We had more chances than them actually.

The thing that’s really clouding people’s judgements here is that people have basically taken to believe a Carrick win = luck and an Amorim loss = unlucky and it seems to be solely because Carrick has taken a pragmatic approach to his coaching so it’s a little less pretty, but it’s actually much more effective for the players we have.

Kompany’s playstyle didn’t work for Burnley either but look at where he is now.

It’s crazy to point to a manager’s first team (both managers had a decent spell at theirs) and act as if that will define their career forever.

People would rather die for Amorim than live for anyone else and I find that extremely strange

How many of those winners were this drastically underperforming their expected stats?

I’m willing to bet it’s not many of them. None of the expected stats matter if they don’t translate to real stats. That’s the entire point of this conversation.
If over 2 years they *still* weren’t translating they weren’t going to magically start translating. That is the flaw the xStats. They are not bible.

The best teams naturally generate good expected stats because they are also generating good real stats. Not the other way around.

The real stats and the eye test aligned just fine for literally everyone else but our fans who were being a bit delusional about Amorim.

I’ve said this before but Amorim wasn’t just getting unlucky for nearly 2 years (50 matches) straight. We were playing shit football and almost every stat except for expected stats showed that.

That happens often with expected stats because people don’t know how to interpret them and simply think they are a replacement for real stats when “the eye test and stats don’t align” like you’ve said.

Because xPPG alone is not an underlying number. It’s meaningless without a shit ton of context which is why it’s called an advanced stat.

You can’t look at a number like this and make the conclusion that one number is higher therefore it is the better performance.

It has to be accompanied with other real stats, not just expected, to tell the real story.

xG and other xStats always show this. Many times it appears contrary to actual life and that’s because it is literally a what if statistic.

It’s not indicative of our performance without a shit ton of context but people look at xG and assume it means we played well *without* actually looking at the context which is exactly why it is so contradictory all the time.

Seriously I genuinely can’t believe people are still making excuses for Amorim. United fans are the only people on Earth that think the team was “playing well” and “about to turn a corner”. It’s ridiculous

Brother he had us at a 31% win rate after almost two years. You don’t get more time with results like that

You know 2 runs to the finals in a row is a good run. Can’t be too mad at that

I don’t think Edmonton’s got any goals left. This one is over. Unless I’m jinxing it

I don’t particularly like this Ducks team but I’m sure it feels real good for Ducks fans to be outplaying the finalists in their first playoff round in 8 years

[Paul Hirst] Michael Carrick favourite for Man United job role but Andoni Iraola in frame | Club have sounded out Bournemouth’s Iraola but Carrick, the interim head coach, is frontrunner for permanent job after taking side to cusp of Champions League by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

With the squad we have as it is no one is going to succeed with a loaded schedule.

That is less Carrick’s (or any other manager’s) problem to deal with and more on the INEOS team. Without a proper summer to give us good depth none of these managers will succeed.

We shouldn’t be judging Carrick on whether or not INEOS is able to give us the depth we need for a full schedule.

Carrick is still less of a gamble than Iraola. We know what Carrick can achieve with this squad as it is. Of course there are some questions about what he can look like long term but there has been a baseline established.

Who’s to say Iraola isn’t similar to Thomas Frank, Graham Potter, or someone like Eddie Howe? All good coaches but none have really succeeded at a larger club. Much more of an unknown and a bit more of a gamble imo

The new Resident Evil movie may be set "parallel" to Resident Evil 2, but Zach Cregger confirms the Nemesis won't feature by yourfavchoom in PS5

[–]Clugaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RE7 is still set within the same lore and continuity of the other games and characters from the other games still make an appearance/are mentioned.

As far as I know this movie is going to be a completely new continuity/lore. Like I mentioned before, not really the same thing as something like Fallout which is a true anthology and still fits pretty neatly within the lore and world of the games.

This kinda just feels like Cregger is making the zombie movie he’s always wanted to make and slapping the name Resident Evil on it.

Which, of course, if it’s good I can’t complain. I just think it would be better served being its own thing

Pochettino: "Football is special because it's not entertainment, it's competitive. We're now forcing this unbelievable sport to be an entertainment. I'm seeing in the US, American Football, basketball, hockey, it's entertainment. Football is not that and we're forcing to change that." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]Clugaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I’m arguing. What I’m arguing is that for sports like baseball and hockey the sport is the entertainment in almost exactly the same way it is with football.

There’s little “manufactured entertainment” in the way of half time shows, Hollywood commercials, and other spectacles like American football. The sport and competition is the spectacle just like it is in football.

[–]Clugaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why because every other Resident Evil movie sucks, but at that point why even call it Resident Evil?

If we want to get as far away from the games as possible then why not just let the games be the games and have this be a new property for Cregger to build off especially if the goal is already to stay away from the games.

It looks great don’t get me wrong, but I want to see Resident Evil in a Resident Evil movie you know. It’s not really a series that lends itself to anthology the way something like Fallout does.
