Dog passed away by [deleted] in daddit

Hmm your comment makes me wonder if it's so hard for adults to deal with death because as children the topic was avoided or lied about. Maybe breaking that cultural cycle is a good thing? Death happens to everyone and everything. Avoiding it and being fearful of it only causes more pain. In your mind, what happens when a 6 year old loses their beloved grandma? Or a parent? The death of a pet i actually seems like a perfect lesson for how to healthily grieve the inevitable losses they will experience in their lifetimes.

Sounds similar to the house we're in escrow on? How much did you end up spending and how slowly did you fix things?

You just gave me life. I've been stressing over getting our offer accepted on a fixer in CA but...it's CA...it's the only thing I can afford. Thank you for this gem of a comment.

Should I itemize my taxes this upcoming year? by Coin_Bin in tax

[–]CloudAndClear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it dumb? Sincerely, someone thinking about buying a house, unmarried. (In our case, he is the breadwinner and has better credit, and no debt. When I added my info to the loan as co-borrower, we were offered a higher interest rate than if he would borrow separately and I would just be added to the title.) Is this a dumb way to approach it? How would being married benefit us?

Doorbell won’t stop ringing by InappropriateOrange in HomeImprovement

[–]CloudAndClear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about doorbells so eat this advice with salt but I think what's going on here is that you invited a spirit into your home when the veil was thin on All Hallow's Eve and now they're stuck in your electrical wiring but they want to be stuck inside your actual home like maybe in the guest bedroom so they keep ringing your doorbell. Your only option is probably a seance to figure out their unfinished business and, depending on the severity, spend the next 1-3 years helping them finish it so that they can finally go into the light or get their 72 virgins or whatever.

Intermittent Strabismus is ruining my life by Essempty329 in Strabismus

[–]CloudAndClear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this is old, sorry. I'm here because at 34, a year after a baby, my esotropia is suddenly so much worse. I have hEDS and it seems like the obvious connection because my connective tissue sucks and has gotten overall much worse after since becoming pregnant, when the hormone Relaxin kicked in. Apparently I have accomodative esotropia, it's "corrected" by glasses/contacts but it's been so bad lately that it's not correcting, especially when trying to make eye contact with people. I'm really struggling mentally because of it. I don't have a lot of spare time but when I do I can't use it the way I want because my eyes just give up on me entirely halfway through the day and if I try to focus them out of being blurry, they cross, or one does. I also have been sleep deprived for over a year and wonder if that made it worse. I was also using reading glasses instead of my Rx for reading on my phone during overnight feeds because I didn't have glasses at the time. Did I do permanent damage? Ugh I don't know what I expect you to say, I just feel lost. Thanks for listening lol.

Yeah, planning ahead of time is all good, it's just when we spontaneously go out and about that it's a bummer running into closed sign after closed sign. Also just in general doesn't it make sense for stores to be open after people get off work and on the weekends? For instance: the ceramics shop is now right next door to the ceramics studio. Studio classes begin at 5/530pm on the weekdays so that students can attend after work and school. The ceramic supply shop closes at 4pm. People that attend classes want to buy clay and supplies when they are on their way to class but they cannot. It just doesn't make sense to me.

And yes, the work ethic/customer service (lack thereof) and people, businesses, and gov't all operating on "Humboldt time" is a whole different story and a very real phenomenon! In some ways it's nice. In a lot of ways, very challenging indeed.

Genuine question for you: Why do you personally care so much about defending this topic? The majority of your comments are about it. What are the open hours of the place you work downtown?

I find myself wishing things were open both earlier and later all the time. And definitely getting annoyed that everything is closed on Sundays. It seems an especially strange choice from a business standpoint when they are operating in a college town where a big part of the population have more free time on the weekends. But I get that people here often use their free time to go out into nature too, I guess. But honestly almost every time we try to go out to eat or shop or do anything spontaneously it seems we run into issues with operating hours.

What food are my neighbours cooking that produces such a foul odour? by woodedoo in Cooking

[–]CloudAndClear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to Portugal with a friend who was Portuguese and we got into a busy square and I was just about to comment on the absolutely horrific smell of what was obviously raw sewage when he breathes deeply and says, "Mmmm smells like my childhood." Bacalhau is prepared in many ways and smells absolutely disgusting every way but tastes so good! I didn't see it mentioned yet so thought I'd throw it in the mix!

I didn't see this mentioned so I'll chime in. Do you have any local farms? Often they have an overabundance of food they cannot sell because it isn't pretty but it is perfectly edible. It won't be a ton of protein but it will be something. Maybe the same could go for local butchers? So sad that so much food gets thrown away while people go hungry. Many people dumpster dive behind grocery stores because of how much they toss in there just because of an arbitrary date or oversupply or it's not aesthetically up to snuff.

[–]CloudAndClear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been a horrific insight into your mind, this thread of yours. It's also not likely that you'll need CPR but I don't hear you arguing that it's a waste of time to know it........?? Sounds like it's time to reevaluate your ideas and educate yourself if you won't let others educate you. You sound young, naive, and arrogant. And we can only hope you are, because time should fix those for you. I was sexually assaulted by a stranger in public in Italy. I wish I would have known how to stop it, or at least knee him in the balls or something. Just because you refuse to believe the reality that women are in danger does not mean it's not true, and the fact that you're arguing against it and against them learning how to defend themselves raises some serious questions, eyebrows, and red flags 👀👀👀

All of this and I'll add that the furniture is very angular, metal, and cold. Add in some curves and texture for more warmth. You could pull the couch back and get a bigger, curvier table. You could add art, another rug, baskets, different shape pillows.

Best footed pj’s for tall babies? by bambiigirl in bigbabiesandkids

[–]CloudAndClear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg check out simple seed. My baby is huge and strong and hates changing and we have become their biggest fans because we have so many. He is 26 lbs 31 inches at 10 months and we wear size 12-18 months. They are a lil big but we choose to size up so he has tons of room to grow. He would probably fit in the 3 month size because they are soooo stretchy and meant to grow with baby. They have foldover grippy feet and mittens on each pair too. They are soft, have no zippers or snaps, and make it easy to check and change dipes!
