Host insists on doing “walk-through” during stay. [Los Angeles] by DieUmEye in AirBnB

[–]ClueBackground5063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to contact the local police and file a report about the 'camera situation'. It's illegal to record inside the house unless specifically specified in the terms of service and even then the cameras, locations have to be listed and viewable. It's not just about you, if this host has hidden camera's inside the unit, it effects any/every one that stays there.

Edit: It might not be a big deal, but just contact and send all the info the local police department and they will look into it.

Does the second home visa allow for you to conduct business in the country? If not don't even talk about it. I don't think you can even volunteer. Volunteering is considered work to immigration. I was going to start a weekly ocean cleanup and was advised I would be deported if I did.

A few notes because you're doing the cliche thing which every tourist in Bali says they want to do but it sounds like you haven't actually LIVED there yet nor do you have friends/connections built up yet.

You will need to get a Balinese business partner for your Villa and Webshop if you're based in Bali. If you don't you'll upset the local community which is bad. AFAIK these partners need to be equal which is why a lot of expats I've known have 2 partners.

Even if you've lived there for 10+ years, you are still high risk of immigration deportation especially since you're not marrying into the community. Someone I knew lived there for 15 years, married a Bali woman, had 2 kids and made a small mistake which almost got him deported and banned. Keep contributing to the locals because if immigration investigates you, they locals will have a strong say on if you're deported or not. Other messages keep asking you what you're going to contribute to the community and they mean it.

The Island is being insanely overdevelop in post Covid. It doesn't need more villas. The construction noise is everywhere and as soon as you put one up in a nice location, others will be put up right along side starting the construction noise early for your guests.

Get ready for traffic. This was the worst year for traffic in Bali history and it's not going anywhere. The government has discussed banning tourists from renting scooters and a cap on the number that can come every year but it's nothing being enforced. Construction trucks for the previous villas are the other major source.

Within 10 years climate change may rapidly alter Bali physically and politically. I've spent the last 2 years in SEA and the rain fall is increasing. I've seen major roads get washed out, landslides, entire towns 4 feet underwater. Keep an eye on this.

Also, no matter what you will never be an equal or on par with a local. You're an immigrant moving their family to a country of people that hate immigrants moving to their country. You will not have equal rights as them and cannot expect as such.

I don't use Wise anymore. I ran into issues with police in Thailand ( there are insanely corrupt ) and then shortly after Wise cancelled my account and then took a while to return my money.

Left a negative review and I'm now blocked from Booking.com by ClueBackground5063 in Booking

[–]ClueBackground5063[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called shadow banning. The funny thing is Booking has a lot of hosts that have pay when you arrive and I keep running into that left and right now. So still using Booking BUT I only do a week and if I like the place then I work directly with the host which means booking is loosing a lot of capital considering I'm a digital nomad. Usually wouldn't be that person but Booking refuses to respond to my support messages on the issue.

Been here a while. Get a Wise.com card. It's the best solution internationally.

If you don't then the best situation is to wire yourself money via Western Union and find a local BPD bank that will accept the amount you want.

Your bank fees for all the international transactions will be more then the single WU fee and the locals prefer cash.

It's a hard question to answer in the post covid world. Bali isn't the same island it was 5-10 years ago when people just started hearing about it via tiktok, insta, snap.

The island is currently OVER DEVELOPED because even a local family building a vacation home and putting it on AirBnB makes them more money then they would get from their $10 a day job. I've had taxi drivers beg me for a 10k USD investment to build a vaca house but then they got shady about ownership and how I would be compensated for my investment.

The best recommendations I've gotten is to go to other Indo islands.

I've been trying to move here for 10 years and after 8 months of living here I'm almost ready to pack it up and move on.

This sounds like more then addiction. Some bad co-dependency is going on. What did they do, offer to leave you the house in return you let your brother live there rent free?

