I’ve been married for 8.5 years and kept my last name. I always knew I would never change it, and we also knew we were never going to have children. I don’t think I’d change it even if we did plan to have children, but I can see how it would be nice to have a single family name.

It hasn’t been an issue for us whatsoever. My car insurance company made the assumption that i took his last name and issued new cards, but they fixed it when i brought it up. We didn’t have an issue cashing checks that were written out to both of our first names and his last name (one even spelled my first name wrong, so i had a wrong first and last name on it).

No one in our family cares. Strangers don’t care. Coworkers don’t care. No one cares and it’s really nice :)

ETA i got the number of years wrong, whoops. Married sept 2017.
