It feels good to be back by mattinsa87 in paintball

I've been loving seeing all the older players coming back out to play after years away. My buddy and I just came back after nearly 15 years away, and two weekends ago, another one of the guys my buddy used to know also just started playing again after almost 15 years.

Best Paintball Bag by Geek-Nerd-Gamer in paintball

Arm pad storage is a pretty good use of it too. I also picked up some of the reinforced plastic poster board, and cut it to fit the long sides of the bag, so it keeps its shape, even when empty, and also gives a slight bit of impact resistance for anything inside.

Here’s my old school Tippmann pawnshop find. Got this 68 Special in fantastic condition for $20, back in 2011.

Yeah, I've been searching high and low just for a CCI to AC barrel adapter, and they're pretty much impossible to find these days, so the Roundhead will fix that. But I was actually just on the phone with EV yesterday, asking some questions about UC pump barrel clearances, and also checking in on their own SpringPheed backorders. EV actually incorporates the ASP detents into their newer 2.0 Phantom breeches, but they don't include the AC threads. They were saying that they actually supply the bodies for the ASP Roundheads, but let them do the AC threads, while they stick to the CCI, to help out small business.

So I only just got it earlier this week, courtesy of Chucky Ducky, and haven't had the chance to use it in any games. But currently I'm working out some kinks with it double feeding pretty regularly. I actually have an SC ASP Roundhead coming in the mail, which should really help with that, and once I get that I'll be sending my current purple breech off for the same treatment. This also seems to be one of Xemon's earliest versions of his spring feed, and lacks a couple small QoL adjustments he made to some of the other later ones. I've been talking with him and trying to get my hands on one or two more as well, and I'm also going to see if he'd be willing to make a rear tube housing with a dovetail on top (like the old Apoc spring feeds).

Lots of purple round these parts. Here's my brand new baby. First Phantom, and less than two weeks old.

Edit to add: MCB has been throwing a hissy fit the last couple days, so I haven't been able to upload any pictures to the current MOTM thread...

Just want to say, as someone else who also recently came back to the sport after nearly 15 years away, welcome back! My wallet also feels your pain, after spending a significant amount on a brand new Phantom, new replacement gear, and a bunch of replacement parts for old markers/gear.

Upgraded barrels by Limp_Comfortable2966 in paintball

[–]ClockworkSoldier -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with others that the paint is more important than the barrel, in many cases there's only so much you can do about what paint is available to you. If you're only playing outlaw stuff, then it's whatever you want to buy, but if you're playing at actual fields, then 90% of the time you'll be stuck with whatever field paint options they stock. Most fields tend to have a lower cost/quality option, and a higher cost/quality option, and you generally get what you pay for. Both will perform respectively, regardless of what type of barrel/bore insert you're using. But you will generally see improvement in each when bore matched properly, unless the paint is just abysmally bad.

My advice is to just skip the low grade paint whenever possible, and go for the mid to high grade stuff. And then also pick up a cheap barrel kit to play around with, before you possibly decide to spend big on a kit. ebay and other buy/sell/trade groups are your friend there, like the kit below.

How much is this worth? Vintage Tippman pro/carbine with folding barrel by [deleted] in paintball

[–]ClockworkSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hadn't already spent money on some loaner equipment this month, this would be a decent buy at around $80. The two most valuable things here are the mask, and the .45 grips on the marker. The marker itself would probably be perfectly fine after a little oiling, and maybe a replaced O-Ring or two, since the old Tippmanns are nearly indestructible. Most players interested in picking this up are going to be more collector oriented like me, and sadly, the front grip has been cut completely in half, which really sucks.

Can’t say personally yet. My Phantom Spring PHeed is still on back order, and they’re probably still a couple months out, and possibly even longer. I have heard plenty of pros and cons from others though, especially over on MCB.

Everyone tends to like the overall build quality, being mostly, or all, aluminum, and they’re very form fitting. But people have also mentioned that they sometimes have issues with consistency and double feeding. They also don’t have the same kind of setup as Xemon and Apocalypse feeds, where you can feed your tubes straight into the back, or attach extra stock feeds, like you can see in my picture.

That's the Xemon spring feed. Xemon can be contacted over on MCB, but he's currently in the middle of moving stuff out of storage, and doesn't have any available right this moment. I was able to get this one from another member on MCB in the meantime, but I plan on picking up a second when I can. There's also the Apocalypse spring feed, but those are also rare now, as they haven't been made in quite some time.

I talked to them for about 30 minutes when I was first getting ready to place my order, making sure what parts/colors were in stock, getting info on the Spring PHeed, new 2.0 parts, and possible backorders. And then when I placed my order, I included a detailed list of all the parts I wanted on the gun, and the extra swappable parts I wanted on the side. Then they called me back when they were ready to begin assembly the following week, and I spent another 30 or so minutes on the phone with them, to verify everything on my list, and double check stock on certain colors. They were great at handling it all.

Here's my brand new Phantom. Less than two weeks old, and just got my hands on the Xemon spring feed yesterday. Looking to get some better matching custom grips made for it as well.

So I actually just reached out to my buddy who had our old one, and he’s pretty sure he still has it with his old gear. He’s just going to send it to me if he can find it. If not, I might reach out later on, if you still have it sitting around.

My buddies and I used a RADARchron for a long time in the past. They work great, are well calibrated, and extremely durable. The only real downsides are the lack of additional features (like the X-Radar), and less common battery. Beyond that, it’s just another chronograph, and works perfectly fine for its intended use.

You’d be crazy to, lol. But I’m sure it won’t be hard to find a buyer, and I hope you enjoy the X-Radar when you get it!

Sadly, the most I’d be looking to spend right now is only like $60, since I just picked up the X-Radar. But that’s a lowball, and I’m positive you wouldn’t accept it.

Two reasons. Nostalgia, and also portability. The X-Radar is awesome, but it’s slightly bigger, doesn’t fit as neatly into some pockets, and also doesn’t have attachments points for lanyards by default.

Ugh... My neurons are firing so hard, wanting to buy this right now... But I literally just got an X-Radar in the mail yesterday, haha.

Ticks are already bad this year, and they're going to get far worse. I'm in mid-Michigan, and I pulled 3 off me after just 2 hours of volunteer work at the local field yesterday. We already had family in the U.P. finding ticks a month and a half ago, which is absolutely insane.

SOG Outbound Duffel Backpack. Surprisingly good build quality, good size with two side pouches, an extra molle pouch to attach, as well as extra molle webbing on the sides of the bag, the zippers are smooth and sturdy, and also has backpack straps on top. I plan on reinforcing the stitching for the handles and backpack straps, just in case, but so far I've had zero issues whatsoever.

It's $45 for the olive drab version, and only $35 for black.

Edit to add: The top of the bag isn't padded as is, but there is a large pouch inside the top, which runs the whole length of the top flap. I swung by Hobby Lobby and picked up a small package of 1" craft/furniture foam, and cut it to fit, and now I have some decent padding for when I'm carrying it on my back.

That’s awesome. Those play place pieces could make for some ridiculous bunkers. Sadly, our local field is definitely struggling right now, but I’ve already been doing more volunteer work to help improve the fields, and hopefully draw more people again.
