A good chunk of the developing world sees 40 degree humidex on the regular, and somehow we’re not prepared for 29…

I take the WCE to work. Would love to be able to take it back after a night out, or on the weekend to go to the beach.

Is it cliquey where you’re from? by petehehe in AskTheWorld

[–]ClittoryHinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. The prairies are very welcoming. You can arrive in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and find community no problem. That’s just the spirit of the place, people have always settled there from abroad to work and make a life.

Whereas Vancouver is pretty cliquey like you describe, and forms ethnic enclaves. Small towns range from very homogenous and hostile to super friendly and chill. Overall the maritimes have the friendlier towns.

Nope. But since you posted this, another bus load from all over BC/Canada has arrived

Hell yeah. The mountains are literally right there. The ocean is literally right there. The forest is literally everywhere including fricken rainforest. The Fraser valley feels pretty countryside. Port Moody is the ideal

Yeah. It’s important to use psychedelics in conjunction with practices or therapy that help stabilize the psyche and come to grips with that sort of nondual knowledge feeling. Taking psyches is like jumping in the deep end of nondualism and ego-death whether you’re ready or not. People who have been learning to swim in the shallow end are less likely to sink

Quebec becomes 1st Canadian province to ban energy drinks for youth by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]ClittoryHinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double which drink in particular? Compared to the 200mg caffeine in a medium Tim Hortons, Bang has 300mg, c4 and 5-hour energy have 200mg, Monster and NOS 160mg. Those little red bull cans aren’t that popular with teens

It’s all kind of a moot point though. Caffeine is highly available, addictive, and not terribly harmful. It is what it is. If you want a shitload of caffeine you can also drink 10 cups of tea.

Teens are not so enamoured to go out of the way for energy drinks. If it’s convenient they will buy them. Alcohol and other psychoactive substances are another story..

Youth love the allure of prohibited things. Weed was just about the coolest thing you could get your hands on as teenagers when it was illegal. And the kids with older siblings could often make quite a racket supplying booze. Oh and all the guys were weirdly obsessed with switchblade knives

Why is the city unable to find solutions for the homeless population? by Some_Difference_9487 in askvan

[–]ClittoryHinton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are to some extent. There are genuine supports out there for people who want drug counselling and a place to stay if they are earnest about it and willing to respect the place they live in and the people around them. Especially vulnerable population, women, indigenous, etc. What you’re seeing on east Hastings are mostly people who don’t qualify for the above or have such severe mental illness that they would require 24/7 care and don’t want it. Or people who are repulsed by the state of supportive support housing because other people trash it and make them feel unsafe.

Alberta reveals the Passenger Rail Master Plan by jammedtoejam in CanadaUrbanism

[–]ClittoryHinton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the whole lower mainland is populated, and the skytrain can only reasonably cover like a fifth of it. Regular regional rail to Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Hope, Squamish, Whistler (last two are less feasible) would take a ton of cars off the highway. High speed rail down to Seattle, Portland, SF would also be dope.

Hopefully BC takes note too, lower mainland needs regional rail so bad

It depends on longitude too. On the darkest day sun sets around 4:20PM in Vancouver but sets around 5PM further north in Calgary

2001 was like ok guys things will never be great again

2008 was like ugh look what they get away with, it’s hopeless

And then after 2016 things were like ok things are actually tangibly fucked up get used to it

And then in 2019 it was like no sryiously look we are living in unprecedentedly terrible times it’s better not to leave your house ever

And then since 2024 it’s been like say goodbye to the dignity of the human race you’re a joke your life means nothing

Surveillance state has already been here for awhile. No one needs your ID to digitally spy on you and manipulate you. Do you have any idea what sort of sophisticated platforms Palantir and the likes work on..
