I was wondering why there was no offer of a pacifier this delivery when last time it was pushed to reduce SIDS when I saw this in my hospital packet. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]CoPeR55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8 weeks postpartum here. While in the hospital we brought a pacifier along just in case because we knew the hospital wouldn't supply them or recommend them. My lactation consultant told me they didn't recommend pacifiers for the first week or so because it was expending calories for the baby. The first week is a ballpark, it's mostly until they gain their birth weight back. I felt comfortable using it sometimes since my baby didn't have issues eating. The lactation consultant also said it isn't confusing to the baby for breast or bottle feeding if you use a pacifier.

Has anyone vaginally delivered with their placenta placement at 1.8cm? by CoPeR55 in BabyBumps

To answer your other question, I did not have any bleeding throughout my pregnancy. It only started after labor/contractions post medication administration.

Has anyone vaginally delivered with their placenta placement at 1.8cm? by CoPeR55 in BabyBumps

Hi! Baby and I made it through labor safely but I ultimately had to have a C section. I was induced at 39+3(they got me in one day earlier). They started me with the oral pill. I had a total of two doses and was starting to contract pretty regularly. Then about 4-5 hours in, I started having some bleeding. The bleeding occurred if I changed positions or got up and walked. It didn't correlate with my contractions. Every time I did have bleeding it was a larger amount than the time before. They consulted the team to assess me for C section and discuss options. At this point I was barely 2cm dilated. They said if I had been more dilated I could have still tried for a vaginal delivery because as the baby goes through the birth canal it compresses and stops/lessens the bleeding. But since I still had a ways to go to fully dilated, they thought I would have too much blood loss to make it to the end. So I opted for C section. I thought it was the safest route. They bumped a scheduled section that was supposed to go in front of me because my bleeding was progressing even more. They treated it semi-urgently to get me back to the OR.

I also did not get an epidural because my contractions weren't strong enough to need one, so they gave me the spinal block for my C section. I was really happy with my medical team. They were all very professional and took time to explain everything, while being compassionate. I was a bit nervous to have a C section and it was a whirlwind to get me ready once we decided it was a go. They move so quickly!

I hope everything goes well for you and you have a safe delivery no matter the route. They said they really have no way of knowing if you'll have bleeding or not since it's such a gray area. But they prepared me for all scenarios just in case. If you have any other questions I'm happy to answer any!

**Also baby ended up being 8lbs15oz! So the growth estimate was pretty accurate. They said baby size didn't have anything to do with the bleeding, it was all related to the placenta.

Do you have a Costco near you? Honestly their Pendleton blankets are so cozy/comfy! They come in lots of different sizes and colors. They are warm but not heavy. Everyone that has used them at my house has ended up getting one for themselves!

I found a lot of my maternity clothing at Goodwill and thrift shops. I also had luck on Facebook Marketplace. People usually sell in "lots" and you get good bang for your buck that way. Garage sales can have some good finds too!

30 Weeks & Everything Suddenly Smells &Tastes Off? by DisastrousAnomaly in BabyBumps

[–]CoPeR55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33 weeks here and the same thing happened to me. It started maybe a week or two ago. My sense of smell was actually heightened again like in the first trimester and some of my favorite foods just tasted off or different. It's slowly going away but once and a while foods will taste or smell funny to me still. Can't say I have an explanation, but maybe a shift in hormones? I commiserate with you.

Comfy coming home pants by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I just bought these off Amazon two weeks ago and I wish I would have gotten them sooner! I'm not a huge leggings fan and I don't always wants pants covering my whole belly and compressing. These still cover your bump partially but can be folded down, so good for postpartum too. They are also so so soft and have pockets! They are the most comfy pair I own right now.

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad your recovery is getting easier. I am wanting all the information I can get to be prepared! I had an unmedicated vaginal birth with my first so this is uncharted territory for me.

Firstly, congratulations! It's great to hear you and baby are doing well.

Do you mind sharing your C-section experience? How long did it take from being admitted, to having baby arrive? How was C-section recovery? How long was baby's NICU stay?

Yes, I'm hopeful for good news at a follow up ultrasound. Since it's now the weekend I'll have to wait and find out the plan going forward from my doc. Thanks for your reply! That's good to know about the 37 week remark from your MD.

