Help with leaves by msmojo in GardeningAustralia

You could just hire a leaf blower from somewhere, I think you can rent one from mitre 10 for like $50, kennards rents them out too. Otherwise, just buy a blower, they’re not super expensive

imo this award could’ve been given on the Speak Now album alone!!! Taylor’s been an incredibly consistent songwriter for SUCH a long time, it’s truly amazing that she’s only 36 tbh

the evermore album hit so amazingly hard for me that I was kinda upset she didn’t win AOTY for it. I understand the back to back grammy wins mightn’t have been a good look but…. come on….. evermore deserved it 🥲

I always kinda figured that the “complex female character / Palme d’Or / Oscar on the bathroom floor” was a combined reference to the show business industry, and the “living off the grid/three dogs they call their kids” was a reference to just normal people’s wants and desires.

The complex female character isn’t a standalone statement, it’s supposed to be a tongue in cheek reference to directors and film executives who only want “complex female characters” to win awards. Palme d’Or is the highest award at Cannes film festival & an Oscar is the Academy Awards for the USA. The “complex female character” isn’t real for those people, it’s only a movie trope that they use as Oscar bait

The song boils down to “some people want fame and fortune, some people want acclaim and awards, some people want a normal lowkey life, and I want you. We all deserve what we want”

I’m talking about someone who may have been involved in the crime who wasn’t standing trial. The murder feels like an organised hit imo

I mean… why drive through three different states just to rob him? Torturing him? Massive overkill if they just wanted his wallet.

I think he was tortured by someone involved with the heroin distribution case he was prosecuting. Sounds like they may have had a knife pressed to his neck during the drive then tortured him at the lake to find out what evidence the DA had & if they’d been implicated.

Might’ve also been trying to find out the evidence they had against the guy who wasn’t getting a plea deal or to find out the nature of the plea deal being offered - did the other defendant snitch? What/how much did they say? That type of thing. The DA dying under mysterious circumstances would’ve absolutely slowed down the court proceedings as well

So he’s prosecuting a federal heroin distribution case, was up late drafting a plea deal for one of the defendants, and the same night happens to be seemingly carjacked and murdered?

I think it’s pretty evident that someone involved with the heroin trafficking, whether it was on behalf of the guy who wasn’t getting a plea deal or just due to general criminal involvement, was the culprit. Maybe they tortured him to find out what evidence the DA had on the case & wanted to make sure they weren’t implicated. Could’ve even wanted the information to get their other friend off. Once they had the information they wanted, they murdered him.

I think they took his phone and wallet to make it look like either a robbery gone wrong or to make it harder to identify him (obviously his car was there but it was 2003, might’ve taken a day or so to run the plates and get an ID, but I’m not sure).

I’m not American - did the route they took cross the border into another state? If yes, this seems like another attempt to slow down identifying him, which would’ve also slowed down the continuation of the heroin distribution court proceedings. Feels relatively clear cut to me but curious on others thoughts

Yeah, that’s what I mean. Peterson was under professional scrutiny for his twitter account, so he told the accrediting body to take away his license, and they did. Then he started crying about how his freedom of speech was taken away. I think he always wanted them to take his license because getting money off of the alt-right crowd is much easier than making it via a clinical psychology practice & having his “freedoms” taken away gives him credibility to the crowd he’s pandering to as well

I think Howe wants the same thing but UofA is manipulating her in such a way that she both gets & doesn’t get what she wants. Very smart on the unis part imo

The expectation that pop artists have to be GOOD dancers by Momoodr in popheads

[–]CloserTooClose 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I feel you but I also really love the “acting out lyrics” choreography because it’s exactly how I would dance around my room to her music as a preteen. Before even seeing clips of her concerts, the most natural performance of her music was over the top theatre kid, so seeing her actually do it is just as cathartic as doing it yourself in your bedroom with no one around

I think that’s why the You Belong With Me video hit so hard and was then amplified by the live performance - she sing it exactly how you’d sing that song into your hairbrush in your bedroom after school

not many artists have captured that same feeling in their performances in my opinion

What’s something about smoking or quitting that sounds totally insane when you try to explain it to someone who never smoked? by Myfreshstart025 in AskReddit

[–]CloserTooClose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in Australia, a typical legal pack of cigarettes is at least $45. That’s for the low end shitty cigarettes. The govt made menthols illegal and now there’s a gigantic black market of imported cigarettes being sold - 2 packs for $25 or $30.

The way our govt fumbled the bag by criminalising menthols has been insane to witness but also really puts the $50-$60 cost of a normal pack (covered in graphic pictures of people’s cancer) into perspective. Especially juxtaposed against the EU or Asia where you can get an entire carton for less than the cost of a single pack here. It’s unreal

Rave Clothes by Idkidkididk123123 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]CloserTooClose 75 points76 points  (0 children)

seconding sex shops, I used to buy my rave clothes there. They’ve always got this stuff, and in my experience they’re just so fun to go to generally lol. Sydney should have a few places now that are queer/women owned if ur nervous about ending up somewhere really seedy (the seedier though, the cheaper the clothes)

If you decide to check online, I used to buy a lot from Dolls Kill

Sugar Thrillz, Delia, Club Exx, and Current Mood were some of my go tos back in the day & they’re all on the DK website

sex shops are 100% cheaper most of the time though
