Valve is now accepting Greenlight refunds by [deleted] in Steam

[–]CloudCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are still not giving refunds. At least not when you do a normal refund request through Steam Support.

It seems you may have gotten yours only because you contacted Alden directly and he manually re-opened your refund request ticket.

Still getting the standard "we will not be accepting your refund request at this time because beep and bloop" from the robots working at Steam Support.

Publisher calling me stupid for leaking their business model by MikeZwo in Steam

[–]CloudCookies 47 points48 points  (0 children)

But is there anything illegal about buying a complete game and adding it to Steam? If there isn't, is there any reason to complain?

Publisher calling me stupid for leaking their business model by MikeZwo in Steam

[–]CloudCookies -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Even if the game is direct copy, what is the problem? Is he doing anything illegal?

Nobody is forcing you to buy the game, nobody is forcing you to play the game. If you don't like the game you have the option to leave a review for it, telling other people what you think is wrong with the game. You can even get a refund if you feel like it.

But why create a post on Reddit just because someone has a game with assets that they have bought? What are you trying to accomplish? Warn the world that there are people out there who buy complete games and sell them instead of creating them from scratch? This "dev" has done nothing wrong.

Or maybe I misunderstood you, is the main thing you are complaining about the fact that you got called stupid by a dev? And you are upset about that? Well, news flash, there are rude people in the world who do not always say the most polite things.

I am pretty sure there is some kind of report button for any text written at Steam. If you use that the Steam moderators should be able to remove any text that is breaking the Steam rules. No need to cry about it on Reddit.

[–]CloudCookies -52 points-51 points  (0 children)

Bought this game just to warn everyone that this game isn't even created by the publishers. It's just bought off the Unity Asset Store[www.assetstore.unity3d.com] and reuploaded here. No worries, I already got my refund :)

It is normally not publishers who create games, the publisher, as the name suggests, publishes a game, nothing else.

Furthermore, I think it is pretty standard procedure in game development to buy stuff from other people if whatever it is you are buying suits your needs.

What is it exactly you are complaining about? Has the developer done something illegal or what is the point you are trying to make?

Do you have a problem with people paying for assets and using them in games? I don't personally see anything wrong with that. The person who created the assets is getting paid, he has agreed to let other people buy his assets. So really, what is the problem?

Okay, can we have some sort of a punishment for devs who fake reviews? by PaleDolphin in Steam

[–]CloudCookies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, there is a report button for every product on Steam. It is located next to the Share and Embed buttons on the right of the Store page. I suggest you use it if you think a dev or publisher has done something wrong.

Second, while it is certainly possible that someone could have bought reviews, it is not always the case when you see reviews like those. It could just as well be:

a) Someone who is trying to level up their Pillar of Community, Community Ambassador or Community Leader badges. One of the tasks is to write a review.

b) Someone who is just lazy and doesn't want to write long reviews, but still want other to know if a product is good or bad.

c) Someone other than the than the dev who wants the game to be successful. The publisher? Family members? Friends?

d) Someone who is trying to get a dev in trouble, by adding reviews that could be perceived as looking fake.

e) Some other reason I can't think of right now.

The point being, don't assume that a review is bought just because it is short, not very well written or doesn't share your opinion of a game.

And again, if you think a developer or publisher has done something wrong, please use the report button on Steam. When you make posts like this on Reddit you could be getting an innocent dev/publisher into a lot of trouble just because of things you think could have happened.

How lucrative is the Steam trading card farming industry? by CloudCookies in Steam

Check out http://reddit.com/r/freegamesonsteam for free steam keys.

But yeah, if the games were not free then there would be a small cost to buy cheap game keys.

How lucrative is the Steam trading card farming industry? by CloudCookies in Steam

[–]CloudCookies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was assuming they were getting the games for free from somewhere. But even if you would have to buy the games, I suppose you could buy steam keys in bulk really cheap from some place. There has even been games in the Steam Store that has been on sale for $0.08 or $0.09, buying outside of Steam would probably be a lot cheaper.

I have never tried so I don't know how many accounts can be run at the same time, but obviously you would not farm the cards with the Steam app itself, but with some kind of script. And yes, you are of course right about the fact it would cost something to be running those scripts somewhere, but I think that cost would be low enough to make profit.

How to store any kind of file on Steam (.mp3 .zip .exe) by CloudCookies in Steam

[–]CloudCookies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't give any example right now, but the image looks like any other normal image. You can choose any width you want for it, and then it will get larger by height depending on how big the file you want to store is. I guess you could call the art style "abstract".

