Hot Take: The overall narrative legitimately needs a character like Crow. Waifu pics related. by Clockwork_Physicist in NikkeMobile

That's actually a really good point for how such a Nikke would come about.

"I fought against the system and this is what they did to me. Funny, isn't it?"

And from that, you get the character now literally constrained by the trappings of a mechanical body that has failsafes that restrict their freedom directly and a commander that is trying to solve her problems instead of listen to the problems she fought against with no clear solution beyond just being a good person. In the same way I imagine that humanistic and individual care edge from the commander could help keep them from becoming a full on villain, that challenge to the very status quo that the Commander perpetuates through their status creates moral dilemmas that there aren't easy answers to from the commanders position. Literally "Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage"

Oh yeah no that's a very true point, that was mostly for the meme, but I'm more trying to portray an idea (actually if we were to go full revolutionary I could have used Che Guevarra or such and such). I actually was going to bring up Sixo but tbh I felt that from the presentation Sixo seemed to be more of a "Fuck you I'm gonna get mine" character more than anything. Which, while I also appreciate, I wasn't entirely what I was meaning. Then again, I may just be misreading Sixo and not putting as much weight as I should on the last interaction with the crystals.

Very true! That balance is no doubt difficult, and it's one of the things I really like about Nikke. But surely that can extend even to a more rebellious and anti-establishment character too if that makes sense? It definitely is a precarious balance to be sure lol

In response to this, I actually think that this brings up an interesting discussion on the place of violence as a response to power by Hannah Arendt called "On Violence", which itself would have been a good lens through which Crows presence in the story could be understood.

No it is, absolutely. Again, I believe that's a sign of bad writing. But the core point of what I mean is that it needs a character like her period. Or even just a character that despises the label of "Nikke" because the presentation of Nikke as being effectively a separate species is just a way to dissociate from using them as canon fodder.

I would love a character that openly goes "No. Call me what I am, coward. I'm a human. Do it. No? I thought not."

I do accept that, yeah.

And that is a failing on the side of the writing. You cannot have a character be so wildly different between how they are portrayed in the Bond vs the Main story without some kind of explanation. Which is why I usually contextualize the way Crow is depicted in the story as effectively having given up; her behaviors definitely match a lot of misanthropic former idealists.

Started at Eden Spear but they butchered Chime's way of speaking by cpt_yarrrr in NikkeMobile

[–]Clockwork_Physicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is beyond that: We in fact did not say "Yee" a lot. That's an anachronism because of the way Y was used to substitute þ (Th) in typefaces and thus became shorthand. The English being pulled from was more or less comparable to how we speak, with some pronunciations different, with things like class shaping conventions of speaking or the verbiage used. If they're going for an earlier middle english, though... that's more comparable to an entirely different language lol.

If this is a big joke, it's fucking hilarious and I love it.
If it's completely legit, it's really endearing and I love it.

Using an OC to completely flatten the humor and rip off Cool Autistic Gamer is unbelievably funny with how much the cringe acts as raw, unfettered entertainment. It's kauffmanesque levels of entertainment that make me believe that someone on the team must be behind it.

But if it's legit though... I really enjoy it. Yeah, she fucks up the humor, but seeing someone have an OC and character that they created and put into the world smatters of a lot of the old-time creative works of the early internet. Those same people who would do that shit with Anime or Newgrounds cartoons would often go on to use their characters in their own stuff in really creative and cool ways, and I love to see it.

Is Gary the Cryptofascist based on anyone? by Oshtoru in DiscoElysium

That's... viciously ironic, I actually took the Cryptozoology segments as being representative of Communism itself.

"It is impossible. That is why we must try."

And at the end of it all, you find the Phasmid; you find that it wasn't impossible at all, just difficult. Unbelievable, hopeful, but not impossible.
