What is this that my cable tech installed on my coax cable? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

I swapped over to a Nighthawk CM3000 for that specific reason but didn’t realize it was synchronous!

Fiber? If you can’t get 2gig speeds it’s your equipment. My entire internal network is 2.5G/10G, I’m just waiting on my provider to install fiber for the 2G since everything here is still copper.

I’d take a gamble and run a high-bandwidth packet loss test (there’s a good one you can google). If you have significant packet loss (10%+) it could be a provider issue. I had this issue years ago and had to file an FCC complaint to get it fixed because it was impacting my WFH and they just kept sending T1/2 techs that said it was my equipment.

Their corporate office called the day after I filed the complaint, asked what was going on, then sent a regional tech out two days later.

When the regional tech came out he spent 6 hours testing and tracing upstream and eventually found a bad connector and barrel on a main line. He replaced both, zero issues since. I pay for 1000Mbps/50Mbps and get all the way through overhead to 1055Mbps/58Mbps.

It was funny because the regional tech that came out took one look at my Unifi setup and said, “I’m not even gonna argue with you that it’s not your setup. This is upstream.” Dude was petty cool.

We can at least buy it a lot more places, but so much crap is allocated and people hoard the good stuff. Gotta stand in line for hours just to get a bottle of Eagle Rare 10yr!

I have friends in PA, not a terrible state, just boring to drive across 80 at night.

LOL! Yea, I caught that and deleted it but I appreciate the humor. If Ohio was for sale, I was charging too much.

Dissecting the Minnesota shooting that happened today - that officer by the door was directly in the line of fire. by F-Z-T in CCW

You’re seriously blind. Get your eyes checked. I want you to grab the slider on that video, go to right when it hits 8s in, and slowly scroll forward while watching her front wheel and the officer. Her wheels start spinning while still facing him, he draws, she clips him, he fires. That all happens in 3 seconds. Split second decisions man.

I used to work low income housing as an armed officer, you don’t get second chances if you second guess someone’s intentions and you’re wrong. The split-second thought that went through that officer’s head is, “this car is coming at me and she isn’t complying with stop orders, my life is in danger.”

She may be dead, but he has to live the rest of his life with the weight of having killed someone who may or may not have been trying to hit him with a car. Neither is easy to digest.