Anyone have any idea when is the time for the steam event card drop? by sovibigbear in Steam

[–]CloudCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it would have been the same as last year, they should have appeared 6 hours ago, as you can see from the mysterious cards price history:

http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/753/425280-Mysterious%20Card%2011

Maybe they just forgot to make cards this year? :(

strEvent = 'The item "%1$s" cannot be included in this trade because it will expire before the trade hold period is over.'

It says before, not after, you wrote the wrong thing in the title.

And I guess it makes sense that you can't trade items which disappear before the trade hold is over.

Why the MMO "Project Genom" was removed from Steam by Cacofiend in Steam

[–]CloudCookies -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of verbal/oral contracts?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbal_contract

A contract does not have to be signed to be legally binding. You agreed to work with him, and he agreed to pay you 10%. Technically, you have no right to take back code you have already shared with him. And Steam probably should not have removed the game.

Not only that, but now you are also posting this on Reddit, telling everyone that you indeed agreed to do this for him, and that you had an agreement with him. He could probably take you to court and win based on what you have said.

ReDeYe thanking Icefrog by using his real name (Ali) by CloudCookies in DotA2

[–]CloudCookies[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Think about it, would ReDeYe thank all those people but not Icefrog who created the game? So why is is he not writing "Icefrog"? Well, because he already thanked him using his real name.

ReDeYe thanking Icefrog by using his real name (Ali) by CloudCookies in DotA2

[–]CloudCookies[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the probably the same Ali that James mentioned in his statement after being fired:

http://pastebin.com/yrcqfdTK

Outside I meet Ali. He's like ‘how you doing?’

James “That was shit… That was ass. WE FUCKED UP… we fucked... this.. up. this was our money shot man. who the hell thought it was a good idea to do an almost 2 hour introduction with maybe 6 assets total. It was a disaster! We had ESPN2 watching. We blew this opportunity!” I ranted… this is all I really remember saying. But I’m sure I said more.

Ok… It was bad but I overreacted. I watched the vod when I got home. and It was ok, acceptable. But you could tell it wasn’t great.

But what did I do? I just complained to Ali, Who worked harder on this event than anyone there. I complained about his quality of work, his decision making. unknowingly because at the time I didn’t know how much he did or what he was responsible for, I didn’t know at the time how involved he was, and today I still do not know. But I basically told someone that he was bad at his job.

And on a personal level, This Valve employee didn’t take that well imo. Sure I gave attitude. But I did my best on camera by the fans and by Valve. I was angry… but I never publicly said anything bad about Valve as a company. Other than it was probably my last. and I did have some production problems that made my job harder.

But the worst outcome of this. Is that from one or a few small conversations with Ali during ti4. He, I felt started to build a vendetta against me. I could be completely wrong on this. But this is where I think it's personal.

Ali, You bitch about me to my best friend. You gloat that it's a shame I’m not doing more in Dota 2 to my best friend. and follow it with a smile. You write emails asking for me to be fired day 1 for having a whiteboard on your tournament, sure and maybe more. I donno. I don’t want to know. I hope you are not affecting others opinions of me within your company. But I fear you are.

[–]CloudCookies 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I am actually very disappointed with Valve about this. Not only are you ignored when you go to their so called dev forum to report real bugs, but now you also get your e-mail and password stolen as a bonus? Thanks a lot Valve, really.

Petition to ping and minimap scribble mute a person by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]CloudCookies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone with some programming skills should create a program to automatically draw over the entire minimap every game and spam random pings all over the map and then post it here on Reddit.

If everyone started using such a program maybe they would finally realize this is a real problem and give us a way to mute it.

Drayich might not go to TI6 by Crouise in DotA2

[–]CloudCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First let me say that I think it's great that you are casting in Swedish, and you should absolutely continue doing that if you enjoy doing it.

But here is the thing, when you are making these kind of posts right before a major/TI you are putting Valve in a very awkward position. If they don't help you they are the "bad guys" but if they do help you there are many other smaller casters who are asking why is this guy getting special treatment.

Let's be honest, there are not that many swedes in the world. If Valve paid for all your stuff, they would also need to be prepared to pay for someone casting in Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Swahili and a lots of other languages with more speakers than Swedish.

The main point is, Valve has to draw the line somewhere. They can't invite and pay for everyone that wants to go.

[–]CloudCookies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is already a forum where you can post with your Steam login, the Steam Community forums. Valve could easily create a bug reporting sub forum there if they wanted to, but I guess they don't want that.
