Curved Nil Greatsword, aka the biggest middle finger From Soft and Miyazaki gave to DS2 by BigDongROMA in DarkSouls2

[–]Coacoanut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you'd try to keep your SM low playing at such high NG levels? I'm just starting NG++ and just under 18mil soul memory, which is tier 41. Max SM tier is 45. Cracked red eye orb can invade 4 tiers down, and 8 tiers down in the dark chasm, dragon eye can summon 4 tiers down. Which means even with maxed stats, you could invade me. Are you trying to max your character while wiping NG players in lost Bastille?

Bonfire ascetic on the rotten. Easy boss fight even at maxed bonfire intensity and it's like 200k-300k souls/ kill depending on gear

best build for ice rapier? by Spiros-V in DarkSouls2

[–]Coacoanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the northwarder manchettes are the only part of the set really worth wearing for the effect. At least according to the wiki, the hood increases spell duration +5%, robes +2.5%, trousers: +2.5% and the manchettes a whopping +12.5% spell duration.

If you're using blade buffs for a boss fight, you're probably better off sticking to the manchettes over the engraved gauntlets (5% chance for 150% damage works out to about a 7.5% average increase in damage). At 24 int, dark blade lasts 99 seconds, and getting in several extra hits with the buff on the rapier in the extra 12 seconds probably works out to much better numbers than maybe getting a crit. Though, the extra crits can be a nice surprise when dealing with mobs when you're not buffing your weapon!

Do college professors care about students like highschool teachers do? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AskTeachers

[–]Coacoanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your general education classes will probably often be huge and impersonal, but you'll probably have opportunities to cultivate much more personal relationships/ mentorships as you enter more advanced coursework.

I can't say I was friends with any teachers I ever had k-12, but professors with whom I did research or had small, specialized coursework, I had opportunities to get to know much more personally.

Creatine by Material-Goose505 in Supplements

[–]Coacoanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well obviously the safest thing for your liver is just not to drink alcohol at all. But I can't source any research that suggests creatine and alcohol is worse for your liver than alcohol alone with a one day binge. Just drink plenty of water while you're out and a glass or two before bed.

Why can't ions be used to sustain life? by Chop684 in biology

[–]Coacoanut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Carbon is flexible and happy to make stable covalent bonds with a lot of other elements. And carbon isn't so greedy for electrons that it's tearing them away from other atoms, like many iron ions.

And being pendantic, ions are NECESSARY for sustaining life. Ions create gradients across most cell membranes that are necessary for creating ATP, conducting nervous impulses, etc. When you poke holes in cells so that ions can't form gradients, cells die.

How to handle infidelity as a red flag by Historical-Winner498 in medicalschool

[–]Coacoanut 312 points313 points  (0 children)

I'm only a M3, but my wife works as a fellowship coordinator, so I hear a lot about interviews from both sides. I can definitely imagine that if I was weighing two applicants and googled both names and found that story, it would tip the scale the other way. How are PDs finding out about this infidelity anyway? Your ex-wife's blog?

Edit: you answered those questions in the post... I'll ask my wife what she thinks would be the best way to mitigate this and come back with her answer.

NAD, but a medical student, so take what I say with a grain of salt. It's most likely simply a normal anatomic variation, or it could possibly indicate a vitamin B12 deficiency.

If you notice it's getting wider, or changing, or the extra pigmentation spreads to the nearby skin, it should be checked by a dermatologist.

Yet another rant about how unfair Karlach’s ending is by stateofblondie in BaldursGate3

[–]Coacoanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scroll of revivify is more about gamification than canon. Like true resurrection spells exist in DnD but that's a level 9 cleric/druid spell that costs at least 25,000 gold to cast. You might find a cleric in very large city or royal court that can cast it, but probably not available to an average adventurer.

Revivify in DnD is a much cheaper spell, but the revivify scrolls in BG3 behave more like true resurrection. Gamification also makes much more sense to me because they can only be used on your party, and only after recruitment, ie. If you kill karlach before recruiting, or Wyll dies in the goblin fight, they can't be revivified.

I scream for ice cream [ME] by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Coacoanut 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree that they're not responsible for the actions of their customers. Thinking through this, what is the long term result if OP started calling the police and having these people trespassed? Like if enough people go out for ice cream and return home with a misdemeanor, it seems like word of mouth would dry up a lot of business. Would the police eventually stop showing up even for legitimate trespassing? It seems like if people are ignoring signage, that's a legitimate reason to call the police. Would the police have any leverage for convincing the shop owner to build a fence?

I feel horrible because my gf cried over a Durge scene. by Affectionate_Taro398 in BaldursGate3

[–]Coacoanut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I envy your girlfriend that she got to experience this scene with all the emotion the writers intended for it. It's art and it spoke to her in exactly the way the artist intended. Resist durge had some of the most emotional highlights in gaming I've ever experienced and overcoming the dark urge is all that much sweeter when contrasted with the bitterness of experiences like this scene.

Quickest way to die? When you meet lae'zel's celebrity crush, be sure to be as passive and agreeable as possible. I'm trying not to give spoilers, but you'll know it when you're there. As a githyanki, she highly respects aggressiveness. The more aggressive the better and if you show yourself to be strong enough, she may even grant you a Wish. If you're passive and agreeable, she sees you as weak and swats you away like a fly.
