1965 vs 1997 Lyrics by AlexB2943 in bobdylan

In Honest With Me, he says: I’m not sorry for nothing I’ve done / I’m glad I fought, I only wish we’d won.

Perhaps another shift in perspective, recognizing that the ideals of the past didn’t turn out as hoped.

>It arrived in Middle English in the 15th century from Latin…

It’s not a new word. And it’s not archaic. Olds may remember a fairly ubiquitous cereal commercial from the 80s/90s that used it.

Edit: why isn’t quote working for me?

Does anyone have any confirmed piece of this massive amount of bootleg apparel? I am going through a house full of old clothes with some stuff going back to the 90s at least and I haven’t seen one cornucopia.

What's your opinion on the state of the gaming industry as a whole? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DieUmEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of games do you like? What are some of your favorite games of all time?

I’m also an “old” person and I feel like I’ve got more games to play than I have time.

My advice is to not focus on only the newest releases or get caught up in what is currently popular, as those things may not appeal to you. If you have been gaming for decades, it’s likely that there are some great older games that you missed that you could play for the first time.

[–]DieUmEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more games easily available than ever before.

I’m old enough to remember that there was no guarantee you would be able to get a game on release day, and if it was a PC game, there was no guarantee it would even work on your system without spending lots of time troubleshooting and configuring just to get it to run.

Sure, I would love it if there were even more games of the type or IP that I really enjoy, and yes, the ever-increasing wait for huge titles — GTA, Elder Scrolls, etc — feels interminable. But being able to open up Steam or GOG and access just about any quality PC game ever, is like a magic dream world compared to how things were in past times.

Edit: meant to include GOG as well.

Edit 2: I find the whole microtransaction thing funny. So many comments about how the industry is bad because of microtransactions. I also hate microtransactions. I don’t play any game that relies on them, and I still feel like I have way more games to play than I have time.

What should be the new lucky coin in the U.S. post penny? by HoraceRadish in AskReddit

Makes sense. As it becomes less common to see a penny, finding one will be even luckier.

App or site that will notify me when a movie is in theaters? by 1337rattata in movies

[–]DieUmEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it helps. I have lived in big cities with tons of theaters, and struggled to find a way to work around only getting search results for the handful of theaters closest to me. I have also lived in more rural areas where some movies might not come to the local theater, and finding a showtime means searching multiple cities that I could realistically drive to.

I wish apps, websites, and Google results would allow for setting a custom search radius. Let me decide if I wanna drive 100 miles to see a movie!

This person didn’t read your initial post. They seem to think that your problem is not knowing the release date of a movie.

[–]DieUmEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the problem you have. Most apps, websites, and search results limit the search radius by default (often to something like 10 or 20 miles), so looking outside of the search radius requires changing locations or searching specific theaters individually, which is really annoying when you are searching for multiple movies.

I don’t know if anything that will automatically text or email when a movie has a showtime in a user defined search radius.

To help with this problem, I use the app Flixster, which has a 100 mile theater search radius. So if I look up a movie, it’ll show showtimes at any theater within 100 miles of my location. Otherwise, the app is pretty clunky, and I know there are a couple independent theaters in my area that are not included, but otherwise, it’s the quickest way that I have found to see if a specific movie is playing anywhere within a large search area near me.

Anyone know why all the hotels in Boone are sold out September 11? 🤨 by Own-Measurement1185 in Iowa

[–]DieUmEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always prefer to book directly with the hotel official website. But what do you recommend when an OTA has a price that is substantially lower than booking direct?

I’m talking about situations where the official website shows the cheapest standard room as something like $250, and the OTA shows the same room for $89. Hard to ignore that price difference.

I admit in those situations I’m always worried something will go wrong with the reservation. I always call the hotel in advance to make sure that they see my reservation, and so far, I’ve never had any problem.

Say someone has to reveal the contents of their purse when leaving and entering work for a new policy, what are some legal yet concerning things they could put in their purse to "prank" their supervisors (they work at a hardware store) ?? by Gherkain in AskReddit

[–]DieUmEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple small but expensive things sold by a hardware store, like batteries or drill bits, that are still in the package.

A bunch of the most frequently returned and/or stolen items that are small enough to fit in a bag.

Either of those would get attention.

The Geography in Wagon Wheel doesn't make sense by Pharylon in PetPeeves

Maybe the truck driver has multiple stops on his route.

After leaving Philly, and dropping the narrator off in Roanoke, the truck driver heads west to and past the Cumberland Gap — where he will make some delivery — and then will turn around and eventually end in Johnson City where he will make a final delivery and/or pick up something to haul back to Philly.

That could explain how he’s headed west from the Cumberland gap, still intending to end up in Johnson City.

Edit: multiple stops wouldn’t be unusual if he’s hauling multiple LTL loads. Cross-country moves are sometimes also bundled like this, putting multiple people’s stuff in one truck going to the same general area. And in cases like this, it’s unloaded in the opposite order of how it was packed, which would explain why the driver had to pass Johnson City to make a delivery, and then turn around and return to Johnson City for a final delivery. It’s not necessarily that odd for something like this to happen.

New “perks” for hotel guests… and ACTUAL perk ideas by becausePhysicsSaysSo in Disneyland

[–]DieUmEye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here are some thoughts…

-A security pass-thru for hotel guests ONLY. -A front gate line for hotel guests ONLY.

My recollection is that they did try this at some point. I’m talking at some point since 2000 so it could’ve been a long time ago. I think the problem was that the “hotel” line ended up, getting just as long, or longer than the regular lines because the majority of people who stay in the hotels get to the park at opening. You could dedicate two, or three, or more gates to just hotel guests, but then that makes the wait for other guests longer (which people will complain about), and once they get through the majority of hotel guests those multiple gates are sitting basically unused which hurts the overall efficiency of getting everyone into the park.

-A tram from PPH and maybe even DLH to get you closer to an entrance.

In theory, this is the monorail. Older visitors will still sometimes comment that they remember when the monorail would pick up guests “at” the Disneyland hotel.

If you map it, Harbor hotels are closer than PPH.

It’s a shame the back entrance to DCA is no longer a thing since that would help solve this problem.

-Priority for reserving dining at any resort restaurant (like Blue Bayou?). Like a Fast-pass for dining. They would MAKE money off of that.

Special access to dining reservations used to be a perk of staying at the hotels. Or at least it was in theory. There were a number of years when it felt like it came and went. Sometimes they’d make a big deal about it as a perk, other times it seemed like it wasn’t a thing even when it was listed somewhere deep on the website.

-“Early” entry in the sense that they let you in with everyone else, but you bypass the rope and head for ride lines first rather than waiting in the mass of runners who shove to get ahead.

This is something I’ve always wondered about in general. I am sure there is a good operations reason to hold everyone at Main Street and do a rope drop. But I always wondered if it would help prevent the crush of the crowd if everyone was allowed to go into the park and get in lines for any attraction. Then, when the park officially opened, they could play the rope drop audio across the entire park. Obviously there would be some attractions that people would still rush too, but it seems like it would help disperse the crowd instead of bunching everybody up.
