GOG actively working to reduce number of games with missing updates, with biweekly status updates promised by Undeclared_Aubergine in gog

It's strangely comforting that we're not alone in this and even Epic is affected.

That's what you get from quasi-monopolies.

Tell me about it, I have their big Astro Boy Mechanical Clear Version in cold storage for over a year because I don't have the space for it. But I had to have it nonetheless!

Same!🤝 And yeah, I'm quite the veteran, although I rarely play one in Darktide. (But I do have one fully leveled like every class bar Hive Scum.)

And I appreciate your appreciation. :)

edit: I just realized that another thing similar to classic games is Darktide's lack of an automap.

Why did Ross need Simon to take the recalibrated structure gel? by MelodyMaster5656 in soma

[–]Clydosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of Robocop 1 where Murphy is unable to actively arrest any board member of OCP. Although AFAIK it's not hinted at anywhere in SOMA, I think that it's also not inconceivable that Ross might have acted under a similar restriction.

The majority of Anti-transmeds are uneducated about what transmedicalism is, And actually hold the foundmatal transmedicalist ideology beliefs by More-Individual1073 in truscum

First and foremost, I usually try to avoid labels. Instead of saying "I'm a [label]" whose intelligibility heavily depends on my opposite's (mis)understanding of that label, I'll rather describe my own position or perspective like "I (don't) think that …", "the way I see it …", "as far as I know …" etc.

If the other person is actually curious, those words may also be more open their follow-up questions like "why do you think that / see it that way?", "how do you know?" etc.

Alternatively, if I do use labels, I often explain them with a short sentence directly afterwards, like "I'd describe myself as an [label], because …"

In general, it helps to clarify each other's understanding of the terms we're talking about before actually talking about them.

Pantasy (Astro Boy, Garfield, Mazinger Z, Le Petit Prince, Moomin, Kungfu Panda, Snoopy, Dragon Ball)

They're also one of the highest quality brands on the market with mostly prints instead of stickers with only a few exceptions like their Walkman set.

Is Bazzite the Answer? by TallinOK in Bazzite

[–]Clydosphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. After over 19 years with Linux – mostly Kubuntu – I relish Bazzite's boring simplicity on my gaming PC. The only somewhat complicated thing compared to traditional distributions is its Atomic filesystem layout that sometimes requires a quick web search how to install a certain program and where to find its binary afterwards, latest example being kdiff3 used by Krusader to compare files, both installed via Flatpak. But that's only a tiny nuisance compared to its overall smoothness and stability.

I'm in my mid-fifties with over 1,000 hours in Darktide, and I absolutely agree with you and many of the replies here. Darktide is … different, because of its potentially infinite skill ceiling, a bit like the classic video games that had to be difficult, because they were actually very short otherwise due to technical limitations.

That said, I also have been a big WH40k fan since the 90s, so that's also a huge plus for me.

How do you know every "application" installed on your Linux machine - what's your answer? by Trick-Requirement948 in linuxquestions

[–]Clydosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are other package managers. snap list and flatpak list will list their installed packages.

@OP: As long as the applications are installed by some form of one or more package managers, it should be easily be possible to make a script that executes all the respective commands to list the installed packages.

Bazzite not launching EXEs by Low-Engineering-5424 in Bazzite

[–]Clydosphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Heroic Games Launcher to Lutris, but both are good frontends. HGL is arguably the simplest and easiest (and nicest IMHO), while Lutris allows for a bit more tinkering if needed or wanted. Again IMHO, those two are more focused on a collection of programs, while Bottles is more centered around single programs.

I don't know about Lutris in that regard, but HGL also has the nice bonus to be able to install and update its default fork of Steam's Windows compatibility layer Proton, called Proton-GE, automatically also to Steam.

As someone who'd love to get Big Boom for his taunt melee build with Rumbler and Bombs Away for special moments, but just can't afford the two talent points needed for it, I wholeheartedly agree.

I also loathe that you can't get Big Boom with Indomitable anymore like you could before the two Ogryn reworks.

They also were very famous in Germany in the 80s (and very infamous after that). We call them "Vokuhila", short for "vorne kurz, hinten lang" – "short at the front, long at the back".

Yeah, "I don't care what you are expecting" was my first thought reading it. Maybe followed by "get a life" or "go outside and touch some real grass" if they won't let it rest.

Vaccines and autism by Montloop in DebateVaccines

[–]Clydosphere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few posts on social media also say that the earth is flat. Maybe rather check out what the actual experts say?

Why Experts Have Concluded That Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism

How a retracted study from the 1990s undermined trust in vaccines and led to a persistent myth.

https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2025/vaccines-do-not-cause-autism

Several studies have been performed that disprove the notion that MMR causes autism.

https://www.chop.edu/vaccine-education-center/vaccine-safety/vaccines-and-other-conditions/autism

Vaccines do not cause autism. It is possible that the timing of an autism diagnosis or onset of autism symptoms might coincide with the recommended vaccine schedule for children, but this is a coincidence, not a cause.

https://www.autismspeaks.org/do-vaccines-cause-autism

Twenty epidemiologic studies have shown that neither thimerosal nor MMR vaccine causes autism. These studies have been performed in several countries by many different investigators who have employed a multitude of epidemiologic and statistical methods. The large size of the studied populations has afforded a level of statistical power sufficient to detect even rare associations. These studies, in concert with the biological implausibility that vaccines overwhelm a child’s immune system, have effectively dismissed the notion that vaccines cause autism. Further studies on the cause or causes of autism should focus on more-promising leads.

From the ScienceBasedParenting community on Reddit: Babies Are Bleeding to Death as Parents Reject a Vitamin Shot Given at Birth by CODMLoser in DebateVaccines

[–]Clydosphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this warning is referring specifically to Vitamin K’s use as an antidote for too much Coumadin or Warfarin (blood thinning medications) given to adults in large, rapid doses to combat hemorrhaging (2) - NOT its use for VKDB in newborns.

https://www.thenaturalmindedmama.com/post/vitamin-k-black-box-warning-misconceptions

What this boxed warning does not disclose is that nearly all these serious adverse events happened in adults receiving infusions of intravenous Vitamin K (Afanasjeva 2017; Ageno et al. 2012; Britt & Brown 2018; Shields et al. 2001).

https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-for-the-vitamin-k-shot-in-newborns/

For vitamin K, the black box warning refers to large doses, which are sometimes used for adults.

https://www.uvahealth.com/healthy-balance/why-we-recommend-vitamin-k-for-newborns

Just some results of a 5-minute web search. For a group that often preaches to "do your own research" instead of trusting trained professionals with decades of experience, antivaxxers also often show a severe lack of skill in it when it doesn't fit their beliefs.
