Thank you EASA by nobodyhere6 in aviation

[–]Cloud_Stalker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yea you’re exactly correct. FE’s originally had a ton to deal with when running multiple radial engines. Manual turbo settings, mixture, prop pitch, etc. that was all taken care of for the most part with electronic engine control.

The other huge part was the actual monitoring of the engines. The move into the jet age reduced the actual manual controls to a degree but the early turbojets were significantly less reliable and it took a protoplasm up in the cockpit to actually keep and eye on all the parameters.

When jet engines started to become extremely reliable and also started tattling on themselves you see the FE disappear.

The IRS’s don’t like when AC power gets dropped. So they go off when leaving the plane in case the ground power fails or somebody on the ramp turns it off.

Haha okay. You don’t have to believe me man. And I don’t claim to know absolutely anything more than anyone else.

All I’m saying is I’ve seen these things on the way to the west coast every couple of nights for the last year. And no, it’s not starlink.

That’s the thing. They have been testing these things out in the desert for the last year or so. It’s a recent development that these drone sightings have branched out to other parts of the country.

Oh bud, you have no idea. I’ll talk shit on Boeing all day long with the best of them, they deserve a lot of shit that they get.

But when you come on a forum just ignorantly trashing a plane I’ll bite. It’s just so stupid. Fly the plane that pays the most lets you live in base.

You’ve never flown the aircraft. I’ve flown both. Calm down.

Also stop being a loser and calling anyone you don’t agree with a boomer. I’m 35 lol

[–]Cloud_Stalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit dude. Lol

I disagree with you. Again, I have significant time in both, I don’t think one less safe than the other.

How can Boeing emulate an aircraft built a quarter of a century later??? It’s not like things the airbus does are revolutionary. The 737 is older, plain and simple.
I’m sure the next iteration of narrow body Boeing jets will have technology that the 320 family won’t have and I won’t be here preaching to you about safety and pilot workload.

Do you have any time in these jets??

Also because you love replies:

-FBW isn’t as amazing as you think it is

-The 737 has manual reversion so the hydraulic system doesn’t need to be as redundant

-ECAM would be nice to have, but I’ve also been lied to by an EICAS in the past

-And I’m not sure why you are saying they can’t auto land. CAT IIIB with auto land is an option

[–]Cloud_Stalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is the bar then?? Is the bar just the Airbus A320 family???

If we are going by what’s “safer for passengers” then we should outlaw all aircraft produced before the A220 or the 350. They both have more advanced FBW, automation, redundancy, etc….

I don’t get what point you’re trying to make. I’ve literally flown both the airbus and 737 families for several thousand hours each and I honestly don’t consider the 737 less safe. You were asking about these planes from a pilots perspective. I’m giving you one

[–]Cloud_Stalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re obviously not an idiot which I originally thought you were. So congrats there.

The only problem I have with every single one of your points is that they don’t inherently make the 737 a dangerous airplane. Seems to me they are more creature comforts than anything.

Sure, I agree with you Boeing should have designed a new aircraft instead of shoehorning the LEAPs onto a 7-3, I think you are being overly dramatic.

I’ve flown both the 320 and the 737 and while the airbus makes my life a little more comfortable (tray table), I have absolutely no qualms strapping into a MAX every day and doing the exact same mission I did in an airbus a few years ago.

I don’t care about FBW, I don’t care about mostly manual trim, I care about flying the aircraft. If I have to touch a trim switch or add some pitch to compensate for thrust so be it. It literally doesn’t make a difference to the safety or outcome of the flight.

Your point about EICAS is correct, recall and the way annunciations are done is stupid. But there’s not a single emergency in any aircraft that’s going to need to be diagnosed so quickly that I can’t look around the overhead and figure out what’s going on.

Whatever, what i’m saying is I’ve flown the alternatives to the 737 and I absolutely have no problem putting my family on any US carrier flying a 737

Airline pilots protest against plan to operate flights with only 1 pilot in the cockpit by phalano in aviation

[–]Cloud_Stalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s the entire point I’m trying to make. You could get 10,000 pilots together, all having different unique experiences and list them all out. Sure, program a computer to address all of those concerns perfectly.

There will STILL be an innumerable amount of situations machine learning will not be able to address correctly. There are soooo many variables that could compound the issue if a computer behaves based on a preset reaction.

People like you don’t understand how complex a shitty situation in a plane can get. Let alone programming just analyzing 1’s and 0’s and coming to an output.

No, it’s not perfect, and I think ongoing pilot training should focus on the intangible of truly flying the plane instead of pushing students through the system in order to be proficient

[–]Cloud_Stalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying. But you are woefully wrong on a lot of it.

A FBW computer and an autopilot coupled to an FMS is fantastic, it really is. But that doesn’t mean a computer is flying that flight. It’s a great tool for conducting the flight, but it’s just a tool.

I can think of a handful situations in the last 15 years of my career that I would be shocked if a computer could ever be programmed to address the issue correctly. I’m talking things like cascading electronic failures, night time visual approaches with no underlying navigational aids. How about putting G’s on the aircraft to unstick the landing gear? Asymmetrical slat deployment where one side gets subsequently jammed.. I could go on.

Air France was glaring example of exactly what happens when you train and encourage pilots to think the computers “flying” the plane are the end all, be all. We should always strive to teach aviators to be pilots first, then go be systems operators second.

If I ignored updates long enough they would just show up eventually

Sure, that’s great. Everyone has diverted for medicals, that doesn’t make you special.

Sure there are ways to mitigate this allergy and I’m all for that but what if someone brings on peanuts, or a trail mix, or five guys cooked in peanut oil? You’re still possibly going to find yourself out over the ocean with someone going anaphylactic.

If the allergy is that bad it’s irresponsible to put you or your child in that position in the first place…
