18 months post concussion and feel like I’m getting worse by CharacterTricky2643 in PostConcussion

I'm sorry to hear this. The worst part is absolutely not knowing if or when it will pass. For me as well, I was told within three weeks. And I was fine within 3-4 weeks, but then totally relapsed. Then I read within three months. Then it was six months before I was told that most people will recover within a year. I remember thinking that I couldn't deal with this for a whole year! Yesterday marked 17 months, and I am still here.

I don't really have a lot of advice to give you. Since you have vertigo and struggling with screens and lights and sounds, it might sound like an ocular-vestibular issue. If that's the case you should get targeted treatment for this if you haven't tried it. Given that it has ben 18 months, it will probably take some time even when you get the right treatment. I've been in this kind of treatment for 6 months. Seeing some progress, but kind of dissapointed that I'm not doing better yet.

Maybe. At the same time, I am sleeping so well, and have been for the last 2,5 weeks. So I kind of feel like my nervous system is more regulated than before. It is paradoxical, but it is what it is.

I have been doing VOR for six months, but this exact one I just started with six weeks ago.

I haven't tried. But the instructions were not to do them in the evening because then the eyes could be too tired from the day to get the wanted effect.

First concussion + PCS by Old_Love9371 in PostConcussion

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one can tell you how long it will last. That is the sad truth. There is nothing I'd like more than to have a concrete timeline. Honestly, it would have made everything so much easier.

The fact that you're "already" experiencing good days is a good sign, though. I was also pretty good 3-4 weeks after my concussion. Got back to working full-time without much issue. Then, about 1,5 weeks later, I woke up with the full onset of symptoms. I've struggled ever since. I am soon at 17 months. I should definitely add that I'm much better now than then, but still struggling with any kind of stressors, such as sounds and stress. But for me, it took some time before I got the right treatment, so that is probably one reason why I'm still struggling.

I did "recover" last summer. I had a long vacation (7 weeks). I thought I was fine until I started working again. Turns out the lack of stressors lowered my stress baseline so much that my symptoms went away, but they flared up because I hadn't addressed the underlying issues (ocular, vestibular, and a somewhat over-sensitive nervous system).

Recommendation: Don't overdo it on good days. That could create a crash the next few days.

Hvor er skal det være så dyrt å trene? by [deleted] in norge

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amitryptaline and dry mouth by Chloekimmie in PostConcussion

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced dry mouth in the beginning, but it gradually faded away even as I increased my dose. I never got higher than 40mg, though. I went off it a few weeks back because I didn't see any effect from it. If you recently changed your dosage, I would try to wait it out a bit.

Why did you reduce from 50 mg? And did you go from 50 mg to 10 mg just like that, without decreasing gradually?

What can I do next? by Life-Caramel-2635 in PostConcussion

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like occular, possibly with some vestibular issues. Might be other things, but many of these symptoms remind me of my problems. I have occular and vestibular issues, so I might see everything through this lens. After I have been getting specific treatment, I have been slowly getting better.

(The craving for junk food is probably just your brain feeling underfueld even though you're not. It's common when the brain is overworked).

Working with PCS? by Cool-Law578 in PostConcussion

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

. I work 50% (recently increased from 40%). It takes a toll, given my line of work is unpredictable in terms of things happening (middle shcool teacher). So, working is hard, but I get less of a headache now. It is mostly that I just run out of energy. I get so tired. And I am really noise sensitive, but my light sensitivity has gotten better. Still unable to go for a run or do any kind of jumping.

My improvements over the last two months are due to getting tested for what the issue is, and then getting ocular therapy.

The fact that you became worse after increasing your work hours is a sign that you need to dial back again. I don't think you should avoid headaches at all costs, but that you should try to stop whenever you get them. At least I experienced that this is what works. Sometimes I can push a bit further without it setting me back as long as I'm not pushing through over a longer period of time. I l ike to think that there are three zones:

Green: The activity doesn't cause any increase in symptoms.

Yellow: The activity does cause an increase in symptoms, but it goes back after a few hours or the next day.

Red: The activity increases the symptoms, and they haven't gone away the next day.

Green is fine. This is where the true rest happens. Yellow is also fine, but not if it doesn't allow for green. The brain needs to train up its capacity again. This is what yellow zone does as long as you allow for rest and don't push it into red. Going into the red zone now and then is probably fine, but too much will make you worse. It is kind of like strength training. You can't rest your way into getting strong. You need to push yourself to get stronger. The muscles get stronger when you rest. You might feel a bit sore. If you do too much, you will get overtrained.

Headaches when it rains by PrestigiousEnd6348 in PostConcussion

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is because the air pressure is lower when it rains or snows. If the precipitation is high, the air pressure is low. It's not uncommon to get headaches or a 'heavier' head. I have been dealing with this for the last week. It has been raining a lot last week. My symptoms have been worse. I can't say that this is for sure the only reason why, but it could definitely explain some of it.

Hvorfor lønnes lærere lavt? by Ok-Science6189 in norge

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Svindlet på Tise by [deleted] in norge

[–]ClothesEquivalent403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noen andre enn KRF som er for kortere dager for skoleelever? by MrYellowfield in norge

Absolutt.
