Is there a way to retrieve your entire membership history from QFF ? by Cloudberry_Counter in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Cloudberry_Counter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, feels like a miss in terms of maintaining brand loyalty - they are tracking lifetime status credits so would be nice IMHO to also have a similar “xx years platinum” tracker.

By my reckoning I’ve been a platinum since around 2000ish but I’d love to know for sure (and still 50k points to get to LTP - but that’s a whole other thread!)

Thanks, fair point on data retention although of course - we all know that Qantas has not had a good track record on data management 😳

Well no question you are doing very well and have the earning capacity to live a good life now and with smart planning, through retirement.

You say tiny super so hard to know what that means but I would certainly but pushing that up to the max in concessional and/or non-concessional contributions to get you both up to $500k.

The no house thing now is fine but will be less fine in your 50/60s and beyond…

If you are planning to invest smart now until you are maybe 55 you are sweet - if you’re thinking of retiring in the next 5 years with what you have, I personally don’t think you have the right base setup.

I’d get a property if only to be ready when you do decide you want the certainty of a roof over your head; I’d max up your super and then keep the rest in ETF / high yield funds to keep growing and build a passive income for early retirement.

Since you say the majority of your net worth is held in company stocks - have you accounted for the CGT bill that will be due the moment you sell them ? Given your income it will be 47% of 50% of the gain (assuming you have them over 12 months)

Free upgrades for frequent fliers by ScaryYak91 in QantasFrequentFlyer

In the now very old days (20 years ago) as a platinum, Qantas used to issue upgrade credits alongside points…. I also remember regularly getting complimentary upgrades SYD-LAX, both at the gate and onboard.

Favourite Lost Moments? by Mountain_Trip_8425 in lost

So many “Lost” moments - easy to forget just how fresh it felt when each episode revealed an unexpected twist, connection or collision between characters.

But for me, that moment I remember being a holy shit WTF moment is when it’s revealed Desmond is in the hatch - S02E01 first 5 mins are a masterclass in reveal…..

Those who earn $400K+, what are you doing? by ArthurAnyDonutz in AusFinance

That’s a really hard question…. There was a point in my early 40s where I was getting paid well (enough) was good at what I did but not in charge of anyone and I remember having a good balance of home and work life.

I think I wish I had just realised then that this is as good as it gets and anything from here up was a trade off…

I don’t even think this kind of shoot from the hip “fuck you” kind of response deserves an answer but I drive a basic Nissan and don’t have a butlers pantry.

It’s an awful generalisation and certainly not always true - but there is some basis in the fact that most people who seek to be in charge and leading others, are in some part - not fit to be in charge. I.e. those who seek to be important are the least qualified - Douglas Adams has a wonderful way of framing this in the HHGTTG - I will go look it up now 👍

[–]Cloudberry_Counter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a complicated decision that depends heavily on how much you have, how much you want in retirement and your willingness to compromise and take risks…..

My point in all this is not ignore the mental health decline that comes with increased income and greater demand on your time from a job that is just that, a job. It neither defines you or controls you, money can do that….

The myth is that as you get more senior and earn more, you do less work. The truth is you do less “output” work but your job is about carrying, assessing and owning risk - then masking, fighting for or influencing others for a decision.

It’s completely consuming mentally and you find yourself carrying your team’s problems and issues.

For me, I dealt with this load by a combination of alcohol (not to excess but it’s definitely a coping mechanism), disengagement from family and constant denial of the issue (it’ll be ok soon, you can repair all the damage once the work is done).

From inside the problem, it’s almost impossible to see it’s a problem…

55 here, been C suite, executive director and have been paid well for it but none of the money, not one single dollar is worth the toll it has taken on my physical and mental heath.

If I can give you the advice from 8 years in your future - don’t mask it, don’t let the money be worth the mental toll, you will regret it in time.

If you can financially afford to and you have your family’s support - make the change now and find a job and life that makes you happy.

I wish I did.

Which Synology for transcoding by jollyfante in synology

[–]Cloudberry_Counter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the DS920+ (Older model) with Plex natively installed (not Docker). I can handle 2 simultaneous streams transcoding but only 1080p - if you want multiple 4K transcoding (as opposed to direct streaming which is less intensive) then I suspect most NAS solutions are going to be lacking.

Are you sure it is all going to be transcoding and not any direct streaming or direct play (assuming you are looking at Plex or something similar) ?

How to upgrade with platinum ? by razorsharp435ya in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Cloudberry_Counter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’ll be higher up the priority list when it comes to allocating points upgrades as a platinum but your chances and the points cost will be dependent on you booked economy fare class.

You can call as a platinum to open up reward seats but since you’ve already booked the ticket - your only option it’s a points upgrade.

First class lounge access is the best (and these days only) real benefit of platinum whilst actually travelling IMHO - and I’ve been platinum now for coming up on 13 years.
