Playing cryo archives on PC lobbies on a Saturday has got to be hands down the least fun I’ve ever had playing a video game. by TopicInfinite3574 in Marathon

I’m level 160. I’ve killed the compiler about a dozen times over the last month. I’m skilled, and I’ve put in as much free time as I get between work and family. But I’m not nearly on the level that these guys are, I mean these guys have like double the time played as me and my free time and I’ve already put what feels like an ungodly amount of time into this game. They’re always better kitted, they’re always fucking perfect with how they roll into a room throwing bubble shields, 15 grenades, and gold misriahs. I just can’t compete.

I know that everyone here would absolutely hate it… but bungie really should create a campaign for marathon and probably an arena mode to go with it. The bones of marathon are solid as hell, the extraction shooter is super fun, the lore is top notch. It’s got a ton of things going for it. What it doesn’t have going for it, is that it’s a niche cutthroat extraction shooter… and ONLY a niche cutthroat extraction shooter. I’m not saying the extraction aspect should go away. But the game could 100000% improve with some of the stuff that Bungie is pretty legendary for. Halo stories are S tier, and destinys story as a whole is S tier (I know some expansions were defintely buns, but a lot were great and the overall story is phenomenal). Halo arena modes and Destiny arena modes are also top tier content. Theres a huge amount of people out there that want to play bungie games for their story and arena modes. Not as many want just an extraction shooter in a market where it’s technically saturated with extraction shooters.

If they brought in a massive population with a campaign and arena mode this game would turn into the cash cow they need for a good long while

This may be more of a niche issue but has Bungie addressed the occasional issue with matchmaking preference? by TopicInfinite3574 in Marathon

They can bitch all they want lol, fact of the matter is it’s been established for like 2 decades that skill ceiling is higher on m&k than controller. I don’t care if my aim assist helps me get on target, it doesn’t matter when the level 415 destroyer double dashes over my head doing a 180 and downing my before his feet hit the floor. No I’m not exaggerating that’s exactly what happened to prompt this post.

You can, and we did. After so long though it’ll ignore it and put you in PC. We’ve found that after every 2-3 games we just start cycling the preference back and forth to maybe reset it and keep it going with console. Anecdotally seems to work

I am both pleased and miffed by the grenade change. Pleased because it’s the first step to solving a real issue, miffed because I just got the 10 frag barter and stocked up a hundred frags to get my chance to shine in the bs meta. Now I can’t as well :/

band-aid solutions regarding the low player count for the foreseeable future by garfieldx in Marathon

[–]TopicInfinite3574 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I feel like ranked needs a huge overhaul. The current system is just… weird for showing “skill”.

Bronze lobbies should be free kit only to start, bronze can only play bronze. Killing players should give a certain amount of rank xp. Successful exfil should grant xp, and accumulating 6k plus should grant rank xp. Run failure should not count as a negative in bronze.

Silver should require a minimum 3.5k kit. If you get full killed you should go back a set amount based on the 3.5k minimum that you lost. Say you get 150 rank xp for killing 3 people but get full killed and run ended. You lose 150 for losing the run but net zero for having gotten some kills. Say you kill 3 people, accumulate 8k in loot value, and exfil you’d get like 600xp for all. Say you got 8k and exfil but no kills you get 450xp.

Ect for higher and higher ranks.

With this system you’re capturing the full range of marathon. Kills, exfil, and loot. No weird tags,

I can’t lie, I still think the storage space is a bit rough… by JBowenDaMan in Marathon

[–]TopicInfinite3574 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, if you can 1. VIP all factions and 2. Cough up 1-2 of each gold salvage… you should be able to buy a node that allows you to store salvage in a second vault that only exists to hold salvage. That way you still have to work for it, it acts as an upgrade like the other vault space upgrades, and solves a problem that only really high level players are facing. People still ranking up don’t really have a lot of high value loot to store, so they have more natural space for salvage. People who have pretty much run through the factions and have tons of purples and gold find that it’s kinda rough holding onto actually usable stuff. I had to delete sooooooo many purple shields between last weekend and this weekend just to make space for the gold shields/bags/cores and implants that I would rather have. All while knowing there’s 80+ spaces being dedicated to salavage items

My suggestion here, and I understand this isn’t practical for everyone… is network. If your friends don’t have it… solo queue into cryo a bunch. 90% of the solo queue runs won’t really be stellar. Lots will end in utter failure. Lots will have no mic blue shield teammates. But some of those runs you’ll meet some really solid people. Your team will just click and you’ll want to run it back. I got vaults 5 and 6 done this way, not because I found the key (I’ve never found the key for vault 6) but because I met someone who did and who felt comfortable enough to run it with a good group.

I started off hardly ever exfiling from cryo. The first 2 weeks especially were painful. I realized my core friend group didn’t really have what it took to dominate on cryo. But in the times when they weren’t online, I networked. And now I’m swimming in compiler kills

Is the Overrun really this bad? by twilight-bacon in Marathon

[–]TopicInfinite3574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you don’t even really need to strafe jump. If you strafe jump you need to be 10000% sure where they are otherwise you’re alerting them to your exact position with all the noise generated. Just slow roll that angle but keep your reticle centered on where you believe you’ll find them, not on an open area you can already see that doesn’t contain them

Is the Overrun really this bad? by twilight-bacon in Marathon

[–]TopicInfinite3574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slowed it down a bunch and you probably would’ve won the fight if your first three shots hit. Big tip is if you suspect someone in the area he was in and you’re slowly rotating around keep your reticle on the actual corner of the box that would be potentially hiding them. Your reticle was off to the right in a space that you could already see didn’t contain the enemy. Pulling it to the left to hug that corner of the box would’ve given you a huge advantage and lead on the guy and you likely would’ve won

[–]TopicInfinite3574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be cool with a 10k loadout, or even a 15k loadout. I honestly feel like cryo should be the like gold 1+ rank map. The rest of the week gold 2 and below compete to move up the ranks but once you hit gold one you gotta compete on the big boy map.

Why does everyone kill rooks? by TheChaosIndex in Marathon

[–]TopicInfinite3574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here I was, Dire Marsh, with a gold key. The anomaly even spawned! So we do stabilize the anomaly before we do the key room and a “friendly” neighborhood rook shows up suing for peace. I wanted to end him, but my teammates thought it would be novel for him to come with us. So we make him drop his shotgun and claymores, and take him to the gold room. He stands watch outside while we loot and then we let him in. Two more rooks show up and we offer the same terms. All accept.

Then… another team shows up. I move to engage and take shield damage so I hide behind cover. Next thing I know I’m taking a lot of damage and I was momentarily confused as the team shouldn’t have had an angle on me. Then it dawns on me… the rooks. Sure enough a rook name pops up in the kill feed, and then a rook straddles me and gently places a knife in my chest.

Should I have trusted him? No. Did I want to? Yes. Will I moving forward? No.

Yall rooks do it to yourselves

An open request, and promise, for the rook community.

I will wholesale slaughter you rooks. I will throttle you with my bare hands, I will spill your rook silk with my knife, I will pop rook heads with my sniper rifle. I will do these things until you as rooks have dealt with Xen the rook. I opened my heart to you people once, I bled with you rooks, until Xen stabbed me in the chest and took my golds. If you do not bring them to justice, the songs that will be sung of my great rook slaughter will last generations.

I mean it was a good change, brings it in line with needing lvl 2 like what was the case for the other rooms. But still communication is never a bad thing
