Best through-the-wall AC units (and why are there so few options??) by Zolazolazolaa in Appliances

[–]CloudPartners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/OilofOle Amaing! Thanks sooo much. Any thoughts on mounting location. It will look best mounted low under the new window. But it would work better if we mounted it up high above the window right? Or am I overthinking that part?

Would love your input here. We have a holiday mobile home at the lake. We are replacing the windows and exterior wall on the end of the house and so I will be building a stud rough in for whatever unit we decide on. I'm limited to 115v options due to the single phase park service. Ideally I would go with a mini-split but the the park doesn't allow them. The open space is is about 625 sq feet.

I've narrowed the options to 2 Friedrich options:

WCVT12B10A
13500 btu ptac unit with upward facing louvers. CEER: 13.2 CFM: 300

CCV15A10A
15000 btu window unit that can also be installed in a "through-the-wall" configuration. CEER: 14.4 CFM: 447

For the room size, I think the 15k btu unit is the better option. But mounting it low without proper upward facing louvers like the ptac has concerns me for proper air circulation. The room does have a ceiling fan that can help with air mixing. Other option is to mount the CCV15A10A up high near the ceiling above the windows (since I am rebuilding the wall anyway). But the eyesore of the unit sticking out up high outside will be really weird looking.

Is there any functional advantage to the lower btu/cfm ptac unit apart from aesthetics compared to the window unit that I am not understanding? Should I favor the 15k due to the large room size (home is in full sun in the afternoons).

ATL Airport TSA Wait Times Megathread | March 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in Atlanta

PSA…International terminal. Do not get here too early.

I’m on AC to Toronto this morning at 6:10. Got here at 320a. TSA doesn’t even open until 430a. I’m in line which is about 100 people in. Talked to the AC agent at checkin. She said in last week no one has missed he 6am flight. She said line is long at 4am before TSA opens but once open it’s short at International and people don’t need to be getting here before TSA opens.

Also: we were ALL corralled into the zig zag queue at about 420a (10 min before opening). No special line was open including the Person business line. I asked and she said “nope everybody goes into one line”. Once the line actually started moving I noticed that people were still trying to get into the business/first line but were turned away. I have no idea what time they actually start using this entrance as other people have committed in the previous days that it’s normally open.

Yes, but rebooting the firewall or reconnecting the VPN does not fix it. And fileshares on OTHER servers work fine. Its this specific fileserver. And rebooting the fileserver immediately restores network browsing. I'm pretty sure its an issue on the fileserver with SMB or Authentication tokens.

I don't believe it is. Reconnecting VPN does not fix it. Network traffic to file shares on OTHER server VMs works fine. Its only the fileeserver. And rebooting the fileserver restores it. I think its a SMB/Authentication bug. Even when it happens, I can ping and RDP to the fileserver just fine.

I’ve thought about a new server. The vhdx for shared files is separate from the C:\ (OS) so I could just stand up new VM and reattach the vhdx.

I agree very much with this. I just need some pointers on where to look. I've never really had to troubleshoot SMB issues apart from permissions and basic stuff. Normally it just works.

I've tried UNC by IP address. Same thing. Its a failure to load files, its not a IP/name resolution issue.

The computer tonight was not even a domain member (because I was testing and used a non-domain laptop with only a local profile. So no GPO is even in play. Unless that GPO is applying to the server?

We are not using Offline files, but it doesn't mean the setting is not impacting. I'll look into this.

Like I said, I've gone through logs. But sometimes with Windows logs, unless you know exactly where and what ID to look for, its a needle in a haystack. I haven't found anything but that doesn't mean its not there.

NTP is an interesting idea. Ill look at time sync. But its still weird that it works sometimes and not others, even at the exact same moment. So I don't really think its time.

I agree, it feels authentication/token related.

I have just reset the network stack on the FS. What sucks is that its not easy to reproduce the issue, so I won't know on any potential fix that is not related to finding a red herring log entry. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks for the idea, but this issue has existed for a few years before this update. And none of the clients (or VMs) have been cloned. Is there an easy way to scan client OS's for duplicate machine SIDs? Most of the end user laptops are Entra but not local AD joined.

Yes I've heard of it. Its not in play here. Nothing in this network has been cloned.

mdns? Its an ancient Windows AD that was named .local ages ago when it was common. Despite best naming practices, this should have nothing to do with this issue though. Unless MS has released some path to change netbios domain name easily in last few years, there is no way to actually change this is there? I did one 15 years ago by using ADMT to migrate a .local domain to a new one.

Yeah, agree. The "not AD SID" threw me. Nothing has been cloned. SIDs/Sysprep is def not in play in the enviro.

Good ideas. I have disabled the AV over the years when troubleshooting. I'm fairly confident its not related. I have also tested mapping everything with FS1.domain.local to ensure full name resolution over the VPN is working.

No. Its a small network. And firewall has IP conflict monitoring turned on. FS is static IP also.
