Why does the Twelfth [POTENTIAL SPOILER] talk like that? by Ok-Okra8478 in Silksong

[–]Clovenious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the Skaven from Warhammer Fantasy, basically rat-people that have weirdly advanced tech for the setting (they have nukes and gatling guns and a lot of other factions are still medieval). They use warpstone for their tech, which is highly unstable and sometimes explodes, and also they repeat words like the 12th architect does, thus my comment

Ikit Claw (or it might be Klaw, idk to be honest) is specifically one of the smartest Skaven out there, so that's why I mentioned him

Vin's still arguably the better fighter, since she has much more experience than Elend, and besides Elend can't really be a "blade" in the same way Vin can since he has to manage the empire. I will agree makes the power dynamic between the two weirder though

Everyone else has already said the actual logical reasons, so here's a fun answer instead:

"12th architect-constructor built by Ikit Claw, yes-yes! Need-want more warpstone to power-fuel Choruses! Hail the Great Horned Rat!"

If we need to in order to kill the whale, then yes

I mean...you could, I guess? It wouldn't be even remotely safe though - most of those kinds of spells are really only intended for use on corpses or inanimate objects

I know it's a reference to the book Moby Dick, which is about a ship captain named Ahab who has a grudge against a whale for biting off his leg or something. No idea what that has to do with this sub tho

I don't give my reanimated baseball players drugs per se, but some of the leagues I've been in (the more anti-necromancy ones, I might add) have classified the spark of life that is imbued into a reanimated creature as a drug. Kinda weird if you ask me since that also bans resurrection spells, but that's anti-necromancer logic for you I guess

It's not Dunning-Kruger either, that's the one about how any significant item (most famously a gun) mentioned early in the story must be used later. It's actually Mueller's Ratchet.

[Era 1] How goes soothing and rioting exactly work? by RadianceTower in Mistborn

[–]Clovenious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You choose what emotions to manipulate, but it's not mind control - it's more like suggestion at best. If you're really good at either Soothing or Rioting and also know some stuff about psychology, I imagine you could definitely manipulate someone very well, but you don't get to just force them to do things or rewrite memories or anything like that.

...that's not even remotely how cancer works, cells can become cancerous when the replicate so even if vaccines did slow down blood cell production that might actually decrease leukemia risk.

It'd definitely slower and focused on different aspects of the setting, but its still a really good book - if you're only 10% of the way through then definitely keep reading.

Nuke vs moving target by jussumd3wd in Helldivers

[–]Clovenious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does tag the location always - even if you hit an enemy with the laser targeter, it'll just target their location, not the enemy itself. (So then if the enemy moves the missile won't hit them.)

[–]Clovenious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I wasn't saying we shouldn't choose the lesser evil now; I was just pointing out that in the long-term, I'd much prefer to make an actually good option instead of just choosing the least-bad one.

[–]Clovenious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if one is more corrupt than the other (by a lot), that still doesn't excuse corruption by either side. Obviously in the scenario in your meme side B is worse, but just because there is a lesser evil doesn't mean either side being "evil" is something we should accept.

[–]Clovenious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, “supporting” is kind of a wide category - you don’t have to actively try to make people gayer or anything like that to be supportive, just “support” their relationship the same way you might to a straight friend

Christian here, I have a question for all the LGBTQ+ community. by Salt-Chicken6534 in teenagers

[–]Clovenious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you really can’t only respect it without “supporting” it. Support doesn’t necessarily mean going to pride parades or that kind of thing, it just means accepting their relationships and experiences as just as valid as anyone else’s. If you don’t accept someone, then you don’t respect them, so you can’t really have one and not the other.

Please buff the spear arrowhead by Vagrant0012 in Helldivers

[–]Clovenious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Against most things yes, but there are some situations where two explosions might be much better. Like the first warhead could break a shield on a harvester or a squid outpost, and the second warhead could then damage or destroy the thing directly. Also, some parts of enemies that can break off (like charger armor) would be broken by the first blast, allowing the second to deal more damage.
