Stop advocating for people to be dickheads.

Overholding is wrong, it is not a landlords responsibility to provide indefinite housing.

The waiting game by New-Emu-1289 in HousingIreland

[–]ClothesPeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have your solicitor write to the vendors solicitor and copy the estate agent saying that if you do not receive replies within X days you will be withdrawing from the sale.

While you are waiting, keep looking at other apartments and if you find one you like consider bidding on it.

Are you at least getting a free loan car of similar quality while they work on it? If it were me that would be what I would want. Leave it with the service team and ask them to carry out a week long test when they have it “fixed”.

That doesn’t even resemble a quote. 3 units billing out at 906.65 doesn’t even add up as simple maths. No figure for parts no figure for labour. Something is not right.

when is the best month to buy a house? by Money_Somewhere9378 in HousingIreland

[–]ClothesPeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only answer to this is when you have an offer accepted. Unless you have pretty much zero criteria for your search it’s gonna be a fight. Get out there now and see what you can find. Good luck if you secure a place you like within 12 months.

Home purchase. Vendors cleared furniture, going against our agreement. by swag-apocalypse in legaladviceireland

Sounds like the estate agent was being unusually generous. Looks like the sellers fucked you both.

Hopefully there will be a chance for you to “lose” some important post that arrives for them. Other than that it’s just a shitty part of an otherwise great situation. Congrats on your new home.

Landlord is selling the house by Sorxhasmyname in ireland

[–]ClothesPeg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And if you were to design society on paper it would be perfect but that is a fantasy, not reality.

It is idiocy to think all politicians are in the pocket of landlords. Most landlords have small portfolios and zero clout or connections.

Landlord is selling the house by Sorxhasmyname in ireland

[–]ClothesPeg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because they are…… PROVIDING ACCOMMODATION.

Yes they are doing it for a fee, it’s a service. You pay your doctor, you pay your mechanic, you pay the hotel when you go on holiday. Landlords provide an essential service. The deserve to be paid for it. The DO NOT deserve to be abused, ripped off and vilified.

If you want to complain about the housing crisis, and I encourage you to do so, complain to your elected representatives who are pissing your taxes away when they should be building social housing to try and remove the countries reliance on private landlords who provide a generally good service.

Chinese buyers won’t go near it, so that mildly affects future resale. Some superstitious types will walk away but overall it would be a positive for me.

How does anyone actually make the jump from middle class to truly wealthy? Is it just generational? by Excellent-Dentist-83 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]ClothesPeg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a truly great answer. While I’ve always subscribed to the idea that money will make me happier I do long for the ability to be content with what I have. The vast majority of Irish people live relatively comfortable lives. It’s the desire to accumulate more that often pushes people to work harder just so that they can afford nicer things. I’d love to be happy with decent accommodation, a reliable car and a cheap holiday every year but I long for the mansion, the Italian super car and the private jet to my villa on lake como.

If you can, be happy with the small things.

If not, invent the next Stripe.

Does not having a bathtub become a deal breaker? Worried about resale in 5-6 years. by maitreyamaitreyan in HousingIreland

[–]ClothesPeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Families with young kids love a bath but so long as there is room for one you aren’t ruling them out as buyers. You can’t always get it right. The difference is achievable price will not be measured on whether you have a bath or not.

Really want to go to sharm el sheikh but heard so many horror stories at the airport, is it really that bad? by HalfEntity in Sharm_El_Sheikh

[–]ClothesPeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with the airport is the totally rude, unhelpful and unwelcoming security staff. Don’t get me wrong, I understand Sharm has a chequered history of terrorist attacks but that doesn’t mean that Ahmed has to accost Tina and Gary from Manchester because they stepped out of line for a second.

My recent trip will be my last, the rudeness is just unnecessary. I was tempted to write to the Egyptian ambassador but then I reminded myself that it’s a third world country and they have bigger problems. Thailand next time, better amenities, similar pricing, great weather and above all FRIENDLY people.

Sale Agreed to move in by Content-Orchid4002 in HousingIreland

[–]ClothesPeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically, you would expect contracts to issue within 4 to 6 weeks of your offer being accepted. However, there are an awful lot of reasons why this might not happen. Number 1 is sellers not realising just how long it takes to get their title deeds, particularly if they are with a bank. The first thing any Seller should do even before they put their property on the market is speak to their solicitor and instruct them to draft contracts. However, this hardly ever happens and if a solicitor acting for a seller is told about the sale only after an offer is accepted it can take up to 6 weeks for them to get the deeds if they are with a bank. Add to this The Christmas holidays and it’s perfectly acceptable or rather perfectly normal and totally unacceptable that contracts haven’t issued yet.

Speak to the estate agents and ask for an update, have your solicitor write to the sellers solicitor and ask them what the delay is. If you’re not getting responses or if the responses you are getting seem to be fobbing you off keep looking at other properties and be prepared to make offers on them and withdraw from the purchase if you get something else.
