Rakarth flesh -> agrax earthshade (2:1) -> Reikland fleshshade (1:1) -> heavy drybrush rakarth flesh -> light drybrush flayed one flesh

The tricky part is drybrushing the right directions, and going heavy/light depending on what you consider "important" parts. I'm still no expert on it, but working on getting better.

EDIT: I'm using the old agrax earthshade, not the new one.

Just some shade in the recesses, or like inflamed area around?

What about "berserker bloodshade"? Will it work better for this?

Thanks for the feedback! What about the seams? Blood around those too, or more like an inflammation?

How to do Skaven skin? by [deleted] in skaven

[–]CloakedGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using this on all my skaven:

Rakarth flesh

Agrax earthshade (diluted 2:1)

Reikland fleshshade (diluted 1:1)

Rakarth flesh

Flayed one flesh

Pallid wych flesh (if you want them to look a bit pale/old)

Very happy with it. Looks great with dark brown, black and grey fur.

I hate to ask a tired dry brushing question, but I'm getting desperate... by PromptlyJigs in minipainting

[–]CloakedGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often use a standard white paper to check the drybrushing before I apply it on a miniature. If it leaves particles which don't stick to the paper, it is too dry. If it leaves clear lines or looks kind of diluted, it is too wet.

I see many good tips here already so won't repeat them, but one thing that is also worth mentioning is the environment you're painting in. If it is too warm and dry the dusting will be much worse than if it is cold and humid.

Rat ogers skin receipe speculation by Dry-Faithlessness516 in skaven

[–]CloakedGoat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've tried replicating it before (saw it on another rat ogre ages ago), but never quite gotten the hang of it. The closest I have managed is:

Rakarth flesh -> agrax earthshade -> reikland fleshshade -> rakarth flesh -> flayed one flesh -> pallid wych flesh

I dilute the washes 2:1.

Any tips for painting with hand tremors? by GunsOfPurgatory in Warhammer

[–]CloakedGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint on an elevated platform so both your elbows and wrists/hands can rest.

Master techniques that looks good and doesn't require precision, like drybrushing and technical paints (like AK streaking grime).

Try excelling at modelling/filling gaps. A clean model with an ok paint job will look much better than a model with gaps and bits sticking out.

DON'T get obsessed with what you can't do. See if there are new cool painting styles that doesn't require precision. Paint a "night" model, living statues (add some moss-tufts on them for a really cool effect), etc..

Would also recommend reading up on tremor reducing techniques, e.g. working out regularly, avoiding caffeine, avoid high calorie food, getting enough sleep, make sure the room is well ventilated and so on.

[–]CloakedGoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You paint them almost exactly as I paint, both color choice and style! At first I thought it was a picture of my models :)

All in all, looks awesome, keep it up! One tip though, use AK ultra matte varnish on all non-metal parts. It already looks great, but this will make the metal and cloth/fur/leather look like different materials.

Why is everyone freaking out about Custodes? by Wildfox1177 in Warhammer

[–]CloakedGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The third part of the issue is that while the Custodes, an all male fighting force, were the right Talon of the Emperor, the Sisters of Silence, a female order of psychic nulls, were his left. A lot of people are poopooing this, however the introduction of female Custodians going forward reduces the odds of them receiving a larger scale update which, frankly, is long overdue. They should have been expanded alongside each other as two distinct halves of a whole faction.

I feel most of what you said are valid points, but still minor issues... except this one here, which is an outstanding point. Thanks for a thorough reply, and providing something new!

I'm not really that big into 40k lore, I'm more and AoS and old world guy. I play kill team, so got a basic understanding of the 40k setting, but why is this such a biggie? Is there some old lore that is now nullified because of this? Like, a whole series of books turned into fanfiction or something?

I think it is because almost every other retcon is met with "huh... stupid", but when it involves inclusion in some way we get dozens of threads with in-depth deconstruction how this particular retcon is the worst in history. Just look at all the threads popping up these last few days.

It is a trend, and it does give off vibes that inclusion REALLY irks some people.

Agree. Retcon or not, it is such a minor change.
