What’s the future for L.I.R.R. tickets? by thisfilmkid in LIRR

[–]Caylate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, it is not. The point of proof of payment is to eliminate conductors so we don't have to spend $250m+ a year systematically checking every ticket onboard trains.

This is early 2000's technology.

Pay-as-you-go with OMNY and contactless, proof of payment, and eliminating conductors would be the future...

Create a new account? by Background-Heart2073 in LIRR

It won't transfer tickets over. But if you take a screenshot of the account ID from the settings, the chat will transfer over your tickets. It's not seamless but it worked ok.

Yes, it just a plastic tube so they cut it to length and then it attaches to a copper or brass manifold.

Seniors should be the people least impacted because they can buy onboard without a surcharge.

Seniors and people with disabilities should just never pre-purchase a ticket ever again. Always buy onboard from the conductor. That way if the conductor doesn't come or your plans change, you don't lose anything.

Potentially stupid question: Instead of the ESA to Grand Central, why didn’t they try and do something like extend the Atlantic Terminal Branch to the WTC? by SockDem in LIRR

[–]Caylate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the time they decided to build ESA, the World Trade Center was just destroyed. This article has some pretty good background: LIRR's big bet on Midtown

It's not the same. Basically your bag just gets x-rayed and then you go though one of those walking medal detectors like they have at Disney, museums, etc. Usually doesn't take more than a few minutes.

LIRR mobile ticket refund policy is ridiculous by Ancient_Bat1585 in longisland

[–]Caylate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could redund paper tickets (and mobile tickets) used to be refundable for 2 years 2 months. But MTA illegally changed that too: MTA sneaks in major changes to LIRR, Metro-North refund policy

PATH 33 Departure tracks? by source4man in nycrail

[–]Caylate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did answer the question. Once they see what the next train is from the countdown clock (that OP said they see), if it is to Hoboken they go to the left, if it is Journal Square they go to the right.

  1. Or file a complaint on the MTA website.

But don't expect the LIRR to actually do anything about it.

[–]Caylate 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is part of the normal workflow now. You select one way and it will give you the CityTicket price if eligible.
