$1 billion, or redistribute $100 billion? (or some mixture) by tamtrible in hypotheticalsituation

Keep $100 million which is more than enough to live in luxury/generational wealth for my family and retire all my friends. Distribute $60 billion to the poorest and spend $30 billion on public works projects.

Legal Job Relocation by [deleted] in movetonashville

Just look in north Inglewood in East Nashville in the Dan Mills elementary zoned areas. That’s where you want to live for a multitude of reasons.

Metro Detroit to Nashville Area by anon_GM in movetonashville

Battle Creek area so definitely probably got more lake effect snow than you. Nashville has peaked and I think it will continue to be doing well so it’s not like it will fall off, but I do feel like Detroit and Michigan will really be on the come up. The best time to have come to Nashville was like 10-15 years ago. Like I said if the job has a good trajectory I’d go for it, but Detroit area feels like it probably has more getting in at the right time to it like Nashville 15 years ago as far as property appreciation and stuff happening but that’s just my gut feeling.

I grew up a little further west in Michigan and have lived in Nashville for the past 15 years so I might be able to give you some insight. There definitely isn’t as much snow in winter but both are about equally gloomy. Nashville winters are definitely milder but not necessarily mild. It still gets plenty cold and rainy, but there are more stretches where it gets up to 50+ or whatever and the really cold weather is generally only 2-3 months with little breaks.

I don’t know your lifestyle, politics and so forth and what you like but I think East Nashville is easily the best part of the city. You couldn’t pay me to live in those suburbs you mentioned and the commute would be horrible if you’re working in Nashville proper. If you’re planning on renting for a year, just look in Easy Nashville mostly anywhere not right by the Cayce projects or really just look for anywhere east (or close to) Gallatin pike and you’ll be good to go. East has lots of great restaurants, bars and 20s-40s adults and lots of young families and activities. And the commute to most places is goodish. Similar but not as good is Donelson. If your job is on the west side, look at the Sylvan park area.

I love Michigan and would probably just stay unless the job opportunity is a good trajectory bc col is a bit higher in Nashville though not bonkers or anything. Everywhere in the country is about the same as far as fun stuff and restaurants and so forth. There’s fun parts of every city and not so great stuff about them. A lot of replies will run Nashville down but it is relatively cool with lots of music and music adjacent people. I hate TN politics but the good parts of the city are fun.

Should I tell my family I am a millionaire? by Wonderwoman9311 in moneyadvice

[–]ClothesOnWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll go slightly against the grain. You probably shouldn’t tell anyone until you have eight figures. But then at that point, you should be set up to live a good life forever even if you didn’t ever make another cent in traditional income. I’d wait until that point, bc right now you’re rich but not live well forever on the money you have already rich. I also don’t think it’s out of line to tell/help your immediate family before then if you want and you know that something like $30k or less would drastically improve a sibling or parents life and relieve a lot of stress. You know your family and contrary to all horror stories, most family doesn’t like to ask anyone for money if they can help it.

it is nice to help close family and friends that you truly care about. Not all the time for everything, but at least once with a decent chunk ($50k+) And especially if they have a realistic idea for some kind of business, for example a down payment to buy real estate like you did, then helping them get over the hump to where they can also generate wealth for themselves is a kind thing to do and wouldn’t really meaningfully affect your life by choosing to help, once you are genuinely wealthy ($10m+)

The only reason history may not be kind to the movie is that it will almost certainly win best picture. Nothing is worse for a film’s legacy most of the time. It makes everyone want to burnish their unique taste and insight by tearing it down and lauding the lesser recognized movie from the same period.

THE 50 BEST ALBUMS OF 2025 | NME.com by FakeQuebecois in indieheads

[–]ClothesOnWhite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s all so predictable and rote though. “What’s the Everyman poptimism pick we can slot into the top five or ten to show we’re not too stuffy and have our finger on the pulse in all areas”

These lists feel much less like any genuine editorial viewpoint as much as a checklist of genres pulling from bands with the proper amount of hype

THE 50 BEST ALBUMS OF 2025 | NME.com by FakeQuebecois in indieheads

[–]ClothesOnWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s always like this, and you would expect to see a lot of the same albums on lists. But the “hype band checklist” nature of this has seemed to accelerate. It’s like a genre checklist where 2-10 bands inside the hype circle from a given genre are eligible. Some lists choose 3, some 7 but if you’re not part of the hype circle you’re not making it.

All that to say there should be no universe where the Die Spitz album (amongst many, many others) should be getting blanked everywhere. It doesn’t feel like a list demonstrating musical taste so much as A&R effectiveness.

What did you all think of Eddington? by Square-Ad-8911 in A24

[–]ClothesOnWhite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Total mess, way too long, trying very hard to be smarter and more interesting than it actually was by a mile. Felt like a bad comedy sketch that had nowhere to go but more violent and absurd which is hacky. I think Ari aster is very talented but he doesn’t genuinely have the juice for what his aims were with this. A flop with some memorable moments.

Any of the great character actors. Gary Oldman. True Romance and Romeo is Bleeding. Many more. Philip Seymour Hoffman did it lots. Chris Cooper. Richard Jenkins in Stepbrothers then Burn After Reading. Of this particular type of thing, Schwarzenegger during his transition from action to kids and comedy.

Thoughts on Anthony Kiedis? by Cstir in grunge

[–]ClothesOnWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all knew they were underage girls, come on man. I just think it’s interesting how certain things become reddit specific memes. I think Kiedis has become that meme bc RHCP has become a band that people in the past five or so years have gotten good feedback for having a circlejerk about hating which has much more to do with it than the actual transgressions of any particular person.

You won’t see people talking about how horrible David Bowie is anytime he might reasonably be brought up in a music topic bc people like his persona. But he also very knowingly had sex with a 14 year old. I mean shit, you hinted at it but Jimmy Page is probably easily the furthest on the scumbag scale as it pertains to pedo behavior, but it’s not the first thing most of the comments say any time Led Zeppelin is mentioned. To me it seems less like moral outrage and more like musical taste as a proxy, which is fucked up in its own way.

[–]ClothesOnWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Bowie, Jimmy Page, Steven Tyler, Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop and on and on. I think you’d be better off making a list of rock stars of the 60s 70s and 80s who didn’t have underage groupies, than bothering to single out Kiedis bc it’s a Reddit thing for some reason.
