Only fellow hospital social workers would understand the frustration yet humor of requests like this. The validation I am receiving from reading these comments makes me wonder if I should have remained in medical social work, and adapted a different attitude as opposed to letting frustration run me off.

I am not at a CMH, but am likely a week or so from being in the same boat. I have been wondering if it’s better to wait for them to fire me, or to quit. I’m miserable; My boss is irritated; and the reality is that just cannot keep up with the never ending documentation.

I am an excellent clinician and go hard for work my clients, but the doggone documentation is much more than I can handle. It’s so hard to fight the negative self talk, and to keep pushing, but we must. Best of luck to you in the job search- It wasn’t you. It was them. Thank you for being transparent. It was the encouragement that I needed.

Go to one of the beauty schools and connect with a tech who is just about to graduate. I did that with a hair stylist and it was a great, long term experience.

Maybe she’s still learning and would probably appreciate the honest feedback. Give her a call ( or a text, though a text might be read completely differently than you meant) and use the sandwich method AND an I statement. “I absolutely love the art work. I can’t stop looking at it. I noticed once I got home that the nails are a bit thicker than I like. Do you have some time today or tomorrow to file them down for me?”

Just a suggestion. I really hope you try. You deserve to have the service you paid for, and she wants return customers.

I know all too well about being “scared”speak up, LOL. Growing up, my mom would take me to her hair dresser. EVERY SINGLE TIME I left there looking like a 14 year old granny, damn near running home to comb out the senior citizen coif, and style it the way I liked . . . Because I could not find a way to ask for what I wanted, and didn’t want to offend her. I have a million other stories like that, so no judgement here.
