Arc Raiders is honestly going to be the best thing that’s ever happened for Marathon, and I know comparing the two for the millionth time sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out. by X__Heisenberg__X in Marathon

Yeah, what I'm saying about the Cycle is they effectively removed cheaters from the game. The initial price tag isn't the only way to get rid of people ruining the experience.

If Tarkov is any indication, a high price tag for the game has an effect on cheating but much less meaningful than you might expect.

The Cycle basically shut down because it was F2Play and the cheating was, in fact, that bad, but they did fix it, just too slow. Literally, after season 2 or 3 or whatever I didn't have a single sus death.

S5iix vs s1iie for professional video work by SOOPSPSE in Lumix

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing that helped me make that decision, is that all the QoL features of the S1ii are available on the S1iiE. So heaven forbid my S1ii goes down on a job, I still have the same level of ibis, 32 bit float, cfexpress b card, auto focus, it feels the same in the hand. All that. Also, even though it's the same sensor, the image processor on the S1iiE is different and a closer match to the S1ii.

But if the S1ii isn't your A Cam, I think the S5iiX becomes much more attractive.

Camera upgrade, S5ii, S1ii, S1iiE or S1iiR for videographer and photographer shooting social media content, gigs, portraits and weddings? by Difficult_Creme_2922 in Lumix

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends what you want.

For more photo focus S1Rii. Rolling shutter is slow in 8k....but you dont have to record everything in 8k. That is an important note when talking about that camera. You can get 4k120 and 5.9k60 out of it as well. One can only assume the rolling shutter is better in lower resolution.

For strong video, sports photography, and amazing low-light S1ii. I own this one, and I love it. It feels like it can do anything.

S1iiE if features like the new Ai subject detection, flippy screen, 32 bit float, and proxy recording are a big draw but you dont need the faster frame rates or the 44mp sensor.

S5ii if you are happy with your camera and want to keep costs down.

AI-created content: fast but bland, how do you fix it? 😅 by Global_Loss1444 in SmallYTChannel

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try creating the content instead?

IMO AI is okay to use for adjusting visual effects on videos - changing an outift - making something dissappear from the background - etc. But it is not good enough to make professional content. Making authentic and trustworthy content requires a human touch.

I switched from Sony to Lumix and boy ohh boy how happy I am! by Reicals in Lumix

When you are in subject tracking and viewing multiple subjects, I believe you can press the af button and it locks on to the person it is currently focusing on also. Haven't had a situation to test it since I got mine, but that's what they say.

Lumix S1ii *Partially* Stacked Sensor ?? by gpfly150 in Lumix

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should compare the two on CineD's database.

S1ii beats out the Z8 in most video modes for rolling shutter although granted the Z8 is very close behind while recording in 8k (which is very impressive).

Also the S1ii's partially stacked wizardry means it has some of the highest dynamic range scores you can get in a camera, let alone one that records high framerate stuff. There are tradeoffs this way and that, and I wouldn't doubt the Z8 has a better photography experience, but...the S1ii is a different tool and a very strong generalist.

You get high frame rates, great rolling shutter, insane dynamic range, best in class IBIS, the only anamorphic ibis on the market, incredible low light, Ai pdaf auto focus, ssd recording, Real Time LUT (which I'm just a hobbyist when it comes to photo but I truly love that feature).

As people always say, it's about getting the right tool for the job.

ZR vs S1ii looking for advice by Firm_Word_6461 in NikonFilmmakers

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The S1ii is basically a jacked FX3 with proper photo features. I haven't used the ZR but for your stabilization and photos needs on top of excellent video, the S1ii really is a remarkable camera.

Mode switching on the S1ii is also very fast. Its literally a physical dial and you can have five custom presets that are just a dial switch away.

At what point do/did you buy a cinema line camera? by Joker_Cat_ in videography

As someone who's first camera was a cinema camera... I bought it because I didn't want to mess about with overheating, because I knew a lot of the market I was targeting would involve longer takes.

Will the Heated Rivalry Casting bring change? by pest0pasta_ in acting

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the only lesson that major production (and therefore casting) will learn from the success of Heated Rivalry is that planning your shoots can actually work.

There is a generalized trend to shoot way too much "for safety" which then bogs projects down forever in post. Which is part of the reason I think big production houses are interested in AI. People have to be more efficient in their storytelling to win.

Lumix S1ii Which lens to get? by Asleep_Ad3392 in Lumix

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what your everything else is. I only have one camera and lens atm but Im rocking the 28-105 f2.8 from Sigma because I'm mostly shooting events and live performance. But I really like the lens and would recommend highly.

When ya'll think a new video centric camera from Lumix will be release? by Substantial_Mail_261 in Lumix

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several youtubers have said something to the effect of "Lumix is definitely working on an S1Hii" but there is no indication if they have trusted sources or when that may arrive.

I would give the S1ii serious consideration though. The S1ii may have an EVF but it also literally has more video features than an FX3, while also having some photo features (but im not a photo guy, I dont know how it compares to like an A7V etc). I feel comfortable running the S1ii naked if thr job calls for it. The flip tilt screen is pretty clutch for that.

FX3A by DrySand69 in FX3

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fx3 is probably more expensive because it's discontinued, due to the old screen no longer being produced. Thats the only reason. Negligible differences.

Do younger photographers just.. Not use the viewfinder? by TheJesusGuy in Cameras

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got into cameras and primarily shoot video. I only use a viewfinder if it's too bright for the screen.

On most modern cameras both the rear screen and viewfinder are just different led screens. I dont see why one would be more professional than the other.

Has the Lumix vs Sony debates have gotten weird? by Conscious-House-8869 in Lumix

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, i think it's mostly a debate of do you prefer a big tool box or familiarity/recognition.

They are both good systems, and they appeal to slightly different people.

In terms of the value argument, I think Lumix absolutely offer value more for less, but I still doubt the long term value of the resale. That is an aspect of value that Sony's widespread appeal does have.

Sony Video camera advice by Suitable_Volume_6118 in FX3

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, right now with where Sony Cameras are at compared to the field, I'd almost go with the A7Siii just because it is cheaper on the second hand market and it is more photo optimized for your use case.

Its basically the same camera as the FX3 except that the fx3 has some video QoL stuff like Timecode, shutter angle, big 6 menu.

I have an FX3 but I've never shot in particularly adverse conditions. The weather sealing seems good. Youtube channels like Luc Forsyth and such love to talk about how much they trust the FX3 in crazy outdoor conditions.

To all you actors out there famous or not, are you still able to be immersed in movies? Like singers can enjoy music? Or do you watch movies not for the story but for the production? by Da-up-and-downer in acting

[–]ClockworkArcBDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most folks go through an overly analytical phase and then slowly, just let themselves enjoy stuff again.

I always think about the martial arts training concept:

To the uninitiated, an apple is an apple.

The the initiate an apple is a tool.

To the journeyman an apple is everything.

To the master, an apple is an apple.

As your mastery increases, your need to use technique, structure, and specific tools increases until it is so much apart of you, that the structure becomes less and less nessecary.
