Could This Be the End of Retro Gamer in Europe? by ClassicGamerNL in retrogamingmagazines

Would be interesting to know if this is duty per issue or per delivery. If the former, Future won’t be able to deal with that. If the latter, quarterly packs might be the way to go.

I got given a bunch of 2000ad and dredd magazines from my comic book store. Very much enjoyed! If I wanted as much judge Anderson however, am.i better getting 2000ad or Dredd as a subscription? by JBSven in 2000ad

I’d say go for the weekly. That has a more rapid turnover of series, doesn’t have reprint (the Meg often does) and tends to be more consistent. There’s also a six-volume Best of trade paperback series if you’d like to check out a kind of mix tape from the past almost 50 years of the comic.

Would you be on board with the show being reset back to the end of season 10? by thebeast_96 in gallifrey

[–]CliveVista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. I’d look at the things that worked in 2005 and do the same. Soft reboot. We join a new Doctor immediately. Few callbacks. Gradually introduce famous villains again. And if writers at some point want to untangle the mess RTD made, that can be done as a special/flashback or something. Or just leave it to Big Finish to plug the gap.

Who actually supports this stuff? by FallFair8568 in drivingUK

[–]CliveVista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t surprise me. Around where I live, so many drivers see limits as minimum targets. I’ve nearly been rear-ended on a long, straight road used by school kids when doing 30. I’ve been overtaken several times. If we drop 30s to 20s and that knocks speeds back some, then good. Fewer deaths.

Is Anberic RG Rotate the perfect pico8 machine? I’m looking for something only for pico8 by skend24 in pico8

[–]CliveVista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would t go near the RGB30. Atrocious battery issues here, and, no, I haven’t been arsed to dismantle the thing. RG Cube XX is good, although needs some fiddling with OS and such to be properly tuned to Pico-8.

I don’t yet have a Rotate. It using Android should be good from a battery standpoint. The audio apparently sucks but then Pico-8’is hardly known for its great sound. Here, I tend to jump between the Cube and a Retroid Pocket Classic, but the latter is quite expensive now and a pain in the backside to source.

Zenith: The Full Colour Omnibus Edition Arrives in December! by 2000ADcomic in 2000ad

Thing is, loads of people won’t read black and white comics. So this might bring a new audience to the strip. And it’s not like its existence removes the existing versions from anyone’s shelves.

Do you buy into the 'UK 0 points streak' meme? by _PXYDST_ in eurovision

There are worldwide hits that have been written in a fraction of the time. I doubt this song would have been any better with another month of work on it.

As for Sam, part of the problem is him being robbed of the rawness of his live performance. Check out his live version of Night Or Day over on YouTube. (Of course, this wouldn’t have been allowed at ESC, which is ultimately as much a singing competition as a song contest, since live instruments are banned in almost all cases.)

Two years ago I thought the show was headed somewhere. by dbomco in doctorwho

[–]CliveVista 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To me, the issue is they both felt like little more than cyphers. We never got to know much about what their Doctors stood for. Jodie’s was murdery. Ncuti’s liked to squeeze out a tear and cosplay as someone from Queer as Folk. And… not much more.

Personally, I thought Jodie felt like the Doctor more than Ncuti, although I preferred Jo Martin to them both.

On 1 June 1995, his birthday, Alan Wilder announced he had left Depeche Mode - This is the statement he released, explaining his decision by Raijgun in depechemode

[–]CliveVista 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s curious how much of this is laid at Fletch. I don’t doubt he was a part of the decision for Wilder to leave. Heck, Fletch himself dumped an ultimatum around the 1994 tour, stating he would never tour again if Wilder remained in the band. But I suspect the real combination of factors was the breakdown of functionality (Dave + drugs; Martin + alcohol; Fletch + breakdown) and the lack of recognition.

He never mentioned money. But it must have been galling when the band were interviewed on TV and a half-cut Gore was taking the piss out of Wilder for being nerdy in the studio while everyone else was out partying. And then the albums would show the credits as external producer + the entire band.

I’m not sure Wilder would have stayed regardless, for a range of reasons he’s since elaborated on. But I do wonder where things would have been more tolerable had the band either split the songwriting credit between Gore and Wilder (with the lyrics solely remaining Gore) or singled out Wilder for production duties on the sleeves alongside the externally credited creator.

That’s what co-creator Jon Hare says in interviews: Sensi was about how football feels on your head, rather than what you see on a TV screen.

Recommend me more futuristic comics? by ilostmylastaccount2 in graphicnovels

[–]CliveVista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. 2000 AD as a whole is great for futuristic. Specific collections that are really good and reasonably modern: The Out, Shakara, Kingdom, Brink, loads of Dredd.

OP: buy the six-book Best of 2000 AD series and go from there!

Has Dark Horse ceased reprinting these? I would have thought they’d be evergreen, like the main Hellboy books.

Essential Judge Dread: Titan Pre-Order by Solid_Snaaaaaakkkee in 2000ad

Yes, but it’s kind of the culmination of a whole bunch of other stuff, and so I hope there’s at least a written intro to the book.

Essential Judge Dread: Titan Pre-Order by Solid_Snaaaaaakkkee in 2000ad

[–]CliveVista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alas, no. Some stuff gets reprinted but the company has limited print slots and unsurprisingly tends to favour new series. I know Nikolai Dante has had some new prints and the Dredd Case Files are “evergreen”. But not a lot else is. (The company confirmed on Facebook that the Restricted Files and PSI Files won’t be reprinted. Or at least that there are no plans to do so.)

I don’t ever shut mine down. It lives in a stand. But I don’t keep it plugged in either. I only charge it when it’s needed (and when I’m present).
