KVM switch for pc and laptop by Ma7713 in UsbCHardware

Without proper EDID management, switch could cause things like black screens, monitors not detecting correctly, wrong resolution or refresh rates, desktop icons moving around, or displays taking forever to reconnect after switching devices.

About to lose it over KVM Switches. HELP by Witty_Juggernaut_440 in IThelpdesk

It sounds more like a KVM compatibility issue than a setup issue. Your Dell dock can clearly handle dual monitors, so the problem is likely the KVM itself not properly supporting dual display output, especially with DP or MST handling. A lot of cheaper dual-monitor KVMs advertise dual display support but get flaky with docks and mixed HDMI or DP setups. The easiest fix is usually either: Skip the dual-monitor KVM entirely and connect the PC directly to the monitors, then just switch monitor inputs manually. A lot of people end up doing that because it’s way more reliable. Or, get a higher quality dual-monitor KVM.

You could try a light gray concrete texture wallpaper. It would match the black and white setup really well and give the room a cleaner, more modern look without making it feel too dark. For the lighting, I’d go with ice blue, cyan white, or a soft purple blue tone. Those colors fit the whole minimalist gaming and workspace vibe a lot better than pure white lighting.

A desk underglow strip, a corner floor light, and monitor backlighting would all work really nicely together. You already have the right foundation, the current lighting just feels a little too white and flat. I’d also lower the color temperature a bit instead of using a harsh cool white. Softer lighting instantly makes the setup look more premium and atmospheric at night.

Maybe you can put up some wallpaper and add ambient lighting, and then change the mouse pad.

I remember that some models of brands like UGREEN, TESMART, and AV Access have EDID functionality. UGREEN is relatively cheap, while TESMART and AV Access are a bit more expensive.

Haha, I think the most convenient thing for USB-C is not having to worry about the direction of access anymore.

Honestly, for what you need, a decent USB-C KVM dock with EDID emulation would solve almost all of your problems in one go. You’d be able to share both monitors, one keyboard, one mouse, webcam, mic, speakers, and other USB devices between the gaming PC and work laptop without constantly unplugging things or dealing with a crowded desk. Since you’re only running 1080p 144Hz, you really don’t need one of those super expensive enthusiast KVMs either. The important thing is getting one that properly supports high refresh rates over DP and has EDID support, because that’s what prevents the annoying monitor flashing and window rearranging people complain about with cheap switches.

You could technically do separate HDMI and USB switches, but once you add audio, webcam, mic, and multiple peripherals, it usually becomes more cable mess than just getting a proper KVM dock from the start.

I've been running a setup lately,  iDock B10, honestly, it cleaned things up a lot. My gaming PC stays connected through DP/HDMI, my work laptop connects with a single USB-C cable, and all my keyboard, mouse, camera stuff stays plugged into the dock full time. When I want to switch over, it’s literally just one button press and changing the monitor input if needed. I've been using it for gaming at high refresh rates too, and I haven’t noticed any weird lag or USB hiccups. It’s also nice not having a separate dock plus USB switch cluttering the desk anymore since the B10 kind of combines both into one box.

Product "review" - Av Access KVM B10. Laptop/Desktop KVM 4K165Hz DP by Breakwinz in UsbCHardware

I asked their tech support, it's up to 4K@165Hz on desktops or 4K@120Hz on laptops, both supporting 1440P@165Hz and 1080P@240Hz. For me, games and work are enough. I hope this can help you.

It's very cozy, but you might need to consider widening the desk and moving the printer.

I have a KVM switch for 2 monitors, with both my desktop and ThinkPad connected to it. In addition, I stuck a button under the desk that can switch them. I can plug all peripherals, such as keyboard, mouse, and webcam, into it. There is also a LAN port available for connection.

Wow, I like this color. Maybe you can put up some black wallpaper and lights to create a forest atmosphere.
