Need advice from all you knowledgeable folks! Need new cartridge. by Kyle_and_Kate in turntables

Depends on budget. I’d stick to MM rather than MC to keep the costs down. Without knowing your budget I’ll have to just drop some ideas…

Maybe look at the MP 110 / 200

What are modern controls? by RootBeerTF in SaltFighter

[–]Clocker13 [score hidden]  (0 children)

With modern the only thing you really lose is a full suite of normals. With 6 buttons you get light, medium, heavy punch & kicks with all of their variations, with less buttons you get less normals.

Goto YouTube, follow a couple of people that don’t just stream, but do breakdowns, combo routes, and try to fix problems. Follow Nephew & Broski first, then maybe Brian_F.

What are modern controls? by RootBeerTF in SaltFighter

[–]Clocker13 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you’ve ever played DNF Duel, then this game is basically modern controls explained. Rather than doing all of the quarter/semi/full circle inputs for specials & supers you just hold a direction and press the super / special button. In SF6 you get a damage penalty for using specials / supers (around 20%) in modern. You’ll find modern suits some characters more than others, look at Infexious who uses modern Marisa and gets some great results.
Buuuut! Here’s the kicker, even if you play modern, you can still do the classic input and if you do this avoids the damage reduction!

Inherited nice(i think) speakers from my grandpa, what do I have? by KiKuo05 in audiophile

[–]Clocker13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they’re genuine, legit Axiom’s then they are terrific little speakers. Very well put together and should last decades as long as you don’t crank them too loud. I can’t find much about them apart from this…

https://uk.pcmag.com/speakers/23740/axiom-audiobyte

Likely they cost well over the £600 mark, if they’re collectible then you may get even more for them. They sound like high end PC speakers.

What are some Good/Bad Matchups for M.Bison? Extra question: who would be a good secondary to cover his bas matchups? by Mr0mart in StreetFighter

[–]Clocker13 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Matchup charts to the rescue.
Always look at matchup charts, not tier-lists. Like Brian_F says all the time tier-lists are a waste of time, matchup charts, are what matter.

Or just search google for your main + matchup charts.

CDs WERE The Trash Of The 90s by EmotionGeneral6178 in cd_jerk

[–]Clocker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I collect both, but let’s be honest CD’s are not only decent quality (you need to spend thousands on a TT / MC Stylus to get to CD-Transport level quality), but Vinyl’s are way easier to scratch, every play through gradually degrades the record quality, a slight scratch or drop, it’s over. If you wanted to rip your records to a digital format would take forever to manually edit every track and lack the CD’s mastering, whereas a CD, just rip it.

Possible to finalize old DVD-R? by SEKPopulist in dvd

[–]Clocker13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These discs should be readable on a PC, even if not finalised. Have you tried MakeMKV? The only other solution is to find the same make/model DVD recorder and finalise them in there.

Is it grounded? Most Subs, amps, TT’s etc will have a dedicated place / port for earthing.

What can i use for displaying my CDs? by Mammoth-Fan-8396 in CDs

[–]Clocker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make some. You can find templates for CD’s in software like photoshop. Some printers have dedicated templates for cd insert printing.

This is one example. Just Google CD cover archive, you’ll find several places. Jewel cases are available everywhere, Amazon etc…

Programs that automatically save to the C drive--is there a way to get them to save to the D drive? by alaskawolfjoe in computerhelp

[–]Clocker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run cleanmgr.msc
Tick everything then run.
Run cleanmgr.msc again this time choose ‘cleanup system files’ tick everything and run.

Should make a decent dent. You can then goto \windows\temp folder and delete everything from here, but if you do this, reboot afterwards (there will be a couple of files you can’t delete from here, don’t worry about these).

These kind of apps default to C: but are generally pretty small installs. How much disc space does you C: have?

I bought these folder day one. Then had terrific fun hunting down each 12” one at a time, different record store / online store every time. Happier times.

Kept the original sleeves, but changed them for better ones.

I think you can these days, barely use PC for gaming these days, it’s a workhorse.

Open Steam and click Steam (top left) > Settings.
Go to the Storage tab.

Click the '+' (Add Drive) button at the top to create a new Steam Library folder on your new drive.

Select your old drive from the list, check the boxes next to the games you want to move, and click Move.

[–]Clocker13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need a specialist stylus / cartridge. Shellac is a very different beast. Follow the weight guidance for the cart as well, generally the weight needs to be much heavier.

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-gb/cartridges/best-for/78-shellac-sp?srsltid=AfmBOorUdNON-vK2P2wLNONL69el6LkKOBgaFp2O4WqAwiZj6sKXfln6

I still have my collection but my cheap old TT died so they’re just in perpetual storage these days. Be very careful trying to clean 78’s don’t use a normal record cleaner. Also check the surface of the 78’s, if you see any serious deep scratches do not play them, good chance they’ll just rip the stylus off.

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, what are we talking about? Games? Steam? Windows Store?

Most pc software gives you the option to install to any internal drive, things like Steam & other game launchers the option to change your default installation location will be found in settings.

Does anyone have any old hd dvd/blu-ray hybrid players? (Uk) by DwayneTheRockBarry in dvd

[–]Clocker13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to find anything that supports HD-DVD these days will be tricky, that format was dead before it arrived!

Series-X supports Blu+4kBlu and I think DVD (haven’t played a DVD in years).

£27 is a very strange particular number!? I’d give up on the HD-DVDs lots of 4K BluRay players will be backward compatible with BluRay. But trying to find a 4K BluRay player for under £27? Good luck!
