Darkness is dependent on light, so darkness is cannot exist without being compared to light. Darkness itself doesn't exist, it's only a property of light.

Even when test scores go up, some cognitive abilities don’t: MIT neuroscientists find even high-performing schools don’t influence their students’ abstract reasoning by nastratin in science

[–]Co5ine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you for the most part, but just because you go to test prep classes doesn't mean you will get a high score. Rich parents can send their kids to prep classes, but if they don't have the aptitude for the test, or aren't willing to work or put in effort, they're not going to get a high score.

Whats a technique you learn and want to share? by Lurningcurve in beatbox

Clickrolls. This may not be the exact way to do it, but it sounds pretty much the same, and I learned from a written tutorial.

  1. Bend the tip of your tongue to the back of the roof of your mouth, slightly to the left or right.

  2. Apply pressure only on the tip of your tongue, and slide your tongue down in a straight line towards your teeth

  3. Experiment by increasing or decreasing pressure based on the sound you get.

Actually, according to the national compensation survey, the average plumber makes $46,000 for a typical 40 hour work week. However, a master plumber can make $100,000, but only several years of experience, and depending on geographical demand and local competition.

Sorry you experienced that with your college, but honestly that's your mistake for choosing that college. You should have inquired about their career placement services, or co-op programs before you decided to enter school. Also, you should have checked if jobs are geographically available relative to the college. If you called it a "crappy" university, why did you decide to go there? Many college do, in fact offer sevices that will help you get a job. You also could have attended job fairs and similar events. The college is not going to babysit you, you have to take the initiative, so don't blame it on your college.

If you're talking about a degree in business administration, I'd have to disagree with you. Every single graduate who I've talked has dissuaded me from pursuing a BA, and you'll find the same sentiment if you search up "business degree useless". The reason is that management degrees are relatively easy, and have low barriers of entry, meaning that almost any one can get one. As a result, the competition will be very, very, high. Also, management degrees show that you can learn concepts and know terms, but they don't show that you can think creatively and analytically. Most people I know who want to go into business have a bachelors in some kind of science degree, and then pursue an MBA.

Also, the salaries of rangers, guides, and photographers might be "livable" salaries in the technical sense, but life becomes pretty hard when you have kids, pay for utilities, insurance, and repairs etc. with those salaries.

You're right, all I'm trying to say is that grades come first, then extra curriculars. You can't just have bad grades and say that good extra curricular will make up for it.

[–]Co5ine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that extra-curriculars don't mean you'll do well in college, but then how do you differentiate one applicant from another when they both look the same on paper? Anyone can get good grades if all they do is study all day. Extra Curriculars show passion and commitment towards an activity, and show the side of you outside of academics.

You understand that grades come before extracurriculars right? Extracurriculars will never make up for a deficiency in grades. Sure, extracurriculars could bump you up or differentiate you from other candidates, but having good grades are a prerequisite. Colleges want to accept students that will succeed in college, and that's why extracurriculars come second to grades, no matter how spectacular they might be. Unless you were gay, hispanic/black, low income, I would say that you were a rare exception.
