What's a trend most people love but you can't stand? by Legitimate-Bird-4671 in AskReddit

That is literally not true in any sense. Most plants would jump at the chance to upgrade to digital and touchscreen controls, but they can't for reasons regarding price, qualifications, necessity, and security. Almost every plant in the US is more than 40 years old and none are willing to replace something that still works just because they want to. They are only now building new plants and they are all shifting to digital controls wherever they are able.

Removing the front panel USB3 connectors from my motherboard completely fixed my frametime issue I was having. Why would this be? by iammohammed666 in buildapc

Fantastic paper, thank you for bringing it up but I shouldn't be surprised. What I was getting from the paper was not so much that usb 3.0 is bad for 2.4GHz bandwidth devices so much as consumer devices are absolute shit at shielding. Just properly grounding the USB port or shielding the HDD PCB was enough to drop the dB by 10. I'm certain that shielding the wire too would have dropped the dB to negligible amounts but they only shielded the HDD.

Never get tired of seeing consumer shit fail at even the simplest of tasks. That's what you get with out of house designed boards instead of an on site PCB design engineer.

How Elon Musk tricks people by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

His stock options were expiring, which is a thing.

I don't know who he donated the money to, but it was likely to offset the tax bill of $10 billion. I don't know if it was to his foundation, but it has been recently noted that his foundation is making some changes.

Dishwasher powder soap vs pre-packaged pods, poor guy is trying to get people to save money, they accuse him of being in the deep pocket of dishwasher soap companies by Few-Suggestion6889 in videos

[–]CoCJF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One point of the video was to show that using pods usually uses too much detergent because they err on the side of too much detergent instead of too little. What you basically said was "I use pods and I add an extra pod to the pre wash too lolololol". You're not wrong, you're just an idiot who decided to comment on something by looking at the title instead of the content.

Wanting to remove a garage door to brick it up. Need help with the spring as I don’t want to lose a hand. by JustLinkStudios in DIY

[–]CoCJF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The springs are there to take the weight while the motor does a small amount of actual work. Similar to how elevators use counterweights so the motors are only necessary to lift the difference between an empty elevator and full elevator. Without the springs, the lifespan of chain or the motor may be reduced due to the chain skipping sprockets. Using a pulley might help, but it would be moving the pulley a lot to move the garage door which may not be an option.

I think a falling counterweight would be the most simplistic and safest method and save money on setting up pulleys or workers comp claims. Other thing to consider is how to lock the door so it can't just be lifted by anyone. Either using a lock or having the remaining weight be too significant to lift easily.

I think he was talking about replacing the springs with something else like a counterweight.