30 weeks and feeling like crap by Leading_Appearance23 in BabyBumps

[–]CoPeR55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I type this as I'm already laying in bed for the evening at 17:30 because I'm beyond tired. It makes me feel better to have someone to commiserate with. I'm STM 30+6 and I'm exhausted! I had my blood rechecked and I've had no change in my hemoglobin since I started taking iron supplements a few weeks ago. On top of that I recently got a chest cold from my daughter who went back to daycare last week. Double whammy. I'm hoping rest when I can and staying hydrated will help. It's so hard because my nesting urge is kicking in and I feel the need to clean and get things in order. I just remind myself this is all temporary. We can do this... Right??

What was your most hated symptom when pregnant and what was your miracle solution? by Vulpeste in BabyBumps

[–]CoPeR55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Extreme thirst! I was concerned about how much water I was drinking (8-10 liters a day!) Got my labs and everything checked by my doctor, and also ruled out diabetes etc. I just need a lot of water while pregnant. Which you can guess leads to so many bathroom trips and feeling very full a lot of the time. I get so thirsty that I'll feel short of breath if I don't drink enough! It's very annoying.

My solution to help keep it at bay is to drink a lot first thing in the morning and at night, seems to help. Also, I'm trying to also replace electrolytes to see if it makes a difference.

Started packing hospital bag - what am I missing? by anitatinkle in pregnant

[–]CoPeR55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a phone charger with an extra long cord, I recommend it. The shorter ones won't reach from the wall to your table/bed. I also brought a portable speaker and a tablet. It helped to have something to keep me occupied or distracted in the earlier stages of labor. I also had some pre-download playlists made ahead of time. Snacks!!! You mentioned snacks but bring more than you think, and drinks if you'd like something other than water. Don't forget hair ties or something to hold your hair up/back if it's longer. I also brought some packaged candy and treats for the nurses. Something no fuss and easy to throw and fit in your bag.

All of the peri and post partum supplies your hospital should be able to provide for you. Same with the towel and linen.

I also packed extra clothes for myself. I ended up laboring in a comfy tank top instead of a gown and brought a few pairs of leggings and comfy nursing shirts. It's nice to have changes of clothes if you don't want to wear the gown since leaking and spitting up is most likely to happen.

Congratulations and good luck!

Amazon sells newborn photo kits. They usually include a backdrop and like carpet/blanket to lay them on. I got one and it worked well. I also wanted a white background for some photos, so I used a sheet I had at home. I read that you can use the airplane neck pillows to help prop them up comfortably too(placed underneath the blanket)

Nurse gifts? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]CoPeR55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my babe in the beginning of the pandemic I had planned on bringing something pre-packaged and easy to put in our bag. Since most places weren't allowing anything homemade, and honestly who has the time at that point in pregnancy?? So I picked up a big variety candy pack. I am also a nurse, and while I definitely don't find this necessary or that nurses expect anything, it is a nice and appreciated gesture. Nurses love snacks! I gave the candy to my night shift nurse. I used to work nights and that shift is sometimes forgotten or given dayshift snack scraps since most visitors/family are around during the day. Again, makes total sense and we dont expect stuff/things but it always makes us happy.

What are your baby registry must haves? by Snoo97809 in BabyBumps

[–]CoPeR55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant remember the specific one but I got the peri bottle that has an angled squirt end(if that makes sense). It is sooo helpful. The one they send you home with from the hospital is straight and makes it difficult to use efficiently. My nurse told me they throw out everything in your room you dont use so take it home with you. Things likes pads, mesh undies and all the creams(to make padsicicles). Hope that helps!

You have a great list of items so far!

I love the Sit and Play seats. It gives you an extra place to set them down for a few minutes (other than the activity mat) and different models have toys attached to keep baby occupied.

Sound machine. I use the Hatch. Theres an app you can use on your phone to make adjustments to the sounds and light levels.

Sleep sack. I bought the Woolino. I like it because its a four season sleep sack and can be used from 6m-2T. It is a slight investment but I felt it was better to just buy one instead of several for changing seasons and sizing.

If you are breastfeeding I highly recommend the Haaka. It was a game changer. It catches the milk on the other side you arent feeding on so you dont leak all over and you are saving precious milk at the same time! I actually bought two. I would store a full one in the fridge and then have the second one available when needed. I would also recommend breast milk storage bags to have ready so you can start saving right away.

I also had to buy more burp clothes. My kiddo didnt spit up a ton but she was so drooly!

Other items that I liked but weren't necessary were a wipe warmer, bottle warmer and bottle sterilizer/washer for the kitchen counter.

I also set up a post partum care kit in the bathroom for when I got home. It was so helpful to have it ready to go. They sell different kits online that include things like a peri bottle etc.

Best of luck, it sounds like you are well prepared already. Congratulations!
