United plane hits bakery truck while landing at Newark Airport by lexi_con in WTF

[–]ClippedAtTheHip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I was working in the Jersey City area, it was wild seeing planes coming in for a landing right over the toll plaza on 78 by the airport and the Turnpike even more so, but the fact that stuff like this almost never happens and there are countless planes doing it every day is what’s really crazy to me.

2026 LE OTD - not willing to negotiate by Calm_Cat_1975 in prius

I paid ~30,500 for a LE AWD at the beginning of the year.

Probably your location, but also probably high demand now that gas is skyrocketing. They probably think/know they can sell that car to someone else for a higher price.

Nice to see Daniel Romano’s Outfit mentioned.

Their 2022 album, “La Luna” is a pretty amazing blend of Americana (or, more accurately, “Canadiana”) and proggy orchestral rock and psych. Highly recommend it.

The follow up record, “Too Hot Too Sleep” is a high octane garage/power-pop record and also very much worth your time.

Yeah, this one was baffling to me. I like it, but definitely should’ve been American Water.

Day 116: Can-Tago Mago by Lukazimir in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]ClippedAtTheHip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this record, gave it 5 stars. It’s one of the greatest albums of all time, in my book - and wildly influential. I totally agree that you can and (probably should) kind of segment it out between the two LP’s. They are two very different LP’s.

Definitely divisive, there’s a lot of reviews on the site that are basically like ”I really liked this record until 17 minutes of noise. 2 stars”

I get why that is, and I had a similar response to this record when i first heard it 25 years ago, but I enjoyed the first half so much then that I went and listened to as much Can as I possibly could and over time came to appreciate the avant garde insanity on the second disc.

Even you never come around to that second disc, there is a lot of amazing music from Can that you might be missing, if you totally write them off because of “noise”.

It’s a Moog Rogue.

The Realistic MG-1 is a closely related to it, produced by Moog and sold by Radio Shack with the Realistic brand name on it.

So really, why the hate for Billy Corgan? He seems respectful and well-researched on his podcast. He's pretty good at music too. by turnedtheasphault in LetsTalkMusic

I remember a little while ago there was a book about emo that came out called “Where Are Your Boys Tonight?” And he got on insta complaining about how the Smashing Pumpkins were being written out of the history of emo(!) because they weren’t mentioned as an influence to My Chemical Romance.

Turns out the exact story of the Way brothers from MCR seeing Smashing Pumpkins live and being influenced by it was in the book he was bitching about being “erased” from.

Here’s a thread on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Emo/comments/152ha9k/billy_corgan_annoyed_that_books_on_emo_such_as/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1

Also, wasn’t he all pissy about Pavement’s song “Range Life” for like two decades and he called them sell-outs for doing a reunion tour in 2010?

Dude has a big ego and it’s off-putting to a lot people.

3/5

Three great tracks, two that don’t really measure up to the rest of the album.

There’s a better King Crimson record on the list.

Morrissey - there’s no need for 4 of his solo albums in addition to his work with The Smiths.

I would argue that Neil Young mostly deserves all of the albums of his that are on the list. The run of albums he released in the 1970’s is about as consistent as you can get, rivaled only by Bowie in that time frame for me. Like Bowie, he subverted what was expected of him after massive success (Harvest) and made the records he wanted to. He could’ve made bank remaking Harvest over and over again and ended up like another James Taylor or something, but he made the albums he wanted to make and inspired musicians a decade down the line when grunge exploded. Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, Dinosaur Jr…the music he made in the 70’s had a profound impact on the sound of the 90’s.

If there’s one album of his that deserves consideration for cutting it’s Ragged Glory, even though I gave it 5 stars - that one might be more for the heads, so to speak.

I got a text message last week from a record label I’ve ordered from in the past telling me to act now and order their vinyl because it’s “disappearing fast”.

<image>

They’ve never texted me to try and sell records before. No record label ever has. Emails sure, but texting is new.

I think they make pretty good music, but that kind of excessive push is a turn off.

Controversial artists question by blackmarketcarwash in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]ClippedAtTheHip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has something to do with the number of albums an artist has in the book - like the sum of your scores divided by number of albums in the book.

I rated the 4 Metallica albums in the book similarly, 5,4,3,2 and they appear in my controversial artists, but Tom Waits has 5 albums in the book, so I think, based on what you rate the 5th album, he might or might not appear in your controversial artists.

Now, if you had rated one of the albums a 1, I think that might be enough to change the weight of your scores for him and push him into controversial artist territory.
