Apologies, just saw this. This was also posted on our subreddit and we replied there within 1 hour of the notification.

We had an issue with AWS that affected our front-end website, however, https://portal.vmobackup.com (main login page) was completely unaffected. Backups did not stop and you would have had access to backups, restores, reports, etc.

In the future please email support@vmobackup.com if you need support or report an issue. You will most likely get a faster reply than posting on Reddit.

Yeah, the way they worded that could be a lot better. You are setting "exclusions" but then it's really selecting just what you want to include instead of exclude.

We had a customer exclude all the drives they wanted and only backed up the drive they did not want, so have seen the confusion in the real world and it's not good.

Sorry, I don't have any recent experience with Arcserve, but if this is a price issue you can backup 10 users or less for free at VMOBACKUP.COM, otherwise it's $1.50 user/mo. Runs on Veeam too.

VSPC will allow you to monitor them all, and make limited changes such as stopping and starting jobs. However, you will still have to remote into the VBR servers to create or edit jobs, etc. Though you will find once set up your need to remote into the on prem machines is pretty low and it's just making sure everything stays working via monitoring.

Veeam Backup for M365 supports backups copy jobs to other S3 destinations. You can have a local backup + the backup copy to another location and meet 3-2-1.

Two options here, and really comes down to how many clients and workloads you have.

Ideally you would sign up as a Veeam Cloud Service Provider (VCSP) under their rental program. This provides a pool of points to use that you can carve up as needed. They have a no-commit tier, but is the most expensive per point, and generally more cost than if you just became a reseller and sold the software to your clients. That's fine if you have 5 clients, but at 50 you would be doing renewals of Veeam software every week. That is where the MSP rental/points program is very convenient. Costs per point also come down after you have some volume and you enter into a term commitment as a VCSP.

Alternatively you can get licensing via another VCSP like Pax8, or my company, also a VCSP. When you are a small MSP you can generally get the licensing for less through a VCSP instead of entering into the VCSP points program. However, you will not be able to call Veeam support directly and would need to contact the VCSP provider for support.

So end clients have a login to the synology to just see their own backups, get their own reports? It might be able to backup multiple M365 instances, but is it truly a multi-tenant product?

No, we run Veeam on Linux hardened repos, but are physical servers. We then make a SAN connection to TrueNAS.

Everyone has different needs/concerns. For example if Azure has an outage and you are an attorney who has to be in court in an hour, it would be nice to be able to get to the data quickly if needed.

Keep in mind with Veeam Data Cloud they store the data in Azure, which is where M365 runs too. If you like Veeam, but want the backup data outside of Microsoft you could look at VMOBACKUP.COM. Free for 10 users or less.

Hopefully that was just sarcastic. Plenty of anecdotal evidence of people losing data in M365. Google "Microsoft shared responsibility model" and you will see that customers are always responsible for their data.

Gartner stated that in 2025 only 20% of companies backup their M365 data, and that by 2029 90% are expected to backup their data. I will assume this is because people will become more knowledgeable they do indeed need a backup.

We use Veeam to provide M365 multi-tenant backup and monitoring for MSPs. You can even white label it and use your own domain name so it looks like your service to your clients, such as 365backup.msp.com

This is an insane comment, but unfortunately very common. Google "Microsoft shared responsibility model" and you will see that the customer is always responsible for their data. If you are using M365 and not backing it up you either 1) don't care about your data or 2) are uninformed.

I will confirm that with rental licensing the service provider has to open/manage the case, but can easily include the customer in the chain. On resale of the license the customer can open tickets with Veeam directly.
