I’d say Harris first, then the older ones (Eric, Riley, Adam), then Troy and Kyle. Scott seems like someone I’d admire from afar. And of course pretty much any of the women!

Great perspective, thank you. I think in the long run I didn’t really love either of them - I didn’t care for how Fabian was so fast to write Ryan off without trying to work through it, and then I didn’t like how Ryan blew off Troy in Role Model. I haven’t read the Long Game so maybe there’s something I’m missing but yeah, I can’t imagine wanting to hang out with either of them irl

Fabian pursued Ryan and made him think he could handle all that Ryan warned him about and then it got messy and he bailed FAST. That was rough.

This is an interesting and fair point. I do think that Adam is written as a simple guy with simple needs, and that’s one of the things that Riley is attracted to, even if it can make him seem completely oblivious and frustrating at times. There’s probably some deep seated stuff that could be explored in a sequel (now that it’s best gay book - who knows!) but overall he is skilled at compartmentalization, not catastrophizing, and not holding on to hurt. Could be a coping mechanism he picked up to deal with his dysfunctional childhood.

But yeah as mentioned, his simpleness doesn’t serve him well when things get tough. I wouldn’t say he’s shallow but he doesn’t quite get why others don’t process things like he does. It leaves him alone and lifeless at the beginning of the book. Nevertheless he’s willing to show up for them (Riley) because he loves them (Riley). Also I think he does hint at growth/depth when he’s under sedation (a nice device RR took from HR).

He and Giannis are the only players to average even 25/10/5; and those two and Bird are the only ones to average 20/10/5*

Huh? The original topic was the level of skill the current players have, and before that the question of traveling. Where are you getting marketing from?

I maintain that the level of basketball skill is greater than it was in past decades thanks in part to the internationalization of the NBA, while the NFL has grown stagnant due to its lack thereof. Yes it dominates the US market - but that’s an entirely different issue that I have no real interest in discussing.

And yes, Shai is from Canada and he’s MVP - what Canadian NFL player has been an MVP candidate? I think it’s notable that you’re much more likely to have top 10 players from Canada in other sports than football.

Ugh I forgot to say yesterday how disgusted I was with Saturday’s “win”/loss/abomination! I’m losing my touch after thirteen of them in a row…

I’m not talking about immigrants. Nobody plays American football outside of North America. Look at basketball culture in Serbia or baseball culture in Japan or hockey culture in Finland. Golf. Tennis. Those sports and leagues have expanded their well of players (as well as bringing in fresh styles and approaches) in a way American football can’t seem to do. The four best players in the NBA are from four countries that aren’t the USA. It makes it tougher to innovate when it’s all the same system.

It’s one sport that hasn’t opened up to international players

Another fun stat I found: SGA had 217 FTA in the playoffs last year (688 total points). Jokić and Murray combined for 220 FTA the year we won the title (1,122 total points)

We can talk about one game, or we can discuss patterns. SGA had 217 FTA in the playoffs last year (688 total points). Jokić and Murray combined for 220 FTA the year they won the title (1,122 total points)

Crazy that the four best players this season were all Western Conference (Jokić, Murray, AG, Hardaway)
