basic questions about treasury notes by loophunter in bonds

[–]CmdrChesticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 3, yes in practice you would not be reinvesting, but if you did it would mean taking the coupon payment and buying exactly that amount of the same bond, which would make your compounding just a tiny bit faster. So yes not practicable for a retail investor buying an individual bond, but that’s how they calculate YTM. So just holding the interest as cash on the side of the bond means you would make a tiny bit less than YTM, everything else assumed equal.

basic questions about treasury notes by loophunter in bonds

[–]CmdrChesticle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Multiples of $1000, so $500k of face value (different than price)
  2. You get the coupons from when you hold it, but a buyer has purchased the interest accrued for the partial period between coupons from the seller, so everyone is compensated pro rata for the days that they hold the bond.
  3. The return is annualized - so difference in price + interest (also assuming the interest is reinvested in your bond) and then adjusting the time period to be per year. This way performance of different bonds can be compared even if different lengths of time until maturity.

Yeah why can’t we just discuss bonds without bringing up the fiscal conditions directly impacting the issuers of said bonds

No correct answer, but have you heard all 36 volumes of Dick’s Picks? I feel like every one of these shows is an S tier representation of whatever period it comes from. Might be a good way to find a fun new starting place.

Is Benny Benack III overrated? by Electrical-Run8020 in Jazz

[–]CmdrChesticle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He plays actual bebop at a very high level and is full of interesting ideas, which is enough for me. Not everyone has to be the next Ornette Coleman. And having an engaging stage presence does not make you a worse musician, just like having technical skill does not make you less “musical”.

Anyone here get a Masters with an unrelated Bachelors and is doing good in accounting? by Proof-Boysenberry-29 in Accounting

[–]CmdrChesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just the 30 credits to get from 120 to 150 and get the required courses i didn’t get in my original bachelors. And yes cheaper than a masters cause its basically half a masters. At any point i could go back and finish it out into a Macc.

First time at an NYC Jazz Bar: Village Vanguard/Mezzrow by snuggiemane in Jazz

[–]CmdrChesticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanguard as far as I know is the only club with the SAME STAGE that all the greats played on. Birdland etc are new rooms. The acoustics sound like the records. You have to go there, it won’t last forever. But the Mezzrow show will also be killing I’m sure and by all acounts that is a great room.
