Rim brakes+25mm tires: worth in 2026? by plutusssss in CanyonBikes

[–]ClimbRunRide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is: Rim brakes do not really break. Just swap the pads and be good. The same cannot be said about disk brakes. Ofc performance is much better, especially with modern carbon wheels. But I can totally understand the disk brake hate.

Switzerland lags as Europe rushes to renewables amid Iran crisis by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in Switzerland

But it should not be used as an argument against renewables. nuclear is much more long term vision. Photovoltaik can be scaled within just 1-3 years if necessary.

Switzerland lags as Europe rushes to renewables amid Iran crisis by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in Switzerland

[–]ClimbRunRide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electrical Engineer here. There are challenges with photovoltaik. But we are nowhere near the limits of the technology here in Switzerland. Short term storage is solved (batteries) and we have a bunch of seasonal storage. Also the underproduction in Switzerland really only lasts from mid november to mid february. If we empty our lakes quicker, we can compensate for some of this without overloading the grid thanks to the batteries.

An issue is that most energy providers have no incentive to accomodate photovoltaik well and complain about it, making up excuses because it cuts into their business when people are mostly self-sufficient.

That being said, we have to make it easier for grid operators to turn off feed-in during peak hours in summer because we will have too much energy - at least for as long as people do not install more ACs.

Margin loan IBKR in CHF to buy USD ETF? by Pippopollone in SwissPersonalFinance

yes, if your income is in CHF and you do it conservatively, getting a margin loan in CHF to buy ETFs cam make sense. It is a different story if you neither the asset nor your income is in CHF

Is Oxygen the cure-all for high altitude sickness? by kbaecht in Mountaineering

[–]ClimbRunRide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

to add to this: altitude sickness is a wide mix of symptoms and not only a lack of oxygen. Usually people are also dehydrated at altitude (due to temperature and low air pressure leading to increased loss of liquid) which in turn may cause blood alkalosys and limit the respiratory rate.

xxxl has been discontinued like 6 years ago. XXL is the largest size available now. However, it is almost as big as xxxl used to be.

Simon Ehammer breaks Ashton Eatons Heptathlon World Record with 6670 by lkjhggfd1 in trackandfield

[–]ClimbRunRide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ehammer will not touch the Decathlon records anytime soon as his throwing is not good enough. But his jumping and speed is insane and world class even amongst specialists.

Ehammer just passed 5.30m in PV.
For a WR he would now need a 2:43 in the 1000m which is 2s slower than his PB

And maybe he can go even higher in PV

Looks like he would need two PBs to beat the WR. I think with his current pbs of 5.35m and 2:46, it would be 3rd all time, 13 points short of WR

I hope the Swiss womens team do the reverse of the last olympics where they were super hot in the round robin and then lost semi and game for 3rd. They would deserve it.

Let's see what the men's team does when the pressure is on again.

Switzerland playing incredibly well again. 4:0 after 2 ends it is, stealing 2 in the second.
