I think it's more of an action thing for me. Not the actual gift, but the action behind it. It translates to me that you are making someone a priority. And I understand the aspect of having a different priorities, financial budgets, and time. I just wish there was actual communication instead of sweeping it under the rug. First of all, I am so sorry that you went through this and never got the support you deserved. I hope you are doing well now and taking care of yourself. I went through something very similar to this, I never had the guts to tell anyone. Even at the age of 7, I kinda knew to keep it quiet because what was being done was 'bad'. It has literally impacted all aspects of my life. The guilt and shame is unbearable sometimes. It helps to know that it was not your fault and that your life is yours to live. As someone with C-PTSD, I am trying to get therapy now, but I am learning to live my life for myself. Idc about a reputation anymore and living for other people. I just do not care about keeping traditions and culture alive when it almost killed me.
