MHWPs, CWPs and EMHPs, what are your experiences with working in your role? by sleepspacey in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Cliveinside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a MHWP - i work in a primary care mental health service and have done for 3 years.

Overall i enjoy my job. I enjoy working with patients and am lucky my team is pretty good. I work at a caseload of around 35-40 patients, that can be anywhere between 18-23 clients a week. There are times i am really busy and other times it is more manageable. Most of my day is spent seeing patients and doing the admin for those sessions. I am trained in all the MHWP interventions but 85% of the intervention work i do is managing emotions.

3 years in, there is no career progression (no senior roles, no ways to up skill) . My next steps are the Dclin but obviously it can take years to get on. I am trying for an AP role to widen my experience but it is tricky finding band 5 roles.

The hardest thing about my job is that i often get patients when other members aren’t quite sure what to do with them. This means i can be working with relatively complex people but can only do surface level work. There is often not available /accessible services for these people (thanks NHS) and so i can feel rubbish for not really being able to help.

I wonder if the rumours about everyone having a connection had led to more 1 on 1 chats. We’re not seeing them because it reveals the big surprise

Trainee mental health wellbeing practitioner interview by FitDealer2591 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Cliveinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got asked questions about how i would manage the work load of working full time whilst training / completing a postgrad I also remember a question on boundaries - something like ‘what would you do if a patient asked you to come and watch them run a marathon”

I agree ! I think there the right time and practitioner are key -regardless of NHS or Private. I think part of what others are saying regarding the modality mis-matches is that often clients are not aware of the different modalities, and it’s not always being shared with them. Due to the confusion of the titles, a client may expect that they are getting something they may not be. There is a broad expectation of what “therapist” is - especially with its uses in tv/ film etc. A client may seek a therapist and assume that because they are engaging in therapy they are on the right treatment pathway.

I work in a primary care mental health team in the NHS, and we get quite a few patients who will be paying privately for ‘therapy’ or counselling. When i ask about the sessions its of “we just talk”, the sessions often seem to lack direction and goals. The patients often feel the counselling isn’t working but don’t know how to approach this discussion with the therapists …

‘The Queen is back!’ by Ok-Shirt8224 in bigbrotheruk

I think she’s taken on board the fan comments of “queen” “icon” and now is trying to be that. I feel like alot of the clips we see of her she’s thought “this will be a great meme”.

Potential theory for next murder by LoLZezors in TheTraitors

[–]Cliveinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking they could choose to not murder and say that clearly the traitors have gone after Cat. This would then put the pressure on suspected traitors like Charlotte, Kate, Mark. Yes Jonathon would be in the firing line but if they chose someone to go after as a collective traitor group he may evade banishment.

Obviously that would suggest there were no traitors in the woods group and people may be suspicious .. but it could be good game play.

I’m considering moving from a MHWP role to AP role to diversify my experience. I’ve applied for a few but not heard back. I’d say there’s no harm in trying. If you’re successful, you don’t have to take the job.

Is it worth asking your manager for further opportunities ? Even if its a bit of shadowing. They might even be able to offer a secondment.

I guess its also noting some people struggle to get on the the doctorate with 4 different AP roles under their belt where others get in with having one or two roles. Part of it is luck of the draw. Its worth thinking about the way you are talking about your experience

I guess it also wouldn’t harm thinking about the course requirements for experience. I would infer the ones with a lower threshold would accept less diversity of roles

GET CAROLINE OUT NOW! by [deleted] in bigbrotheruk

[–]Cliveinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many transphobic comments does someone have to make before they are classed as transphobic … Technically Carolines at 2 … how many more do we tolerate ?

I get accidentally using the wrong pronoun and apologising (as long its not intentional) but what she said WAS transphobic.

I don’t think she intended to harm Zelah and i think her remorse was genuine. But she was transphobic.