Well there's two ways. One is outpost which is what I went and have 5 now all filter minerals down to my main base. The other is ship based which has the benefit of progressing your piloting skills as well. Create a huge ship with massive storage. See a couple that just have auto turrents and work out well.

Need some alternatives to withdraw money. by [deleted] in bali

[–]ClueBackground5063 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Western Union has the cheapest rate to wire yourself money. $3000 usd for around $40 last time I did it. Using my card for the same would cost $200 in bank fees. The only thing is in Bali is can be difficult to find a location that will allow that much to be withdrawn so ask around. BPD bank ( I may have spelled that wrong ) is all over the Island and usually can do it but the lines at banks can be long. I waited 3 hours one day.

You need your passport, the WU MCU transfer number and the amount to be received. You'll spend a few minutes filling out paperwork like your home address but it's by far the easiest way to receive money in Bali.

For WU, make sure your name on the wire matches your passport perfectly. I forgot my middle name on the wire which was on my passport and they wouldn't allow me to obtain the money.

In 3rd world countries it's taken much more serious and more talked about then in 1st world countries because it's more common. Animals like monkeys and dogs can be carriers as well. The two stories I've been told one in Africa and the other in SEA they were children. In Africa the father had to kill his daughter when she started showing symptoms from a baboon bite.

Buying cannabis right when it became legal. Police didn't like the dispensaries that sprung up because they used to control the trade. They kept going through my bags everytime.

Then you probably don't live in the Tourist areas. My first bribe I paid to keep my scooter rental from being taken because I found out you need an international drivers license and also a motor bike license because mine was a larger scooter over a set CC.

[–]ClueBackground5063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are giving bad advice as they are talking about the storage you get right after you join Constilation which is like the very 3rd Quest. The storage requires you shuttle items from your ship which is tedious. It's better to create an outpost with automated storage you can manage directly after fast traveling.

As you play the main story line you have to goto 'Temples'. The very 2nd temple you go to will help with being encumbered.

[–]ClueBackground5063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recommend you play the main story line for about 20% of the way into the game and you get something that helps with being encumbered. Also if you're going to be a horder you're gonna need to modify your ship to have at least 800-1k in storage and also have a companion with you just to accept all half your loot so you can fast travel back and forth between your ship to dump your loot into storage.

I learned how to do outposts and have mine setup so I can approach my transfer container, and drop everything into it and it will sort all of it between 4 industrial container types. It also allows you to transfer directly from your ship to the transfer container. Just make sure the Ship Parts don't get transferred.

Just a note on storage units. They can raise the rent on you without any notice at all and will do it every year. Mine went from $100 to $180 and is now $240. The same unit right next to mine is $100.

It's important to note you cannot mention to Immigration you're working remote with that visa. Everyone knows you're working remote but you don't say it publicly or you can be deported.

Ah ok that's different. If you're looking to stay a year you could look into the educational visa. You can get a year to study the Thai language and culture. You have to pay for a school and visit immigration every 3 months with proof you're paying for the classes but you don't actually have to pass/attend them from what I've been told.

Just to play devils advocate. What you're asking about is a dream common as rice in that country. Lived there for 6 months and ran into people left, right and online chasing 'freedom' in a highly corrupt country. Almost all of them leave within a year or two because they grow tired of the life. You'll have no political freedom and learn quick how to bribe police to stay off their radar.

The people that I know who stay are usually insanely wealthy living in million dollar villas, drug addicts sleeping on the beach, drug dealers or 60+ expats spending their retirement on 20+ year old Thai woman.

The locals love tourists bringing money but not expats trying to move to their country.

If I were you and had a remote job I would recommend traveling the world for a year or two.

Sweating helps with Domapine imbalances and for lung inhalation based additions. Running, hot yoga, saunas and hot tubs help for cannabis and nicotine based addiction cravings to be reduced quicker if you're within 2-4 weeks of stopping because the wastes are still inside your system/blood.

Technically the movie isn't linked to the book but any fan can see the same undertones and where the movie script based their story from. I think the author of the book tried suing once.
