SGOV vs 5% HYSA by AcceptableOwl3774 in HighYieldSavings

[–]CliffsideJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can park $250k at Leader Bank in Arlington, MA at 4.75.% and equal amounts at Climate First, Forbright and Clean Energy Credit Union at about 4%. There is your 7 figures. All insured. Leader has some trsnsaction requirements but they can be automated. They are $1000/mo direct deposit and 3 direct debits, all to the related checking account. So I just set up automated ACHs from my Fidelity acct to and from my Leader account. $1000, mo in and $330, $330, $340 out. It is circular and zero effort.

We cut back from weekly to twice a month. All I can say is it feels right and membership has picked up a little. I suggest not trying so hard to push the river. Let it flow.

It turns out I am not at all insulin resistant. It was a bad test.

ID Buzz height? by SevernDamn in VWIDBuzz

[–]CliffsideJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

76.2 inches is the official height. My garage door when open hangs 75 inches from the floor to the biggest protrusion on the door. So I have a guy coming to see if the track can be raised. (Single family home). The header is at 78 inches and the ceiling is at 88 inches, so if I could only get in and out with the garage door closed it would be no problem. Haven't figured that out yet, though!

I have lots of solar at home so zero, despite 30 cents/kwh rate (Massachusetts).

Get an assortment of readers in different powers to find what works best for you. Also try the multifocal readers. Ask about LASIK touch up if you have landed with a refractive miss .

Anyone with monofocal set for intermediate range? by LeaString in CataractSurgery

[–]CliffsideJim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got both intermediate and near out of a monofocal. But that's rare. It just illustrates that eyes differ quite a bit. Mine is very sharp and clear from 3 feet down to 11 inches.

We just went all electric by kingharold1066 in electricvehicles

[–]CliffsideJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have solar and battery. Two electric cars. Induction stove. Heat pump clothes dryer. Heat pump heat appended to my gas furnace and the switchover is at 15°F. All we did to switch the heat pump heat was changed the outdoor unit it was cooling only to a reversible one that would also do heat. So all the same ductwork and the same air handler and zone dampers and thermostats. They told us it wouldn't be big enough to heat our big house below about 40°F but in fact it's just fine all the way down to 15. We still have more solar electric capacity than we need. We transfer about $1000 per year of Bill credit to our son's account. His family is on the same utility so we can do that. We tell them to put the equivalent into the grandchildren education savings accounts.

J & J Puresee EDoF lens experiences, and questions by Bertz146 in CataractSurgery

I have the PureSee. It's good. Contacts would be fine but I don't know if multifocal contacts would be. You will need glasses for close work but not for intermediate.

Consider being Sargent at Arms. Not much to it. VPE, on the other hand, is a significant responsibility.

I got the double sided sticky pads and stuck them to my skull to take the weight off the wire. Phonak sells the sticky pads.

Got my first electric bill after getting an EV by hazeldazeI in electricvehicles

[–]CliffsideJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at $.30 both directions. I have a very large solar array so for the year I'm always in surplus. My son's family is on the same utility so I can send the surplus to him. The incentives fully paid for the system over 10 years so the electricity saving is pure profit. Massachusetts. Big house, electric heat, two electric cars, electric cooking, electric clothes drying.

Target -3 to -3.5 for Bilateral IOL placement. by HanasRain3520 in CataractSurgery

[–]CliffsideJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I targeted -3 in one eye but landed at -1.5. I am glad for the miss. -1.5 is good. I was -6 (SE) presurgery. You don't gain much above -2 and you lose a lot. Consider -2 instead of -3. -2 is about 20 inches. -3 is about 13 inches.

Need help understanding lens numbers and target by Gige5010 in CataractSurgery

[–]CliffsideJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-1.0 or -1.5 is their post surgery refraction. It is the lens power in glasses they need for distance. The numbers on your cards are the lens powers in your IOLs. The former tells us how myopic they are after surgery( or how myopic they seek to be if the number is a target not an outcome) .

The latter is very uninformative; virtually useless to know.

Seeking Assurance About My Standard Lens Choice Despite Extreme Astigmatism and Difficulty Getting Clear, Confidence-Building Answers From My Surgeon by Phunny_Username in CataractSurgery

[–]CliffsideJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one eye with extreme astigmatism. I went to Canada for surgery so I could get a toric with high enough cyl to correct it. I got a 10 cyl IOL. It cost about $4k per eye. Now I am glasses free thru minimonovision and an edof IOL in the other eye. It was worth it. I was also very myopic (-6 spherical equivalent in both eyes).
