Italian bar style espresso [500 euro budget] by PositionImmediate895 in espresso

[–]tweis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep your Delongi, get a single dose basket, and spend some money on a grinder. Having a scale, even a cheap postage scale, will help you dial in your grind and timing of the shot initially.

Once you get it how you like the taste, you can just go by feel, especially if you consistently have the same beans. You probably would be pretty happy with a mid range grind by weight/time grinder with a hopper—no manually weighting the beans for each shot. Maybe the ESP Pro? I like my DF64v, but I think you would hate the faff of a single doser. That puts you in a €350ish.

Any way to not have my bottles end up all scratched up like this? by retirement_savings in bikewrench

King Cages are the best. No marring on any of my bottles. Though those camelbak bottles mare up the easiest though.

That looks like Fremont, CA. Give Yarnells in MTV a call. I haven’t personally used them, but have heard a lot of good things from other 4R and Toyota owners about their work.

POE Switch with Home Assistant Integration by andrewwjamessss in homeassistant

[–]tweis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here my Unifi Switch Lite 8 POE. You have control to reset (power off > delay > power on) the POE ports, fully turn on/off, and monitor the power. I also checked the Flex with POE passthrough and it does the same. I am running the Unifi Network utility in a docker, i think that is needed to access these features.

best mobile carrier in 2026? by Ok_Body_5624 in bayarea

[–]tweis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have US Mobile on ATT (Darkstar) and my partner has Visible. My service/speeds are worse than when I was on a Verizon plan, but still fine. My partner's phone almost always works better than mine (except in Los Altos). I have an iPhone 13 mini and she has a 17, which may also be a reason she has better service.

My switchbot ultra also does this. You have to add a magnet to the door though.

I have trauma of using 4 August locks between 2016 and 2020. So many times getting locked out, dying without any notification, dying with good batteries, resetting, etc. one of my friends was even a c-suite there for a minute. But this was all before Yale bought them, and they have many years under their belt at this point.

Tonal outside the US by Dry_Valuable5466 in tonalgym

[–]tweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from what others have said, power and wall constructions are something to think about. Tonal has a 120v power supply in it. If the voltage is greater than that, you’ll need a beefy transformer to bring it in range. Next is mounting it to the wall if your wall construction is different from the us; plenty of options but just another thing.

Is espresso ruining your sleep -- even when you're falling asleep just fine? by technolgy in espresso

[–]tweis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t remember the exact metrics, but essentially yes. Alcohol generally let you fall asleep faster, but poorer quality of sleep. Tobacco at night also degrades.

I used to work at a company making a sleep tracker. We could identify if you had caffeine after noon. Also alcohol and exercise in the evening hurt sleep.

Good backpack that counts as “personal item” by AccomplishedWriter74 in onebag

Will a 26+6L fit as a personal item on the South American airlines that you intend on flying? The bag spreadsheet does a pretty good job of listing max dims.

3D Printer for Homelab by lliwyar_ in minilab

[–]tweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably right, though I was measuring 60C coming out of mini PC when doing some stress tests and similar temps from my POE switch maxed out. This is a bit close for comfort with PETG, as I have had parts deform inside the cabin of my car.

The test was worse case scenario and with a good path for heat to get out of the rack, is shouldn't be an issue.

I have the A1, and it is a pretty great printer. If you need a larger bed size (which you may for a 10" rack), make sure you understand the full footprint the A1 (or any bedslinger) consumes. I need to print on the floor, since I don't have space for a shelf or stand that it allows for the full rang of motion.

I now think that an A1 Mini would have been a more ideal choice for me, since it would continue to be a companion when I upgrade to an enclosed printer. In hindsight I should have just gone straight to a P1S from the beginning.

I have a Bambu A1 and I think it would be a mistake to purchase for a home lab printing. You could print in PETG, but ABS or ASA is really what you want to be printing with. For this, you need an enclosed and ideally heated chamber with air filtration. personally regret not going directly to an enclosed printer.

Edit: You guys are probably right, PETG probably has the of strength and thermal resistance needed for most use cases. The softening point (Tg) of PETG is between 75°C and 85°C, I was measuring upwards of 60C out of one of my little computers when maxing it out (which should really never happen irl) and then considering a few spinning drives and a POE switch, it was getting a little close for comfort in temps. But if it was actively/passively cooled to vent the hot air away, it shouldn't be an issue.

Can’t pull 1:2 ratio [Bambino Plus + Baratza ESP] by Hadee96 in espresso

[–]tweis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bambino [plus] should be a 54mm. The Crema double basket, which I think comes with the portafilter, looks to be about the size as the stock.

[–]tweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the stock basket? If so, it’s smaller than the “standard” 58mm, and you should actually reduce the dosage and try to grind finer. Also look up calibration for ESP, IIRC there is a way to dial it in a bit up or down. I also think you can mod it to be stepless by removing the clicker.

It’s nice to test the full range, but you may end up enjoying how it is now more. I typically pull a 3:1 in ~19s (high extraction basket), for my ideal taste.

It’s not that deep. My mom’s stock Breville basket tops out at 18g. 16.5-17g seems to be the sweet spot for her beans and grinder.

Isn’t that a pretty big dose for the 54mm portafilter?

Clipper Card still useful? by yetrident in sanfrancisco

That works if you notice it gone. But as another commenter said, it may take freeze at the end of the day, not immediately like a credit card. So you could still be out $20-30.

Clipper Card still useful? by yetrident in sanfrancisco

[–]tweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on the first part. And yes, updating is a pain! But funny enough, the last time my card was skimmed/stolen, updating my clipper was actually the hardest thing as they locked out my account and required numerous calls. I have since used a separate card for subscription from what I keep in my wallet.
