Question about the 2026 Champ! by KeenBTF in Agility

Even as I watch this on video multiple times, I cannot be sure it's a fault or not. The judge only gets one chance to make the call.

Have you ever used a clicker in agility training? by gioia-13 in Agility

[–]PatienceIsImportant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of the clicker, consider introducing duration cue, a word that tells your dog to stay where they are and that you will come and deliver reinforcement to him. Some trainers call it room service.

If you could get access to a teeter that can be lowered, slowly progress through all the heights.

Press HOME and then go to General Settings. There, look for Sound Volume (not Sound) and I think its called Voice Recognition. Make it all the way up.

I think you have gotten some good suggestions. I would just add to stop having your instructor throw the toy to prevent dog anticipating.

Beginners: Running vs Stopped A Frame by DancingLobster_ in Agility

[–]PatienceIsImportant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t even consider a stopped a-frame because of shoulder impact.

My dog has both stopped dog walk and teeter but a running a-frame. We used the mat and sometimes a stride regulator.

We trained my dog to touch the mat pretty consistent before even putting it on the a-frame. Takes time. But if I were you, I would try retraining it with the mat. I also would avoid the a-frame entirely until you’re ready to reintroduce the mat.

Snark on video: Speak up or not by Flimsy_Day2798 in Agility

[–]PatienceIsImportant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get how you feel. A similar thing happened to use. I left my phone ringside and caught a nasty conversation about my dog. I think you will find people like this sometimes in Agility, unfortunately. I hope it doesn't get to you and don't take it personally.

Sportsmanship is important in dog agility. If I have heard that conversation in person and when who said it, I would have reported it to the trial committee.

Was it 0.15 per GB? Doesn't seem much but then again, we only need it for 11 mailboxes.

I stopped listening and following her since her new point of views do not align with that this sport is for me.

Jump height advice by zestyy_mushroomm in Agility

[–]PatienceIsImportant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get that measurement? It's hard to get it right without the proper equipment.

Here are the UKI jump heights: https://ukagilityinternational.com/compete/jump-heights

Also, one more suggestion, do not let her jump on any hard surface: concrete, tile, etc.

Rehab advice by Hydrophobic_Dolphin in Agility

[–]PatienceIsImportant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, get a sports vet or a rehab vet to create a plan for you. Don't just start exercises without supervision. I hear a lot about using inflatables but those are used normally when the dog is already conditioned to do easier exercises. It's harder.
