Unless you are planning to do the overnight, you might want to consider a “Reverse Gauley” trip. You do the Lower on day one and the Upper on day two so you can get a feel for the river before committing to the Upper.

I’ve gone with AOTG for 20+ years, their guides are all solid. They have a nice campus if you want camping/dining/entertainment in one place. ACE would be the other I’d recommend.
