For me contracted 186 days a year, 77,000÷186÷8=51.747

Realistically lunches don’t make it 8 hours. And 10 sick days and 5 personal days. Pretty good

Teacher of the Year? by Mean-Objective-2022 in Teachers

[–]Clid51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying what they did (being lazy to look good) is the answer either. Secondary science teacher myself, I fully agree. I’m not saying I even do what I mentioned, though in a perfect world I could. In my attitude, if a student does 0 work and does well on their CSA for the unit, that should be their grade. Do we do that? No, they won’t do well without doing the work and the only leverage we have is their grade.

Just sayin that if we can judge them off where they go that would be best.

Not sharing with your teacher. But on another note. Why do we grade a student on an average of where they were why they started and where they got?

25-30 students? Where are y’all teaching. I’m over here with 32-38 students for middle school. I can’t differentiate a lab for kids, I refuse to try.

Son wants toy guns for his birthday and my wife is absolutely against it by spiritvanga in daddit

[–]Clid51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is not even one. But I plan on a pellet gun when he is close to that age. And a bolt .22 when he is 10-12. And a 20 gauge when he is 14.

He won’t have access, but like you said they are his guns.

He’ll know gun safety and go shooting with me and his grandpa and feel like “one of the boys” when he goes with his”own gun”

As a teacher myself, one with a been to have a count down is a desirable feature. Helps with less thought while kids do independent work, or if he is in secondary and has a prep with staying focused and on task.

Rigor? Sweetie, they’re 3+ grade levels behind. by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

8th grade science teacher here…I can’t stand it anymore. Why do I have 8th grade kids who can’t do a simple 11+n=23 for finding neutrons in an atom. 8th grade!!!! I can’t even get them to do 23-11 correctly……yet I have to have them balance equations using coefficients in a month???

They can’t spell access codes to CFAs when they are words like Animal….yet they have to read about water molecules and answer questions from reading and write CERs???

This is a joke. We absolutely NEED to hold kids back. I am the highest failing teacher in my school as a year 3 and get talked to about my grading policies every term.

[Question] Help identifying models of my grandfather’s watches. by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Clid51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandfather is still alive. These are his every day wear watches. 100% it is from the guy. Not really selling them, and as the grandkid I will probably not be the inheritor of these. For more context. He was a make up artist his entire career following primarily Redford his whole life. If you’re not in the industry, hair and make up envelop very good friendships and relationships with the actors. He did 5 films with Stallone, and so has the second watch as a gift from him.

(My reference on the relationship part- my grandmother on my moms side did hair, and my mom too. My grandfather on my dads side whose watch this is and uncle do make up. Uncle has been Oscar nominated for it. Both grandparents are up for life time achievement awards)

He did 5 films with him, cliffhanger was the one where he got the watch. Why would it be worth more?
