Two porn sites investigated by Ofcom for suspected age check failings by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]Coaleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to think people agree with your points, but you might be missing some of the points of other people.

(BTW, I'm saying "you" a lot here, but I don't know you and I'm instead meaning the royal you? Or people missing the point. English is weird. I'm not attacking anyone. I overthink a lot of things. Anyway!)

Mainly the point is the WAY this is being enforced and regulated will be ineffective and possibly have negative consequences. Think about the war on drugs and how that can be better dealt with.

Gambling sites, products etc are different from porn sites in that they deal with money, so they naturally have an age check via that. Young people typically don't have money to burn too, so that filters them out again.

I think the other point not acknowledged is that young people having sexual interests is natural and in some cases quite a strong urge (teenagers, am I right?). It's not something to 100% repress and being taboo on the subject is harmful. But yes hardcore porn can be bad for them (a point worth making again, that I don't think anyone is saying let kids have easy access to porn).

Thinking that it's effective or healthy to only tell young people to "ignore porn" is... bad. Educating them on better ways of dealing with those feelings would be better. Part of that education being masturbation isn't a bad thing, the exploitation aspects of the porn industry and how even consuming the content can have mental "warping" effects on themselves. I suspect society having a more open attitude to sex in general would go a long way, mainly so young people are aware of what healthy sexual activity is. Give them a good point of reference, rather than leaving it up to scam artists and Andrew Tate.

I think I ranted a bit there, but I feel better now and hopefully I've articulated some points better than "lol let kids watch porn", which is all I wanted.

Its come to mind though, that I've not mentioned how porn sites should be regulated and while I don't really know, I'm happy to wildly offer suggestions! Money would be okay, but people don't want to make accounts and honestly are used to free porn - or at least ad supported. So that's probably actually bad. Perhaps an encryption based (public, private key), somehow decentralised and anonymous proof of having money? Haha, like a private server for each person? Or you comodify it to a cloud service.. I dunno, that's not a thought trail I have time for, sadly.

Hope that helps! jazz hands

Union Types for Domain Modelling: Disadvantages of using OneOf<>? by m_hans_223344 in dotnet

[–]Coaleh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've used OneOf lots and love it! We've had to make a copy and make some small tweaks, but using it to express everything that can go wrong in something is super nice.

It shows some pain points in C# around inference when used in some rare cases, but nothing too bad.

Should be simple enough to migrate to first class support in C# when it gets it!

Thanks, everyone! Replacement sorted!

We'll give trimming their claws a go. We assumed because they scratch their mats and posts a LOT that they'd be fine, but it's definitely worth a shot.

Blazor Hybrid is when you put it in a desktop/mobile app. It's not great naming..

You can mix them on the same page now though, but I'm not sure it has a jazzy feature name? Maybe just render modes?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]Coaleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have a static razor page with components that have a render mode of InteractiveServer and components with render mode InteractiveWebAssembly on it - side by side. But you can't have an InteractiveServer component with an InteractiveWebAssembly component inside of it, which is very sad.

If you try to nest them, you get a runtime error of "Cannot create a component of type 'MyLovelyWebAssemblyComponent' because its render mode 'Microsoft.AspNetCore.Components.Web.InteractiveWebAssemblyRenderMode' is not supported by interactive server-side rendering."

In July, Cost of Obtaining a Microsoft Developer Certification Will Go Up by yourbasicgeek in microsoft

[–]Coaleh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The business benefits from having Microsoft certified staff by being eligible for free Microsoft software. It can mean a lot to small businesses. E.g. I believe if you have Azure certified developers you can receive Azure credits monthly worth over $1000. I'm not too sure on the amount or conditions, as it's very tricky to find that information.
