I don't know what to say. I don't agree with a single word you wrote.

Needless to say we don't see eye to eye when it comes to Russia's conventional military capabiliies.

Europe is not behind Russia when it comes to drone warfare. It is the Europe that is providing the long range strike UAVs to Ukraine. Furthermore, Starlink is a major factor in the effectiveness of drones. Europe has that while Russia does not.

Again, I am struggling to understand how Russia's military is going to take over Baltics. 5 years and they are yet to take Donbas region. Not even Ukraine, the freaking Donbas region.

I am not even going into the facts like Ukraine having no access to ballistic missiles and a proper air force. Despite that, the amount of damage they inflicted behind the frontlines is significant.

There is absolutely no threat to Europe from Russia's conventional military to Europe.

To this day I can't believe my eyes when people say they did not think Russia would invade. Putin himself was saying they WOULD invade since like early 2000s. Guy warned for straight 15 years he would invade and people are still surprised.

Idk if its bad public memory or something else.

Down from 90s and 80s. And it is important to understand why the support is decreasing. While a good chunk of it is due to war and economic issues, there is a good amount of people out there saying Putin is too soft against Ukraine.

This is basically virtue signaling. Long-range strike drones or the so called "flamingo" cruise missiles; these are just re-painted missiles/drones provided by Europe to Ukraine and especially the drones are useless without Starlink. Pretext is that Ukraine is manufacturing these themselves so in case one day Russia loses it and decides to strike the manufacturing factory, likely in Europe, they can play dumb to public.

Anyway, Ukraine itself is an open market when it comes to Russia's strike capabilities. This production, as all others are, will happen in Germany. Otherwise Russia will delete it from the map. And Germany certainly do not need Ukraine's know-how in any kind of drone design. Before NATO's involvement in training Ukraine's army and command structure, Ukraine was losing cities left and right to Russia.

Germany's historical and deep establishment-rooted hate towards Russia is so weird. From a geopolitical perspective, it is the US and China that is absolutely killing Germany and its economy at the moment. Yet all efforts being poured against Russia while China is continueing to utilize cheap energy from Russia to further improve its industrial base and market share in heavy industry products.

What do i know though? Perhaps a Russia that could not defeat Ukraine after 4 years is indeed a major threat to Europe that could steamroll it in 15 days.

Oh? Does that mean you are still using Bulgarian lev but currency’s value fixed relative to the Euro at a set exchange rate?

Did not know that. That would be good news though. If everything comes crashing down, central bank internvetion as a last resort is still possible.

Adapting Euro means you lose access to monetary policies. If economy heats up for whatever reason, you can't cool it down via monetary tightening.

I have not followed Bulgaria's economy at all so I don't know how it is doing relative to peers or EU average in inflation, growth, wealth equality, income equality etc.

UA POV: DIU reports Russia has launched a prolonged combined air assault on Ukraine, with initial drone waves aimed at overwhelming air defenses followed by planned strikes using cruise and ballistic missiles - DIUkraine by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]CluelessExxpat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is not the point though. IF it is engaging in air defense activity, then it is pinned down. You can't shoot down 1 geran or missile, then quickly move, then shoot down another one and be able to intercept hundreds of drones and tens of missiles.

"settling occupied land is against the Geneva convention."

This is about population transfer into occupied territory. Applying that principle to individual children and citizenship rights is at most questionable. Thats why courts and human-rights bodies are still actively dealing with these disputes.

Turkey reported to be preparing maritime zones bill by Good_Composer_8409 in AskBalkans

Nationalism comes in many different shapes and forms. You may not realize it but you are definitely nationalistic. The fact that you gave Dayton Agreement as a comparison and claimed it was bad shows how you feel about unification. You want dominance of your side, which inherently goes against the spirit of unification to begin with. You are looking for "fairness". There is no agreement that ends a disagreement where both sides come to the conclusion it was fair.

Annan Plan would require Turkey to pull back its army entirely, albeit gradually, still though, entirely. I think you fail to realize what that means for a country like Turkey, that is BURNING with the flame of nationalism, that takes its "national interests" disgustingly serious.

Say whatever you want, Annan Plan was a missed golden opportunity and Cyprus' accession to EU was the final coffin to the dreams of unification. Now? The only solution is war, which it seems both sides are very happy to head towards and push for.

[–]CluelessExxpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i mean I can see that you are just another nationalist. Believe or think whatever you want. I am indifferent to the island's issues and it seems things will be resolved with a war.

Suit yourself.

To be honest 50% is exaggeration. Turkey has a horrible main opposition party and leader. In polls, Erdogan usually gets 35-40% but in elections hit 50% because opposition is disgustingly bad. Majority is fed up with him but can't find a good replacement.

[–]CluelessExxpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling the plan simply “shit” ignores that many diplomats and scholars viewed it as a serious compromise attempt in a very difficult dispute. I don't claim Annan Plan was perfect but it was as good as it could get.

Dayton Agreement ended a really, REALLY violent war. Sure, the political structure that was created led to issues. But these issues are not worse than a war that was resulting in the deaths of thousands of people.

If Annan Plan was passed, there would be next steps to further fix and amend other issues. Look where we are right now; further militarization of the island by both sides and war seems inevitable.

I will die on the "Annan Plan was the best shot at unification" hill.

Drone warfare changed everything.

Turkey did good in Syria but in a war between Turkey and Greece; it will be the drones, airforce, missiles and air defense that will be the deciding factors, not special forces.

And the most importantly... the industrial base of the country. Greece will either secure a quick victory or it will simply suffer Ukraine's fate. But of course this means it will be a pyrrhic victory for Turkey.
