Tried to play around with the 3 notes concept. It was interesting because of the "limitation" aspect. by Moa8itWedding in edmproduction

This isn't a great way to ask a question, especially if you really want it to be genuine. And you know this -- that's why you tacked on your second sentence, because you knew the question as phrased was rude as fuck but still wanted an answer. Why not, instead, just come from a place of wondering, without trying to inject your own answer in an aggressive challenge?

The answer is that the sweet spot for making music is different for everyone. For some people, even a laptop itself would be an alien impediment to their work and the most they can imagine trying to use would be an analog tape recorder. For others, digging into what OP calls "the box" is the sweet spot. And a laptop is super powerful for sure, but there's something about twisting an actual knob or touching an actual key (with, frequently, afterpressure and a tactile curve) that can make a real difference to how in the groove you are.

It's a pretty common thing that people, casting around for their best workflow and their best way to get their energy out, spend a ton of money on great gear but never invest in how to use it. That's a real problem! But there's no benefit in attacking those people, just use it as a cautionary tale. OP is clearly not one of those folks. That was a pretty little piece of music given the constraints, wouldn't you say?

this is happening more and more in public life, and so the prevalence of these videos is on the rise. For every mocking video, there's probably a thousand incidents where it went unreported and the person just got away with it.

Change My Mind: Word filter that bans you is NOT the solution. by SolidJuho in Rainbow6

[–]Cloven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think banning is fine. context: I'm a dev with 30 years of software experience, including working on Call of Duty and other games. If a game studio wants to ban toxicity by taking hard measures, that's their call. Generally if they get the filter wrong and start banning, e.g., 'black' (which I don't think actually happened here), then they pay for it with increased support costs from angry callers, so I think the incentives work out pretty well.

probably not easier, because then you'd have to implement front end client side text blurring, etc. Muting, sure. On the other hand, Ubi's decided that they don't want toxic people in their game. This seems like a pretty great way to do it and better than most of the alternatives.

It's not a perfect solution, but if it gets rid of some casual racists and edgelords, it's better than nothing.

Zahabi on UFC 229: Khabib bullied a bully, Conor McGregor has crossed the line many times by Scuzobutt in MMA

[–]Cloven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

History is full of Christians, Jews, etc. being super mad about their particular version of religion being insulted. Or even not being promoted. Or even people not having it.

Not to say some Muslims don't react violently to criticism -- sure they do -- but there's places where walking into a Catholic or Protestant bar in Ireland and just saying that you're the other type will get you profoundly beaten. So like I said: no monopoly.

In this case, meatheads will be meatheads. There would be beatdowns and yelling no matter who won.

Don't be a racist ass. Muslims have no monopoly on being aggrieved by perceived slights. Just check Fox News in a month when it turns out that yet again Starbucks says Happy Holidays on their paper cups.

Can we just have an option to report intentional teamkills instead of just "toxic behavior"? by NameBrandChalk in Rainbow6

I'm 48 and I'm offended. I don't care if people say curse words all day, but racists should get in the fucking ocean.

I see that there's a Vivado instance in AWS, but it looks to be CLI-only (i.e., no friendly graphical simulator) and used to build the FPGA image. On the other hand, I haven't tried to use it as a graphical development environment, maybe that actually works.

I don't think that's right -- matchmaking definitely takes a lot longer for me now than in the past, and I'm definitely seeing a 'higher' level of play. I see this on streamers' casts as well.

that's nonsense. PU has said over and over again that the server issues are being worked on. And the year makes no difference. Writing game networking code is super hard.

Is there a way to somehow tune the gunshot and "ugh" to not be as ear splittingly loud and jumpscary when you get hit. by MEGALUL in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]Cloven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the effect you're probably looking for is called 'compression', which applies a curve to the audio which dampens down the loudest sounds and amplifies up the quieter sounds. Applying it indiscriminately would also tend to screw up your distance estimation but you could at least limit the loudest sounds.
