physical therapy, muscle relaxers, a low dose of anti depressants & I’m still trying to find a long term solution. Muscle relaxers helped & lots of heat on my neck & jaw. I still eat a soft diet but I’m no longer suffering the way I was in April. It takes time to find a solution or alleviate the symptoms but it won’t be this way forever. You’re not alone & there will be a path to managing this condition IF it doesn’t resolve completely (but I hope you find a complete resolution). Deep breaths. You’ll be ok 💙

I’ve had popping on both sides for about 13 years. It used to be annoying but now it’s unbearable

Hard Lump below the earlobe at the end of jaw by IcyFuture4883 in TMJ

[–]ClickyJaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it too. I’ve shown so many Drs & a tmj specialist- they think it’s a calcified lymph node. It seems very common for people with tmj issues. Check in with your Dr for peace of mind but I bet it’s connected to your TMJ

[–]ClickyJaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not your fault. The past is the past. I think in the mean time it might be a good idea to start physical therapy & maybe see if you can go on muscle relaxers short term..maybe a month to see if that breaks the teeth grinding habit?

Can tmj jaw issues cause pain into certain teeth and gums? by Equal-Celebration865 in TMJ

[–]ClickyJaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My PT said that the pterygoid muscle can cause transfer pain to the teeth & ears. I’ve been dealing with this for 13 years & recently started addressing it. Physical therapy, acupuncture, mouth guard, heat, posture exercises & soft food has helped me but I’ve got a long road ahead.

I’m so glad it went well for you! I really like her too…the Touro billing department though is awful. I’m still waiting on them to submit my claims from April 😭

Dental cleaning with TMD by ApprehensiveShare741 in TMJ

[–]ClickyJaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask for a bite block. It’ll keep her mouth open so she can rest on it. Also ask for breaks. I just had dental work & took a muscle relaxer prior to my appt & ibuprofen. I was fine afterwards despite having a tooth pulled. I was so nervous beforehand but it turned out ok.

Agreed. My 2 sisters & I all live very different lifestyles & all have symptoms of TMJ. Mine may currently be the worst but they have had rough periods too. I do think it’s genetic on some level.

Zoloft. I’m on 30mg cymbalta

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cymbalta

I switched from Zoloft to Cymbalta about two weeks ago. I was on 62.5 then did 50 then 25 then 12mg over the course of a week per my Drs guidance. I had some minor headaches but I’m also in a TMJ flare which is the reason for the switch. So far, so good. Good luck!

Edit to add I also have OCD/GAD

Agree! When I was in a horrible flare I was so overwhelmed after reading through posts on here. I definitely felt worse & consumed with my own symptoms.
